Karen Guregian with a nice op/ed column today on the subject.

That ship has sailed, hasn’t it? The cat’s out of the bag on that Belichick trick. Or it should be. The 31 other teams in the league should be ready at all times for the eligible/ineligible player tactic. If they’re not, shame on them.
The beauty of Belichick doing it in January was the element of surprise, knowing it was within the rules, and catching the Ravens off guard. His team was behind, and he was trying to find a way to turn the game around and put doubt in the opponent’s mind.

. . . . . . . . . .
Once again, if Belichick were able to create the same kind of confusion with the same ruse in the future, it would be stunning. Although, you never know. Some teams just aren’t prepared. That said, if the rule passes, its effect should be fairly negligible.
In the final analysis, Belichick clearly rattled a few cages with his unconventional looks. Can’t have too many coaches or players look so lost during games. But it’s not the first time Belichick succeeded in that quest, and it certainly won’t be the last.
