Sign the Beast LIX: Wes Welker is still a free agent

But Wes isn't Edelman, that's the premise of my argument.
yeah but by that logic we shouldn't sign anyone who isnt as good as Edelman. Ultimately I don't think it makes much sense on Wes' side and we probably want someone a bit younger and with a little more special teams value.

If we sign Welker there's a chance a very important pass gets tossed his way instead of Edelman's in the postseason, which then might be dropped.

I'd rather eliminate that chance by not signing him and making sure that pass gets thrown to Lafell or Edelman or Amendola or Gronk instead.

The Patriots wouldn't have been in the Super Bowl in 2011 without Welker. I wonder if Seattle hates Russell Wilson the way so many Patriot fans do Welker?

My crystal ball tells me that Welker ends up at least going to training camp for one of the AFC East teams that is not the Patriots. This will be the final coup d'etat for the AFC East's offseason of muscle flexing.

if Dobson can at least revert to rookie Dobson we'd be looking mighty fine. Can move Edelman inside when Dobson comes on the field. Chandler and or Gronk inside with him and that's a lot of ground to cover.

Not until Wilson walks in FA to a NFC rival that subsequently beats SEA in the NFCCG

I hope not. I hope he retires.

What do you think? Sign the beast?

I would love to have him, especially at the veteran minimum. But he has been replaced with younger players who've turned out to be just as effective. Welker signing with Denver was the best thing that could have happened to Julian Edelman.

Now that Wes has gone, it's a bit hard to imagine him back again.
NO.......

Wilson got them a ring.

While firing off at the mouth about his old coach.

Welker has already received his karmic payback while watching the Patriots get another one. He played his ass off for the Patriots and he will pay for it for the rest of his life IMO. He deserves better than the way many here treat him.

Had Samuel(or Meriweather) caught that pass he very well might have been a Patriot SB MVP. That's the difference between SB MVP and ringless. Crazy how sports work like that.

I think that we'd have already shown some interest in Welker had it really been something for Belichick to ponder.

I agree with those who have predicted a return to the AFC East, although I won't be losing sleep over it either.

Other than nostalgia, I don't really see how Weller fits this team. I'm kind of surprised he hasn't already signed with a team yet, maybe he is asking for more money than clubs are willing to give

My favourite non-Patriots player who became my favourite Patriots player, toughest little b*st*rd on the planet ...

Retire now, please!

Agree. I really enjoyed Welker's Patriots career a lot, loved the way he worked with TB, generally loved his approach on the field, don't harbor negative feelings towards him, think he's a shoe-in Pats HOF.

Nevertheless I hope he doesn't come back to New England, or any other team.

Putting all the blame on Welker for not getting one is moronic.
Which is why I didn't do that.
Comparing Welker to Wilson is also ridiculous, which is what you did.

I wasn't at all big on this idea...but because of all the injuries in the preseason, the idea of bringing back Wes has grown on me. He knows the playbook and could make an immediate impact. Of course, there's his health to worry about, so.......what do you guys think?
