Sign the Beast LIX: Wes Welker is still a free agent

He has clearly lost a step. He may have a shot in a bad team or being an emergency replacement

Anyway, i'm actually hoping he retires, he has suffered enough blows to the head already
Yes, I don't want to be worried about him every time he catches the ball, ala Austin Collie.

I want to see the Pats sign Wes.... To an one day contract so he can retire a Patriot.

He probably has 20M in the bank. WHy risk your health for 1M a year pre tax? He should retire.

Wes is one hit away from...

Id take him at vet minimum. I don't think Wes would come back but BB doesn't seem to hold grudges. Law and Mankins trashed him and or Kraft and the organization and he never held it against them when trying to bring them back.

Julian Edelman is already better than welker and more clutch. Why would we want him?
If there was another Edelman to sign for the same price as Wes I'm sure we'd be all over it. This argument makes no sense.

If we sign Welker there's a chance a very important pass gets tossed his way instead of Edelman's in the postseason, which then might be dropped.

I'd rather eliminate that chance by not signing him and making sure that pass gets thrown to Lafell or Edelman or Amendola or Gronk instead.

Ding ding ding. He already dropped a Lombardi for our squad. Enough damage is already done. Cue the "it was a bad pass crowd."

There's only 53 spots on the roster. Cut an up and coming guy for a guy who's lost a step or three and has concussion issues? No chance.

He has Bills written all over, Rex loves him, Welker put up 1000+ yards with Cassell in 2008 so they have chemistry, I don't know why they still didn't sign, maybe they are waiting his stock drop even more to vet minimum or they have some intel that he is really experiencing issues from the concussions.

He should retire...he is one hit from eating apple sauce through a straw....

Wes should retire
I'd be fine if he signed a one day contract and retired a Patriot
It was a bad life decision to play for Peyton and get run into all those over the middle collisions

I am strongly against Wes playing as a Pat. First for his health but 2nd because his contributions would be a waste of a roster spot more productively spent developing a young receiver or giving him the opportunity to prove that they are not NFL material so the Pats could move onto the next guy.
Wasting roster space for sentimental reasons for a clearly past his prime player without a specific needed role to fill is another way how bad teams fail to improve.

i can't see anyone signing him.........nobody wants to be the one who watches over him as he is being dragged off the field with one eye partially knocked out of it's socket

Hopefully he stays a free agent and we can resign him mid season if Edelman gets hurt or something

But Wes isn't Edelman, that's the premise of my argument.
