FWIW, here's a quote from a guy I like on twitter quoting an agent saying what the Patriots told him. This isn't exactly breaking news. For those who don't speak twitter, the bolded part is the quote from the agent :

Agent Today, 'Talking Pats FA Corner I Rep, flat out told me they're going more zone to protect CBs so didn't like my guy at our number.'

Yay back to 10 yard cushions on 3rd and 4

How reliable is this?

Forget it.

Tillman is 34 years old and is primarily a Tampa 2 cover cornerback.

We will now be playing primarily a zone coverage anyway, so Tillman fits quite well provided that
his biceps are healed.

In alphabetical order (because the offers would be different), my wish list includes:
Zach Bowman
Tarell Brown (my current #1 target)
Bradley Fletcher (Bill squeezed something out of ex-Eagle Chung; maybe lightning strikes twice?)
Rasheen Mathis (though likely returning to Detroit)
Sterling Moore
Terence Newman (Plan C after Brown & Tillman)
Charles Tillman (Plan B after Brown)

Without at least one savvy vet from Brown, Tillman & Newman, our CBs are going to be the worst
in the league unless the next Ty Law (1st-year contributor) falls from heaven during the draft.

Needless to say - but I will anyway - not picking up Browner's option was absolutely ******ed.

Why aren't the pats even hosting tramon williams or any other veteran CB? Are they just waiting for the prices on some of them to drop? Draft? Baffling, but I trust BB.

Because 3/21 is too much for a 32 year CB who at his best topped out at pretty good. I don't like
our CB situation right now--can't imagine anyone does--but paying a significant premium for marginal talent just messes with the cap going forward and doesn't make us significantly better now. The Pats have enough young guys that need to get paid in the next couple years that I'd rather they let Cleveland sign guys like Tramon Williams than end up with what'll be a worse version of the Arrington albatross contract in 2 years.

Every time I see Kyle Wilson's name come up in FA, I'm reminded of all the Jets fans gloating after the first round in 2010 that he was going to be WAY better than McCourty.

Tillman is 34 years old.

Mathis is 35 years old.

Newman will be 37 years old when the 2015 NFL Season starts.

Stick a fork in 'em, their done.

So you're OK with Arrington, Butler, Chekwa, Dennard, Ryan, Swanson, and a draft pick?

Brown, Tillman, Newman sounds like the most logical order of guys to look toward, assuming Mathis is unavailable... Though, Brown would probably be the most expensive, so I can see the team looking at Newman as a cheap one year deal while they develop guys.

In what universe is Bradley Fletcher a better option than Tarell Brown?
If this deal is for anything more than the vet minimum+, I'm gonna be pissed.

The decision making at the cornerback position this offseason has baffled me. I'm trying to reserve judgement and not jump to conclusions. Right now I am so confused.

I really don't understand it either. It reeks of desperation which is just not something the Patriots do.

Unless they re-illegalize the forward pass prior to the season, "the plan" here is not yet evident... :)

What exactly has baffled you? They tried to re-sign revis but when he went to the jets the few other decent cb options in free agency had signed with other teams and had been overpaid. Did you want them to spend $60 million on Maxwell?
