I can forgive Peterson - IF he learns the errors of his ways - a lot easier than i can forgive Hardy. there are actually a lot of people who think it's proper to beat a child, for the child's sake.

They're wrong...stupendously, magnificently, idiotically wrong, but this can be a teaching moment.

Hardy is Hernandez waiting to happen.

All beside the point. Peterson is worth his contract to a team like, say, Buffalo or the Jets. he's not worth that kind of money to a team that has TFB, the GOAT. With Brady, short passing game > running game, and running game becomes a luxury.
Are you listening to Nelly right now?

I won't even jump into the child abuse discussion.

The Pats would not assume that contract (about $13 million) in his prime. If the Pats' personnel moves have shown anything since Corey Dillon (then with 4th highest RB salary), they do not spend high on running backs. Unless AP (now a year removed from the sport) can guarantee a Lombardi, the Pats are not in his future.

Would you forgive and applaud the move?

I personally would forgive and applaud the move, but I think you're making some very crazy assumptions in terms of what it would cost to acquire him, along with contract details.

First off: Adrian Peterson can still command a very high round draft pick. He's the best RB in the entire game. There's no way that MIN would accept anything less than a 1st/2nd round pick. As much as we see the majority overvaluing draft pick compensation ("Mallett could bring a 2nd rounder"--for example), you're doing the same thing on the opposite end of the spectrum. Now you're severely undervaluing, in my opinion.

Secondly: Peterson is currently under contract, where he has cap hits of 15.4, and 17.0 million dollars upcoming, so there's not much reason for him to want to restructure and take less money, and if he did under the right circumstance, it's not likely to be a "2/10" contract for 5 million dollars AAV. He can certainly get 8-10 million dollars a year in a worst case scenario, as we've seen lately with guys like LeSean McCoy etc.

Look what is happening in Dallas with the signing of Hardy. That distraction is not going away anytime soon. The closest we ever got to that was Hernandez and we cut ties immediately but still take a hit from it. Signings like these are for desparate teams. We are not in that category

Obviously not.

My point is pictures can be misleading...

You're blaming the media? If the captions were different we wouldn't be bothered because the injuries by themselves aren't that severe as stuff on Bestgore? Is that what you're saying?

You stipulated that AP caused these injuries. They are evidence of clear child abuse. Those pictures are what child abuse looks like. They're actual photos of child abuse. As you can see, even the less graphic abuse that we're allowed to see can look pretty bad.

What part of the story is not told by the pictures? Peterson caused those injuries to a FOUR YEAR OLD. And he meant to. And he doesn't see anything wrong with it, at least publicly. Why is it relevant that other unintentional, unrelated injuries are more severe or could look more disturbing?

And as far as being redeemable, do you see any sign from Peterson of any intention of modifying his behavior? To me he just keeps doubling down on the idea that he did nothing wrong. So I see no reason to explain why he wouldn't whip his child again. Does that sound like a good candidate for redemption right now?

I was going to go Oswlek style and hope you were joking, but I am honestly puzzled as to your thinking here.

1) Only good players get a shot at redemption. :)
2) Is he good enough to hold my nose and root for him? Well charges were dropped. In Texas, but that was were he was charged. He is good. (/understatement) Arguably better than Dillon. Supposedly nicer if you are not a toddler in his care.

I doubt he comes here so I'll never have to answer #2. There will be a bidding war and we don't do bidding wars. Of course, whenever you say with certainty there is something we never do ...

Comparing Adrian Peterson to ISIS?

Okay, let's go to extremes to make our point. ISIS aside, do moderate Muslims in the Arab world have a right to be critical of Americans, who raise their sons to be complete ingrates, and their daughters to be night clubbing groupies who sleep with 30 different people before marriage, in a society of youth culture that promotes drug abuse and gives them easily accessible hardcore pornography at whatever age they learn how to use a computer?

Do they have any right to be critical of a society that holds up mindless, sex-tape releasing celebrities as role models? Do they have the right to be critical of a people who have daughters looking up to people like Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian at the age of seven?

`I mean, it seems pretty bad. But then again, we are from another culture. So maybe it's all ok after all. Right?`

Cultural criticisms cut both ways.

Everybody wants to be as judgmental of others as possible, and nobody wants to look in the mirror.

Adrian Peterson was found guilty of a misdemeanor. He made a parental mistake in his own home, but he isn't freaking ISIS, and he isn't freaking Satan.

1. ISIS and I agree about a very few things, but being critical of Miley Cyrus, the Kardashians, etc is one of them.

2. Do you think kids in the Islamic world don't look at porn? Because they do. The difference is in the western world they don't get stoned to death if they are girls or if the porn is of the gay variety. Same thing with your example of "night clubbing groupies". Here they may get "slut shamed" but in Saudi Arabia they'd get executed. Or, if they were very lucky maybe only 200 lashes.

The things you are citing as problems with western culture aren't ideal things to be sure. But they happen everywhere. Just in some places they are totally underground because the people doing them would face life threatening consequences if they were caught instead of spending a night in jail or having to pay a fine or maybe no penalty at all.

So anyway, I think anyone is perfectly able to criticize any aspect of any culture they want to. That's exactly the point I originally made. I was never the one defending reprehensible **** because "they have different life experiences".

I can forgive Peterson - IF he learns the errors of his ways - a lot easier than i can forgive Hardy. there are actually a lot of people who think it's proper to beat a child, for the child's sake.
A grown women can walk out a door, drive a car, use a cell phone to call for help or even fight back.

A defenseless 40 lb 4 year old child has none of these options.

Sorry to the ladies, but it's not even close. Child abuse is worse than domestic abuse.

You're blaming the media? If the captions were different we wouldn't be bothered because the injuries by themselves aren't that severe as stuff on Bestgore? Is that what you're saying?

I'm articulate enough and precise enough in my points that if you need me to reiterate it's because of a reading comprehension problem.
You stipulated that AP caused these injuries. They are evidence of clear child abuse.

No, it isn't.

Those pictures are what child abuse looks like.

Not necessarily.

They're actual photos of child abuse.

According to Texas state law, they were actual photos of reckless assault, not child abuse. We have something here called a justice system, and in that justice system your emotional ramblings don't dictate what is and what isn't.

As you can see, even the less graphic abuse that we're allowed to see can look pretty bad.

They're switch marks on the leg. Using a switch during corporal punishment is legal in Texas and in many other states.

What part of the story is not told by the pictures?

If the complete story is told by the photograph, then please tell me the full story. Oh, right, you can't, because you weren't there. How forgetful of me.

Peterson caused those injuries to a FOUR YEAR OLD.

We know.

And he meant to.

According to his own text messages, he didn't mean to.

And he doesn't see anything wrong with it, at least publicly.

Adrian Peterson doesn't owe you any ****ing apology. Who the **** are you? You're ****ing nobody.
Get over yourself. In no justice system does a judge sentence someone to apologize to who-the-hell-cares from a football message board.

Have you ever done anything in life that violated a law? A ten commandment? Something a neighbor might think is wrong? You owe me an apology for it.

And as far as being redeemable, do you see any sign from Peterson of any intention of modifying his behavior?

Can you direct me to the website that keeps him under surveillance via webcam in his own house so I can judge his behavior since pleading guilty to reckless assault? Oh, no such website exists? Then sign me up for a how-the-hell-should-I-know.

To me he just keeps doubling down on the idea that he did nothing wrong.

He doubled down on his belief that physically disciplining his child isn't wrong.

So I see no reason to explain why he wouldn't whip his child again.

Which is legal in the state of Texas and elsewhere.

Does that sound like a good candidate for redemption right now?

Apparently he needs to come apologize to you first.

I'm really tired of this apology nonsense in this country. Have an opinion that isn't politically correct or ruling-class approved? You need to apologize. Make a mistake? Break a law?

You need to apologize.

Adrian Peterson isn't a Senator. He doesn't represent you. He doesn't know you and you don't know him off the football field.

He doesn't need to apologize to you. He went to court, he was given his punishment.

I don't get what this fascination is with making people do the apology walk-of-shame before the entire country but it's stupid.

How about we strip all his clothes off, put him in a pillory, and make him walk through all our towns while we bean him in the face with rocks and lettuce? Would that satisfy the mob?

None of you are a supreme moral authority that Adrian Peterson owes something to.

I understand that people are adamantly against corporal punishment around these parts, but this need for a public apology is ****ing laughable.

Some people seriously need to get over themselves.

I would love to see AP on the Patriots Gronk, Chandler, AP and Edelman at the Goal line deadly.

Madden/Fantasy dream world. Thanks for starting this debacle.

Prediction: Adrian Peterson will NEVER be a NE Patriot.

Thank you.

Again, that just isn't true. According to Texas law, they were pictures of felony injury to a child, pled DOWN to reckless assault. You keep pretending he wasn't charged with a felony, but he was.

Sorry to the ladies, but it's not even close. Child abuse is worse than domestic abuse.

Nobody hates the thought of what he did more than I do. I have three grown children - never laid a hand on any of them, period. Don't believe in it, period.

But if you think most of America agrees with me, you're wrong. And the only way to change that is to use teachable moments to move things forward. By everything I heard, AP was passing it down, just like his own father did to him, and with the thought that he was somehow doing his son a favor. Spare the rod, spoil the child is not some quaint remnant of history past; it's our culture, still.

How about we strip all his clothes off, put him in a pillory, and make him walk through all our towns while we bean him in the face with rocks and lettuce? Would that satisfy the mob?

Actually, that's exactly what he ****in deserves.

Fu(k human decency, he can run the rock. Whip those defenseless little 40lb 4 year old bastards in the scrotum 'til they bleed all you want. They had it comin'. That's our "culture".

I just asked a simple question if he would restructure if the value to aquire him was reasonable.
If we had a desire to give Brady the top RB if we believed he would fit with the team.
Honestly last year was we would never get Revis.
Before that Aquib Talib Is a thug.
Before that we will never have Randy Moss.
Before that Corey Dillon isn't Patriot material.
We will never draft a runningback In the first round list goes on and on.
Just saying we have the cap room he wants out.
He is also a hall of fame talent and I recall this board saying we will pay for that kind of talent.

These are all valid points kid, but you're missing the elephant in the room attatchment that comes with him.

It simply can't be ignored. This isn't a Corey Dillon type he feels unnapreciated by his current team scenario. This is a firestorm of controversey that dies if it's in Jacksonville but leads the nightly news if it's in Boston. It would be an unnavoidable topic then.
