Anyone else think Gronk and Chandler will wreck the league?

hooman seems like the odd man out.

Except that, if Belichick wants to make extensive use of wild and crazy 2 TE sets with Gronk and Chandler, then he HAS to have a back up that can step into one of those all-purpose roles. Otherwise, one injury and he's got to scrap a big chunk of the playbook. So, Hooman may end up with an important backup role.

I believe that Belichick would REALLY like to feature the 2 TE set. It creates real problems in a hurry up offense because of the ease of switching between run blocking and pass catching depending on which personnel you catch the defense in.

I definitely can envision more 3 TE short yardage scenarios to maybe minimize the number of QB sneaks Brady does, someone like Wright can easily be forgotten and sneak past the defense on very a obvious running situation, kinda like Dobson did when he beat the Jests for a TD on his first NFL catch.

I don't think anyone will ever convince Tom Brady to stop the QB sneaks in the short yardage red zone situations ;)

Reading some of this its clear that some people have forgotten the beast that the Prisoner was. As good as Gronk was, Hernandez received a larger signing bonus and more guaranteed money than Gronk in their second contracts. Hernandez was the ultimate matchup nightmare. I never once saw him covered.

Chandler is a nice player and will be excellent down the seam, but he is not going to make this offense more dynamic than the Welker-Hernandez-Gronk incarnation.

I just do not see how you gameplan for it personally. Chandler actually has a QB that can get the ball to him consistently. It would seem almost impossible to stop Tom finding an open man if those 2 along with Jules and Lafell are lined up for a pass play at the same time. Imagine they draft a beast to take the top off, it might just be unstoppable.

Again the consensus i think is not really how our offense will be next season but more about the turnover in personnel on D and to some extent can Tom be protected with regularity. If he is then this addition of Chandler is going to be one of the most underrated of FA and i think that tandem with Gronk could be what everyone will talking about after the first few weeks of the season are done with.
As long as Chandler doesn't shoot and kill people, that look at him the wrong way, we should be fine. :)

Who is the best QB Chandler has ever plate with?

Agreed on the player Hernandez was. And the way he played too, he was elusive so he didn't absorb too much contact like Gronk does. He could have played a long time. What a waste.

Too bad we couldn't reel in Harvin. He could have been a similar matchup nightmare in this offense. An Edelman-Gronk-Harvin lineup would have been hell for defenses.

I could see the Pats carrying 4 TEs. Tim Wright is really a TE in name only and a better pass catcher than Tyms or whoever the 5th WR would likely be.

Assuming Dobson steps up healthy and can be your 4th you don't really need anymore.

Do a 2 TE set on 90%. It plays to Brady's strengths anyway.

I'm not going to say this is a normal comparison, but perhaps a best case scenario comparison. The best receiving/intra divisional (receiving) player we've acquired would have to be Wes Welker. I recall training camp and all the compliments that were being tossed around about how WW was uncoverable and that BB has had his eye on him.

I picked WW in the 12th round of my FF team and it was a steal at that point. I'm just pointing out the production of an apparent talent that was off the radar to a potentially comperable player (though we now know that WWs ceiling in our system was a perfect match). We have no idea how Chandler will fit, but we do know his production (total targets/receptions) won't come close to the change that WW experienced.

Just fishing for reasons that BB wanted SC. He's been fairly productive (scoring/ Yards per Reception mostly) against the Pats compared to his norm. and this is with lesser QBs.

Based on what I'm seeing, I would think SC's Reception % to go up, I would expect is yards/reception to go down as we may tend to play him more for getting 1st downs. But, the dynamics can obviously change per game. He is a big kid at 6-7, 270lbs. How many guys do teams have that can cover both him and Gronk at the same time? Plus handle the smurf patrol/LaFell?

It just gives the offense that much more of a dimension in all places on the field. While the rest of the division is going all in on defense (with good reason), our offense is matching their additions with out potential talent level. We'll leave discussions for post-season/defensive needs for another day.

Chandler is no Hernandez athletically, but he is freakin' huge and will certainly be a viable threat opposite Gronkowski.

What I'm curious about is whether the Patriots intend to move Wright to WR, or if they still want him to work on improving at TE. Then what? 3-TE sets?

I see Wright in 2 types of personnel packages. 3 TE, 1 WR, 1 RB and 3 TE and 2 WR.

Gronk, Chandler, Wright, Edelman, Cadet or Gronk, Chandler, Wright, Edelman, Lafell.

I like Gronk, Chandler, Edelman, Lafell as the base and add in a RB or TE or WR for the different packages.

Having Gronk, Chandler, Wright, Edelman, Lafell as red zone targets would seem a nightmare to defend.

No offense to Hooman or Devlin but if Chandler is a decent blocker, he can make this a more dynamic, hard to defend offense.

Yeah, I like what you're getting at here. Down inside the 10 with that 3TE package, you could put Gronk or Wright in the backfield... Imagine having Edelman's quickness on one side, LaFell's size on the other, plus the giants Gronk and Chandler in the middle, only to have Brady dump it off to Wright slipping out of the backfield for a walk-in TD?

Or, conversely, if you put Gronk in the backfield, probably 75% of the defense is laser-focused on what's happening back there, meaning Brady probably has easy completions to Edelman, LaFell, Chandler or Wright (3 of 4 of which are pretty damn big).

More weapons for Brady. And another big tall RZ target for defenses to worry about. I don't see the downside of this signing. I have a strong feeling we will see an increase in 2 TE packages in the upcoming season. :)

Our redzone O should get a nice boost with his size.\

The league will continue long after these two fine young men retire.
