One of my best friends for over a decade is gay and I have been to gay bars with him and had a great time
Did you dance?

Sam. I find it really hard to believe that the player of the year in the SEC cant find a team interested in his skills. I'm not saying anything, i'm just sayin. I am an Auburn University fan and watch a ton of SEC football, and Sam was a great player. I hope he gets a shot

There's just not a lot of demand for really small really slow hybrid DEs who run the 4o in 5:07. The fact that he was a standout in Pop Warner ball doesn't mean that he's good enough to play in the NFL. Tim Tebow won the Heisman when he played Pop Warner. The NFL is a completely different game.

as much as id love for the pats to sign Sam just so everyone would freak the fudge out, the kid just doesnt have the talent required to play in the nfl.

people saying that they hope he gets his shot, he had it, he couldn't make the field on a cowboys defense that at the start of the year was in shambles(and turned out to be okay)

I cannot believe that 32 teams would pass on Sam if he was an excellent football player. .

Believe it. He was a good college player. He doesn't have the physical ability to play at the NFL level. Maybe the CFL or another league might give him a shot.

If he had NFL-level ability and could help a team, he would be on an NFL roster.

Maybe I'm being naive to some kind of sub-cultural discrimination but I don't think his sexual orientation has anything to do with it. What may complicate his mission to be on an NFL roster is his appearance on Dancing With The Stars as it potentially creates a concern about where his focus is.

Someday people will be able to be who they are and bigots like you will be laughed at for your intolerance.
Explain to me what makes me sound like a bigot? Due tell

Also tell me the last time a nfl prospect did a 20/20 interview to talk about his sexual preference gay or straight? Are the 250* combine prospects all hiding who they are?

I actually did club cafe in boston I have been at least a half a dozen times. I went down to the carnival week in Ptown about 4-5 years ago it was a good time.

My older sister is also a lesbian and we are very close. But then there are people like Andy Johnson who will someday be laughing at my intolerance because I don't think Sam is a very good football player. I think it's BS that no matter what I say about Sam that doesn't sound positive is perceived as bigotry, love the stupidity of that cause Andy wants to preach treating all equal well that's exactly what I'm doing I'm treating Sam like any other NFL player taken in the 7th round and who didn't make a team, fact is if Sam was not gay he wouldn't garner a single word on this board ever..

Yes...why aren't we talking about Jeremy Gallon?

You know what Jeremy Gallon did he went and played for the Brooklyn Bolts, Jon Halapio who was a top 200 pick that we also cut went and played for the Boston Brawlers.. You know which semi pro football team Sam went to play for to improve his chances of making an NFL roster? Oh none.. Maybe that is why he isn't on a roster because he is doing dancing with the stars instead of doing what these other guys are doing to show teams what they have to offer.

Those people called me a bigot are another word that ends with "OT".

Michael Sam ran a 5.10 forty that puts him amongst this illustrious company:

View attachment 8969

Can we stop talking about him now please.

Darren Howard was a 2nd round pick, played 10 seasons in the NFL, and amassed 67 sacks.

Many of those guys had NFL careers, albeit unspectacular. Tim Jamison has been a rotational lineman for the Texans since he was drafted. Dave Ball had 7 sacks in 2010. Fred Wakefield had a bizarre career where he started as a defensive end, moved to offensive line, and then finished up as a tight end. Antwan Lake and Anthony Herron (now better known as a commentator) both played for 4 or 5 seasons.

If you put Sam on that list, he would be remarkable because he'd be one of the very few to have never suited up in a game.

If you like Michael Sam that's fine for you (no sarcasm there) but I have zero interest in him and the positive discrimination that gets him the airtime he doesn't deserve. I shall leave it at. that.

Jackson Jeffcoat won the Ted Hendricks award as the best DE in the nation and was a consensus all-american. Going into the 2014 draft, NFL Draft Scout saw him going as high as late 2nd, no lower than 5th round. He went undrafted. He spent time on the Redskins practice squad until finally being activated in mid December.

The guy voted as the best DE in the nation wasn't good enough to get drafted or see the field until the season was almost over. What happened to Sam after his college career isn't unprecedented.

This obviously doesn't prove teams didn't shy away from him because of the expected media frenzy. I've just had enough of the "look what he did in the SEC" argument used as proof he's being discriminated against. (Not that you did in your post, it just enticed me to bring this up)

Was gonna say I remember Darren Howard he was a pretty good player for several years for the Saints.

We are saying same thing : if he was any good, there is no way all the NFL teams would pass on him.

From the samples I have read ... not sure this veterans combine was worth the effort.
As for Mike Sam ... The CFL awaits you ........ or arena football. The numbers he put up in more than the 40 were worse than his combine numbers ... so at least that bolsters the 'gay is not the issue' to rest for teams not wanting him.

Here are the 40 times for the recent NFL Combine for DE's:
1/27 was above 5.06 and Sam ran a 5.07 and a 5.1
