Patriots vs Colts 2007:

Fast forward to 2 hours 48 seconds. Brady just hit Stallworth for a huge gain. Belichick clearly pissed at McDaniels about something. Could Bill actually be angry at josh for the offense not burning more clock on the drive? Before you all label me crazy, remember this was 2 years before the 4th and 2 game so take conventional wisdom and throw it in the trash. This is Manning in his prime. Thoughts?

Interesting. I couldn't help but rewatch snippets of that game. Liked that we went for the jugular on third down with a pass instead of playing conservative clock management and giving Manning the ball back.

Agreed with Welker screaming "You ****ing suck!" Not to derail my own thread but that's the Welker I miss. Back when he was just a tough sob but not a trace of diva in his game. What do you think of Bill chewing out McDaniels after that chunk play? Unrelated or is he saying "Slow josh go slow?"

It sure seemed like Belichick was agitated that they had driven down the field so quickly with Peyton Manning on the other sideline. I never necessarily agreed with being overly concerned about managing the clock when you are still down by a TD. Kind of like the Super Bowl where the Pats probably could have burned a little more clock off on their go ahead drive but they didn't seem to change their pace much.

If your talking about super bowl 42 I totally agree. Hard to pick and choose how you score when its mid to late 4th quarter and you have 7 points on the board. In a high scoring game when your scoring at will sure, if its been easy on you go ahead. Or like I said your going against Peyton in his prime then all bets are off.

I think I see what you're (the OP) is saying. It looks like Belichick says something like "Run the ball" or "Run the clock" to McDaniels.

A few other thoughts on this game:

I can't believe that long pass to Stallworth was called complete. I had forgotten about the force out rule. It seems like something that was changed more than 8 years ago.

Wasn't there a huge penalty disparity in this game? I think the Patriots were flagged 10 times for 130 yards compared to maybe 3 penalties on the Colts.

The season ended with disappointment for the Patriots, but the Colts had a great season and easily earned the #2 seed in the playoffs. They lost their first playoff game to the Chargers at home, even though Rivers and Tomlinson missed at least 1/2 the second half due to injury. I'm pretty sure the refs wiped out a punt or INT return for a TD by Cromartie on a phantom penalty just before halftime also.

I was at that game. Good times :) I remember a little 7 year old Colts fan sitting in front of me asking if the game was over at the end. I said yeah it's over. The little kid yelled out, "I hate the Colts!". Sad and funny at the same time :)

Observation of the Indy Colts from 2015:

They got Frank Gore RB, Andre Johnson WR , Todd Herremens OG and re-signed OT Joe Reitz.

Defensively they picked up Trent Cole OLB, Kendall Langford DT and re-signed S Darius Butler.

Does anyone here really think they've closed the gap of that 45-7 blowout in the AFCC?

We'll run it down their throats again and they'll cry foul after getting their assses whipped for the 4th year in a row. That's what I see happening.

@Koma I wonder what McDaniels was saying in response to that. I'm thinking either, ya I told him to run clock or, Bill we just need points. Interesting stuff to me. The mind is Belichick is a fascinating thing.

It's hard to say, because you can only see his reaction for a couple of seconds, but McDaniels seemed a little exasperated at being questioned about the play. Kind of like he was thinking "Brady decided to throw deep, I can't stop him."

The odd thing about the exchange is that the Patriots were definitely in a pass first mode: 3 wide receivers, the TE going out as a receiver, and Brady in the shotgun with Faulk in the backfield. It's not like they had Dillon, a FB and an extra lineman in for that series. Maybe the original plan was to run Faulk on 2nd down and Brady audibled to a pass. If you give the QB that leeway, that's something that can happen.

Wow, the offensive line really did struggle against those edge rushers. Brady was harassed all game and had to release the ball in under two seconds on almost every snap.

Manning has never lost a game when it was his fault. Just ask him.

3 PI's called on us: 2 DPIs for 77 yards. The first one was a bad call, but the second one was worse, as the defender was in perfect position and looking back ahead of the receiver, still dont know how they called it a penalty. Later in the second half Faulk gets pulled, which forces a drop.... but no call - Brady understandably heated in calling it out to the refs.

Adding insult to injury the refs called OPI on Moss, when it looked more like it should go the other way. No straight arms from 81. Even Simms and Nantz (hardly impartial as ever) were mystified by the call. I know it was in Indy, but a balanced set of judgement calls from the men in stripes it was not. At the end Colvin spikes the ball after the win-sealing fumble recovery and is slapped with a delay of game penalty. Turned out to be a franchise record day for most penalty yards.....ouch

Great recall, and even though he didn't live up to his big contract, I loved Rosey Colvin.

The first two or 3 games before his injury in 2003 he was the best player on the field. Without that hip injury BB could have done some things with him
