Looks like Goodell might already be ducking for cover on EntrapmentGate

Bruce Allen over at BSMW hit on the key implication of what Goodell said...

Either Grigson lied, or Goodell lied, or the NFL front office is even more totally incompetent.

Think about it -- Grigson said on the record that he contacted the NFL over "concerns" about what NE was doing with balls.

How on earth could Goodell not be notified of that? That's not to say Goodell necessarily had to be aware of any sting (rogue or not), but when the GM of a team in the AFCCG accuses its opponent in the AFCCG of doctoring balls, how is Goodell not informed of that?? (Remember, Goodell told the Official League Mouthpiece and Shill that Goodell wasn't personally aware of any accusations until after the game.)

That is literally unbelievable.

Well, unless Grigson told Kensil or one of his underlings and Kensil didn't tell Goodell because he wanted to catch the Pats in the act. Kensil knew if he told Goodell that there was a chance that Goodell would have gone to the Pats and told them that there was an allegation against them and if they are doing it they better knock it off or face his wrath.

You mistook Goodell for Tags

That's covered by option (3) in my post ("NFL front office is even more totally incompetent").

I do beieve that whether it was a sting with Kensil orchestrating it. Goodell finding out after the fact but believing Kensil's accusations. Saying it will only take 2-3 days for a decision.

Then Kraft balked at the whole theory claiming a frame job and demanding Wells to do a thorough investigation independent of Goodell and Kensil. Could explain the "have not talked to Wells in several weeks.

Wells has recently notified Goodell and Kraft that the investigation is complete. Hense it is coming to a end.

Goodell stating He did not know ahead of time to protect his sorry ass if the proverbial hits the fan.

Looks like Goodell had a few mics in front of him during his interview with Peter King.

Count me among those who think Kensil kept it to himself because he knew league protocol was to inform a team if a charge is leveled against them. Kensil was hoping to screw the Patriots and it blew up in his face.

Awesome.

Excellent post. This wasn't some game between middling teams in late October. It was one of the three biggest games of the year for the league. If you were the commissioner, you would want to be notified of any concerns leading up to that game, especially if you were attending it.

Even if Goodell is telling the truth, his "ignorance is no excuse" quote is going to be tossed in his face again.

As TomE. Curren says, "We are getting a triple-decker sandwich of hypocrisy shoved down out throats.".

Well, we know they are incompetent. I know people think Goodell is out to get the Pats, but I don't think that is the case. I think that isn't the case, he is just a bad commissioner.

But I don't know if this was incompetence. If Kensil is out to get the Pats as people have intimated, he could have easily just kept the Grigson information to himself and set up the sting without anyone's knowledge. It was a poorly executed sting. So it looks like it could be done by one man. Otherwise, they would have had the refs record the PSI before the game and at halftime. And they certainly wouldn't have had a league employee who was stealing footballs on the field.

If this turns out to be a blame game between Goodell, Grigson, and Kensil, I will probably need to take some time off from work to thoroughly enjoy the schadenfreudentertainment, assuming people actually care.

Indy's first round draft pick is #29 right?

So those keeping track, this board has already awarded the Pats the #6, #29, and #32 picks in the first round. Wow! The Thursday night of the draft will be fun to be a Pats' fan, at least in our heads. :)
In the extremely unlikely event that the Pats ended up with all those picks, there would be plenty of armchair GMs screaming about BB's awful draft.

Well, why would they wait to after the draft to kill Belichick. I could see it now:

Mazz: "Mike, so the Pats now have the sixth, 29th, and 32nd pick in the draft."

Felger: "Oh, great I am sure Belichick will parlay those picks into four second rounders, eight third rounders, and twenty-two seventh round picks and all the Patriots toading will be crowing about what VALUE Belichick got."

Mazz: "I am so sick of the value picks, Mike. Just use the picks."

Felger: "You know we have a policy here of not killing someone before they actually do something, but you know the Pats are going to to turn all those first round picks into Darius Butlers, Aaron Dobsons, and Jake Bequettes. "

I would say you know it is coming, but you know the Pats are not getting either the Jets' or Colts' first round picks. So it won't.
