Indy TE Dwayne Allen: New Colts "possible Dream Team"

"Dream Team" is funny, however, Indy the 2014 playoff team appears to have gotten better.
"Gore is done" is a statement not based on most recent facts. IMHO Gore clearly improves their anemic running game. I'd be surprised if he doesn't gain 1000+ yards. They also added Andre Johnson who caught 85 passes last year from inferior QBs/offense. Him next to TY Hilton is a formidable duo.
IMHO this is Luck's 'final step up' year. With these weapons he will put up his best numbers or he never will (and he ultimately is a very good QB who is not going to be elite).

With that said, Indy falling flat on their face is, hopefully, in the cards along with Grigson the punk also becoming Grigson the unemployed.

Indy has a passing OL. Gore was behind a power run OL. We will certainly find out if Gore still has it.

None of us have crystal balls, so we have no way of knowing who will be good and who won't, but the suggestion that his production last year was "trash, old, slow, and fat" is certainly worth debating--which is what I was doing.

Considering the fact that Indy had no rushing game whatsoever in 2014, I'm guessing that pretty much anyone will improve upon last year's production.

For some reason media had been building the colts up even before free agency

I suppose that I can understand the media's infatuation with the Colts as the "next big team," considering that Luck is the top, young, up & coming QB in the game, and that they made it to the AFCCG last season.

Any talk of some kind of "dream team" is silly, though. They may be improved, but they still have a long path to go.

I posted this on another thread but thought it would be relevant here:

I find that yards per target is a useful stat, and I have used to to project the steep decline of other players, such as Wes Welker, last year, by just using this and showing his decline despite many objections from this board. This shows just how fast some of these guys are declining, although it's hard to tell because they often keep the same "volume" numbers by getting more targets in order to seemingly keep their production up. There is always context and no single stat that shows everything, but I equate this one to passer rating for a QB; there is a very high correlation between this number and the players level of production/accolades.

Andre Johnson, Yards Per Target

2008: 170 targets, 1575 yards, YPT: 9.26
2009: 170 targets, 1569 yards, TPT: 9.23
(injury in 2010)
2011: 138 targets, 1216 yards, YPT: 8.81
2012: 164 targets, 1598 yards, YPT: 9.74
2013 181 targets, 1407 yards. YPT: 7.77
2014: 147 targets, 936 yards, YPT: 6.37

Look at the huge dropoff from his 2012 season to his 2013 season when he turned 32, and then from his 2013 season to his 2014 season when he turned 33. He isn't coming back. In 2013, by the way, he played with Schaub, who took a lot of the blame, but you have to wonder if Johnson was also a big reason for the struggling offense. That's the thing to realize: his gigantic descent was actually in 2013, but it went unnoticed because he had a career high 181 targets and was among the league leaders in yards, though he was actually regressing heavily.

In case there was any doubt about QBs, schemes, coaching, etc., look below at DeAndre Hopkins numbers last year with the same QB in the same system. Actually almost as good as any of AJ's career years. Johnson is cooked. He may blame the scheme but Hopkins actually had LESS opportunities but almost 300 more yards; AJ was still the go to guy but his play has declined steeply. Even with the worst "off-year" a YPT of 6.37 is so low it can only account for the player himself taking a huge step down. Decent receivers with crappy QBs are usually over 7.0.

2014 DeAndre Hopkins: 127 targets, 1210 yards, YPT: 9.53
2014 Andre Johnson: 147 targets, 936 yards, YPT: 6.37

Even in his rookie year, Hopkins was already outperforming Johnson and didn't seem to be so hindered by Matt Schaub as Johnson was.

2013 DeAndre Hopkins: 93 targets, 802 yards, YPT: 8.62
2013 Andre Johnson: 181 targets, 1407 yards. YPT: 7.77

I'm not saying Johnson is going to get cut in training camp this season, but for that contract, this is absolute insanity. Grigson is a complete dolt who believes you use free agency to upgrade with players who are in a career death spiral. I bet Johnson has a slight surge but nothing near his prime, and I'll be surprised if he's anything more than a 700 yard guy this year and a likely bench warmer next year, if he isn't cut.

They just don't get it. Spending all their money on Offense while still not being able to stop the run to make use of a good offense.

No experience at wr. Things need to open up for ty and andre gives them that temporary opportunity. The wr have learned from reggie now they can learn with andre.

youre thinking narrowminded. Veterans bring their experience to the young players and can help the team in the long term. Most teams refuse to do that.

Worst free agency of any team in the NFL. Cole, Johnson, and Gore are all done. Done.

Ryan Grigson will be fired next year.

Oh yea because 936 yards with a mediocre qb at the age of 33 is done. You are done! Everyone needs to stop being so jealous.

lol...this is too much. Enjoy the amazing production you get out of those three "stars". They must still be awesome because they are household names and just got big money contracts, right? Because we know Ryan Grigson has brought in awesome other players in the past and isn't just riding the coattails of a draft pick he got by intentionally losing games. Unbelievable what a sad franchise of buffoons the Colts are. They get two #1 franchise QBs for being so terrible, and that's the only reason they are able to contend. Pathetic.

Brady-Luck "rivalry"

59-24 Patriots
43-22 Patriots
42-20 Patriots
45-7 Patriots

Yes, you are right. I am so envious right now; the jealousy consumes me. I just can't handle watching the Colts and their incredible team year after year while I am stuck rooting for the defending World Champion New England Patriots.

Go away now, loser. Come back when the Colts come within three touchdowns of the Patriots, and then you can talk about how you aren't as bad as you used to be because of Frank Gore.

You need to bulk up on a Defense. Yours flat out sucks. Can't stop the run. We don't think narrow minded in. NE. We have seen BB show the blueprint for success year in and out. I would have spent the money on your defense in FA and tinkered with your Offense. Your team is made to put people in seats not win Championships

It amazes me that this team still hasn't even tried to improve their o-line. Can't have a dream team if your qb is getting hit so often he can't remember his own name
