Screw You Manish Mehta!

Based on Goodell's history, the Pats are in line to get a Jets' draft pick for tampering. That is almost a given. Depending what the investigators found on March 8th or any time while Revis was under contract with the Pats of contact with Revis (if they found any), that draft pick could be a low mid rounder up to the #6 overall. To get the first, there would need to be hard evidence of the Jets contacting Revis before he became a free agent.

The hard evidence is telling Mehta what the jets offer is so that he may publish it and get it out there.
You can't talk to a media person about a player on another team regarding you wanting him to play for you.

I still say that Kraft needs to tell Roger that if the Jets do not incur a HEAVY penalty that in the future as Brady retires the Patriots will simply publicly pre-announce their willingness to sign Luck or whatever superstar QB is up for FA that year and will gladly pay the same limp ****ed penalty assessed on the Jets.

How about something completely outside the box? When Dallas and Washington dumped salary they got hit with salary cap restrictions. What about if a team tampers and doesn't sign the player draft pick swaps and forfeiture, if they sign the player swap, forfeiture and the player counts as double against their cap.

I can't help thinking that somehow, the Jets punishment will be minimized and deflategate will be maximized so that the punishments cancel out (at best). That way the Jets will escape most of the negative attention and their fans will be happy to accept it.

Without clear cut proof of wrongdoing, there is so much malfeasance and ineptitude on the part of the league that they cannot punish the Patriots without looking like complete frauds and hypocrites. They let the Vikings and Dolphins off with a warning for heating the balls on the sidelines, which is also a violation of the rules.

I've read Mehta over the years and I must say this is very much out of character for him.

he is usually a very straight down the middle - Reiss type of reporter.

I'm guessing this out of character outburst against the Patriots is because he feels he may be seen as someone who screwed the Jets big time here.

From your lips to the Omissioner's ears.

Even after, no especially after, being already warned about it.....;)

So you mean that if the deflategate punishment is maximized the Indianapolis Colts will have to give the Patriots a FIRST rounder instead of a THIRD rounder for framing them?

It's important to remember that this is not a case of tampering, it's a case of tampering repeatedly until the Jets had the player they were after, who is a first ballot HOF caliber player who was under contract to a division rival. It doesn't get any worse.

Now that I think of it since the Jets tampered repeatedly the Patriots should get multiple picks. Since I really don't want the Jets to be treated unfairly I think just their first and second will be enough. First, second, and third would be a little greedy.

On the flip side, no owner wants to get screwed over in a half-assed, incompetent sting operation, either.

You'd think that, yet we failed to anything like Kraft and several owners (even allegedly "friendly" owners) doing something as neutral (with respect to potential NE guilt) as issuing a public joint statement taking no position on Deflategate but condemning the irresponsible leaks from the NFL front office.

Get a court order to get the logs of Revis and his agents cell phones and if there's a connection with the Jets FO gimme their #6.

I read somewhere that they might have been on the Jets FO before the FA period starts, if that is true gimme their 7 picks.

Thank you for being the voice of moderation on this topic Ivan

Not a problem Pissah, I meditate deeply and try to be as calm, cool, and collected as possible before setting fingers to keyboard, especially when it comes to the Jets, whom I have the the deepest regard and affection for.

In the interests of total disclosure it's actually a tablet and it's finger to screen with swipe to text, there is no keyboard.

But the player is under no such restriction. Revis could have leaked the Jets' offer to Mehta. If Revis (and Mehta) were smart, Revis would have said "this is what I expect to ask the Jets for", in order to shield the Jets.

Curran responds to Mehta (they have gone at it on Twitter before on this):

Handslap of "petty Patriots" from Jets writer @mmehtaNYDN defies logic #cleanitup

https://twitter.com/tomecurran/status/578981324129730561

And here from his article:

So, why would anyone have bunched panties about the NFL reminding the New Jersey-based Jets that they can’t recruit?

Mehta’s got three fun contentions.

First, he called the league’s snooping around the Jets’ New Jersey home “a witch hunt driven by nonsense from a hypocritical organization with no reason to feel threatened by its competitor.”

Solid. The always heartening, “Why you bothering us? We suck?” defense. That’s one to rally behind.

Second, Mehta notes that, “Johnson’s comments three months ago in response to a direct question about the perennial Pro Bowler violated the NFL Anti-Tampering policy as written...”

In other words, everybody knows Woody tampered. But the fact he tampered into a live microphone at a press conference in response to a direct question is proof Johnson is completely without guile but also blissfully ignorant of the rules. So one can’t expect Woody Johnson to adhere to the rules the other 31 teams need to adhere to? Woody needs a seven-foot rim?

Inspiring.

Finally, we have the triple-decker hypocrisy sandwich being shoved down our throats by Manish.

The tampering investigation is a “witch hunt,” says Mehta. That’s not exactly the correct usage. See a witch hunt – remember, Massachusetts practically invented the practice – refers to a self-righteous, morally-outraged band of bloodthirsty truthers that conjures evidence against an easily-vilified group or person.

See, that’s a witch hunt.

They'll only look like frauds and hypocrites if the media plays it up. Which, since NE is involved, the media's anti-NE double-standard will come into play and the NFL will be let off the hook. And the NFL knows that -- they know they can get away with it.

Well, this hack is stupid enough not to know that there was no "legal tampering period" for Revis because he was not a free agent! He was under contract.

Whenever an article is written that is actually pro -Patriot about the Jets tampering, there will inevitably be comments posted by jet-homer imbeciles saying "The Patriots should never accuse another team of cheating!"

That there is some really brilliant logic

In other words, because ten years ago the Patriots taped another team 10 feet from where they were allowed to tape them, other teams should now be allowed to break the rules against the Patriots for the rest of eternity

Do jets fans drink the swamp water that their stadium was built upon?
