OT: rumor that extra points are going to be from the 1 yard line

I don't like it. 2-pt conversions should be more of a late game gamble rather than being the long-term statistical preference.

Agree, I like the 7 and 3 scoring with the two pointer just to have a little extra shot near the end. Not sure why they keep messing with a good thing, the scoring system isn't broken so don't try to fix it.

Something really needs to be done to the extra point. Right now it's just a waste of time and added injury risk for a point that is basically guaranteed anyway. Either move it back to make it more difficult to kick, or move it forward to have more teams go for two. Or just remove the kick and give points 7 points for a TD, with the option for the team to choose the regular 6 points and then go for two. Because that's pretty much what we have now, but instead of saying that they want 7 they waste time and risk injury by kicking a ball to get the guaranteed point.

Probably not the best solution, but I like it as a placeholder. This is better than the current system.

I hate this crap - they always have to tweak crap that doesn't need to be tweaked and the big stuff (like BB's all plays are reviewable - GREAT IMO) gets shot down immediately. Its like they're determined the ruin this game.

I like your idea, give me 7 all the time and the choice to go for six + a 2 point try.

Does anyone remember the arcade game NFL blitz? After scoring a touchdown, you had an option of picking between a free point or going for the conversion from the 2. That's the way it should be in my eyes. Stop wasting time with the point after and make it a free point option. It already basically is, but there's the risk of injury and its flat out boring.

BB is actually on of the people who lead the charge to change extra points because it's a guaranteed play right now. Something it wasn't when it was first added to the game. Kickers have become much better, which has made the play less and less relevant, to where we are now where it's just a stupid play that is a fully guaranteed point but with injury risks. For example, see the guy in your signature. Either make the play relevant by making it more exciting, or remove it. I really can't see how this would ruin the game. It would either make the game more exciting, or shorten it a bit by removing those extra minuts for an extra point.

I guess I'm more thinking about the 2pt conversion being on the 1.. I don't really care about the kicks but I hate the idea of the 2PC being a "gimme"

I would rather they just keep the extra point rule as it is, but I prefer this change over pushing back the field goal. If they want to make the extra point more exciting, I would rather see more teams go for two points rather than making the extra point kick being a little tougher to make.

I think the issue showcases the fundamental difference between BB and other coaches. Problem that the xp is too automatic.

Scenario 1 let's make the xp harder so it is not automatic, make it a strategic decision and this will lead to more two pc. This is with the inherent belief that my team and my coaches will be able to handle it.

Scenario 2: let's make the 2 pc easier so the law of averages dictates many teams try 2 pc because it is more likely to work.

But my question is, if the point is higher entertainment, how does making the 2 pt conversion easier, more entertaining? So instead of the XP's being automatic, now the 2PC's are?

Making it "easier" makes it more enticing, more likely to be chosen as an alternative. It changes the math (the probabilities) so that going for 2 is more likely to be rewarded.

It's the flip side of moving the kick back a ways -- creep it in closer and it's more likely that some team will adopt a "go for 2 every time" strategy.

And a Patriots fan above all others (except perhaps the Seahawks) should understand that 1 yard from the goal line is not automatic.

I think just get rid of it ... make a TD 7 points so it's more than 2 FG's.

I totally understand that teams would more than likely go for 2 given this change, but I still don't agree that it increases entertainment value, JMO. I don't mind the idea of eliminating the XP, making TD's 7 with an option to go for 2, but only if the 2PC remains on the 2 yd line.

and yes, the Pick heard round the world does prove its not "automatic" but going for a 2 pt conversion from the 1 vs the 2 yd line is a huge change IMO.

Get rid of the extra point all together. Make TD's worth 7 and force every team to go for 2 after scoring a TD. Problem solved, plus it makes the game WAY more exciting knowing that every 2 point try could be the difference between winning the game and losing.
