I'd argue that Dan Snyder, who still prints money hand over foot, is doing just fine. Even if his team is terrible and he's objectively a horrible human being.

I guess you can say about Kraft that he has managed to not screw up having Brady and Belichick for 15 years, which is something.

So you think he just 'lucked' into Belichick? You make it sound like Belichick simply fell into his lap.

Tell me how hotly contested a commodity Bill Belichick was in the winter of 2000? Did kraft make most observers think he was bat$**** crazy for actually giving up a #1 draft choice to the Jets for the right to hire a previoulsy failed HC whom some writers looked upon a "duplicitous pond scum".

There are books you can read about it.

I find it interesting that most people ignore the biggest business miracle that Bob Kraft pulled off, and it's not this 15 year run with the Pats. He turned that "outdoor mall" in the middle of no where into a thriving and productive business center. Now THAT was a miracle.

I'm no longer someone who "goes out" much, but whenever I'm coming down Rte 1, its hard not to notice that "Patriot Place" is jumping.

I'd be interested to see what the failure rate is there, and compare it to other similar shopping/commercial areas. The most surprising stat that I ever heard coming out of Patriot Place, was the 80+% occupancy rate for the Hotel there....and that's NOT a cheap hotel. And I'm told its close to 100% from August to January.

Bob Kraft turned a bad college stadium that he was left with from the Sullivan debacle, in a backwater of a town, and turned it into a "go to" destination year round. And after he paid back the state for the road improvements on Rt 1, it hasn't cost the tax payers a nickel. In fact between the sales tax revenues, stat income tax revenues, and job opportunities he created, the tax payers are MILLIONS ahead.

I hear what you're saying, but they never would have done it if it weren't within 30 miles of two major cities. I know it may seem like the middle of nowhere, but there are millions in suburbia within a 30 minute drive of the place. I haven't been to the Wrentham outlets in years, but they used to be packed every day.

It's going to be a massive pass rush team to make up for the secondary, I predict.

They'll sign Mayo and unleash Collins and Hightower and add Easley and the new DE guy,

That should be one helluva pass rush. Seriously, on paper that looks like the Giants of the 2007 and 2011 championships.

Mayo, Collins, Hightower, Easely, Sheard and Chandler Jones are 6 top guys who can get after it.

BB/Patricia change their D's depending on the personnel they have.

Methinks we will see an aggressive/attacking front 7 this year the likes of which we have never seen.

And they will NEED that, given the very average secondary.

Do you people understand what a salary cap is? Are you saying he is cheap because he doesn't take up massive parts of the cap with flashy free agents? What is 1 high priced free agent signing that has worked out for an NFL team, Manning I suppose but apart from him who?

Basically, what the fantasy football kids are saying is that the owner/fo should pay three or four guys at the top and expect the other 49 to be good enough to win.

Then they go back to their comic books.

No offense to the good people of Foxboro, but Patriot Place is an oasis in a freaking desert.

Take a drive up and down Route 1 more than a mile away from it on either direction and tell me whether it is distinguishable from anyplace in Alabama. Great place to find some used hubcaps though.

Kraft produced water from a stone there.

There are more Waffle Houses and churches in Alabama but smaller ones.:p

Yeahhhhhh here's what I remember from the time, Gumby:

He had one decent year... rocketing from 6 wins to 7 wins was not impressive. Call me a casual fan. Maybe you have a better secret decoder ring, or maybe you were following the Browns more closely than me at the time, I dunno. And "despite all that he got 5 wins"... I really didn't understand this as a clear indication of the value of the HC.

Look at the records your posted. That's what I saw. That's what made me scratch my head. I'm feeling pretty justified that I was baffled at the time... all I saw was that BB had some high points with the Gintz and showed some possible promise, bringing Cleveland along to that one playoff year... but certainly it wasn't the kind of performance that made me thing "OMG I don't care what we do to get him just get him."

That's why I'm glad Kraft is Kraft and I'm just lil' ol' me.
You might also remember his team kicking the crap out of the Parcells led Pats in the playoffs.

If it wasn't Brady it would've been someone else. Maybe not quite as stellar, but could even have been Matt Cassell. They would've gotten the best talent available, as always.
Kraft built a successful business model and stuck with it, but don't kid yourself. BB was a great hire and worth the first round pick obviously, but without Brady it wouldn't have been even close to as successful. Matt Cassell? Seriously? Do you think there's a "greatest quarterback of all time" tree somewhere?

I think he would have found a QB he could win with, one way or another. It wouldn't have been Brady and the results wouldn't have been as spectacular, but he would have found someone that he could build a consistently winning program with.

That's why BB's so good at player acquisition. Not drafting, not FA, but any means possible to acquire or keep affordable players when the rest of the league is bidding up mediocrities, or guaranteeing a sprained ankle will cost them millions (Jets). BB's got a shopping list, but he'll change the menu if something's on sale.

He'll score at CB and DL too, there's lots of time.

I don't dispute that, but the fact that the Patriots are worth as much as they are now can be directly attributed to the success that TB12 has brought. As Pats fans we have become spoiled and feel entitled to win the Superbowl every year. People forget how frigging tough it is to get there once let alone win one.

"we just drafted Chris Canty!!!!"

which led to thousands of "Why Can't He?" signs at every game...

yeah, Ron Meyer would have given Revis 150 million and half the bawkmeisters on this board would line up for mashed pertaters and gravy...

I just hope that Patriots fans are appreciating the fact that we have the NFL's best owner, best coach and best quarterback.

What a far cry from the Victor Kiam **** MacPherson days
...and in a decade, the Celtics and Bruins win a championship, the Red Sox win two.

Or the Redskins front office...

.

I've posted this before but I'm a geezer and can't help myself.
Was at Smithfield after Canty was drafted. You could get right up just about next to the players on the sideline at times. I was 5' 9" + 185. I was bigger than chicken legged Canty. Worse yet he was standing next to Law. You cannot believe how ripped & muscular 5' 11" + Ty was. The contrast was incredible. How a team that drafted Law could draft that moronic midget, I'll never know.
