Yup, I don't think McCourty is that good, average at best. The only thing great about him now, is his ridiculous salary of 9 mil a year!

I'd take Collins over him right now too! Anyone can look great playing safety behind Revis and Browner, let 's see how great he plays with Dennard and TBD playing CB.

Google NFL Hall of Famers from Rutgers and see the negative results.

Here's the top ten...

Notre Dame (12) Southern California (12) Ohio State (9) Michigan (8) Pittsburgh (8) Alabama (7) Syracuse (7) Illinois (6) Miami - Florida (6) - See more at:

Have to agree on the MCourty thing. I think there are better Safeties than McCourty. I think he needs to cut Revis and Browner an "honorarium" financial reward for his contract this year. He is a very good player, not a Superstar like he is getting paid.

He is good and I like him but not the value of his contract.

My thoughts and opinion only please.

Would make sense were McCourty not excellent prior to Revis/Browner.

So you'd take Mark Barron - a first team All American Safety from Alabama, top 10 draft pick who was already traded because he was rubbish over All Big East Devin McCourty out of Rutgers?

McCourty isn't the only example. How about I offer your choice of, say, the 3 SEC defensive backs selected after Duron Harmon? (That would be Sanders Commings, Tharold Simon and Jonathan Meeks, with their combined career stats line of 12 tackles, 3 pdef and 1 int. Poor Rutgers boy Harmon has only managed 32 tackles, 5 pdf and 3 int.)

The fact is that despite all the joking, the Pats have gotten excellent total value from their Rutgers DB picks. The big DB mistake came when they looked past Rutgers and drafted Big 10.

If the Ravens and Pats trade 2013 SEC first rounder Matt Elam for 2013 Rutgers third rounder Duron Harmon, do the Pats still win the playoff game this year?

There is 1 who is better - Earl Thomas is better and that's it. Outside of him McCourty is the best in he game.

He is a new england guy, went to high school in Bloomfield, CT. I have no idea how he would do as a player here but he actually went to school with my GF and according to her the guy he is an enormous ****.

I'm sure the Pats regret drafting that stiff Chandler Jones from Syracuse.
Hell Bucky Jones was better than McCourty!

Syracuse will add at least one more HOFer soon too, Marvin Harrison.
Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Floyd Little, John Mackey, Art Monk..etc.
and Oh, BTW Al Davis, Doug Marrone, and Tom Coughlin

Who gives a damn which school a players comes from?

If a player can perform consistently great like DMac he might as well have attended clown college for all I care.

Many players from lesser college programs went on to have amazing careers. Many players from big programs are out of the league after a few years.
