Looks like Goodell might already be ducking for cover on EntrapmentGate

One thing to remember is that every question King asked Goodell in that interview was screened and approved (and perhaps even suggested) by Goodell. It's seems obvious that he league will get some egg on it's face in this report, and there is likely a fall guy (probably Kensil).

How about if Kensil is the culprit?

You may not have a culpable team, but the league could give the Pats a compensation pick.

If the Pats are found to be the innocent victims here, there has to be compensation for the crap the team and the fans had to endure at a time when we had all earned the right to enjoy our accomplishments.

I think the other 31 teams would cry and say why are you giving them a competitive advantage against us for your incompetence. Vs the Colts forfeiting a pick for cheating and libel is different.

In a softball interview by Peter King, Goodell seems to be distancing himself from Kensil and/or whoever may have been the ones who might have set up a sting for the Pats:

This is a change from a strong denial of a sting operation from Dean Blandino before the Super Bowl. Goodell refuses to comment on a sting operation other than he personally was not a part of it. Sounds like duck and cover from him.

Two words: plausible deniability.

For compensation to be warranted, 1 of two things would have to be proven. The league and/or teams colluded against the Patriots in deflatgate or that any high-ranking members of the leagues office (Kensil) were executing an agenda against the Pats that went back to Spygate.

Even if Wells proves such things, I would be shocked if the NFL made public that part of the Wells report. Unless Kraft an BB personally have possession of any hard evidence, I sincerely doubt the there will be any compensation for the Pats.

If it's at the NFL level those parties will be fired but there will be no draft compensation IMO.

If this turns out to be a failed sting operation that Kensil orchestrated or was complicit in, Kraft needs to demand an independent examination of any adverse actions, taken against the Pats, that Kensil played any role in, up to and including CameraPlacementGate, and adjustments to the penalties where Kensil's anti-Pats bias and activism are concerned.
The Well's investigation may actually be an independent investigation requested by Kraft. In that context, the League leaks sorta make sense.

Not really huge news. Aren't pretty much all of these reports made public? Or atleast leaked in their full by someone.

yeah but the public gets a doctored report sometimes, and the question always remains if this one was doctored.

Not saying you should trust his version of the story as the truth, but I don't know what he would have to gain by affirming the possibility of a sting, and the fact that he hasn't spoken to the man investigating his offices (who would be responsible for that sting) for several weeks.
Goodell also doesn't strike me as being particularly bright. He's in over his head; he has no control over the NFL office; he can't handle controversies or the media; and he has a serious public relations problem after the Rice fiasco. My impression is he just felt overwhelmed by the situation and handed the matter off to a bunch of shysters who are taking advantage of the situation (billing hours). I imagine that this firm is advising Goodell that they can leave "no stone unturned" and that they need more time (billing hours). "Well Roger, we haven't found anything on the Patriots but we need more time to explore this whole sting thing and the selling balls thing." (billing hours)

if irsey, grigson, and kensil are involved in knowingly trying to destroy the reputation of another team i'm sure goodell would want sweep the whole thing under the rug or at lest delay releasing the findings. Imagine how badly damaged the reputation of the NFL and goodell would be.

What if the findings show that it goes all the way back to spygate?

I don't see how but I suppose you could give the Patriots an additional pick at the end of the first round making up for the stripped one in 08. There's no way the league would allow that type of conspiracy to come to light.

Would depend entirely on media reporting. If a huge scandal falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, does a huge scandal fall in the woods?

Not really.

The only way I think this happens is if BB an d Kraft get ahold of damning evidence. If it can be proven that high ranking NFL officials have been executing and anti-patriots agenda and were involved in the spygate investigation and punishment, it would probably go to outside arbitration. That is, unless Kraft and the NFL cut a deal where Kensil is portrayed as the rogue and the Pats are compensated for that lost pick.

Seemed like Goodell said the report would be made public at the same time as it would be made available to the NFL. Probably not true, though.

I wouldn't be shocked if they came out and said "we couldn't find any evidence on the Pats", but also said Kensil ran a sting. Many Pats fans appeased by Kensil taking a fall, Pats haters can continue hating by saying "well just because the sting failed doesn't mean the Pats weren't cheating." Nothing solved, but as far as the NFL is concerned, case closed.

I think the only thing that could bring compensation would if they found evidence the Colts screwed with the ball, other than that firing Kensil and an apology would be the best they could hope for.

I actually believe Goodell when he says that he wasn't aware of what was going on because there are photos of him at Kraft's house the night they won the AFC Championship and he wouldn't have been there if he was involved with setting them up. I think Grigson called Kensil and Kensil decided to try and catch the Patriots at something they weren't doing and it now up in his face. I think Wells was called in once Goodell knew the league office has been compromised and that explains why something that should have taken days has taken months.

If that happened I would need to seek out a doctor after 4 hours

There is no way we receive compensation. We were not harmed, and annoying fans, players, coaches, etc with accusations does not qualify as being competitively harmed.

A lesser disciplined team may well have been harmed by being distracted by the furor
