Pats and Ninkovich agree on contract adjustment increase

Ninkovich has played a very high number of snaps over the past couple of seasons. There are worse reasons to give somebody a raise, given the toll that football takes on a body.

What is the hold up on the restructure? Health? There could not be more evidence of how inconsequential Mayo is than last season. His cap number vs. actual value is laughable. 7 years - 10 sacks - 3 picks - very little impact (as evidenced by the team winning the SB without him).
Glad you don't coach the team.

No but Ninko has. I think they will try to lower Mayo's cap # once he is healthy.

I hope so. 2nd highest cap number on the team and they won without him. He has zero leverage.

What the hell are we planning to do with all this cap space? Mayo's restructure will probably put us back to 12 million under.
ya I agree there are no players out there to use the money on and it takes less then 3 million to sign Draft picks so why rework Mayo just to have 10 million in cap on opening day

I hope we don't go through all our cap space just giving players bonuses. That would look like we've just run out of ideas on how to use it well. And begs the question why we didn't offer some other players just a little bit more to land them.

They won't, the cap rolls over into the next season unless this year is different because it's the end of the 4 year spending window, or whatever you want to call it.

There shouldn't be any need to spend it and unless they are 100% required to use all cap or lose it, they won't just make up new ways to burn it.

Why? Do you think they are just pissing away money now because everyone else refused to take it?

No but I'm worried they may have miscalculated how F/A was going to go and now need to react to it.

Per Miguel we only need 1,5kk to sign draft picks. We have to extend Hightower and Jones next year. So we will have to save some money.

That seems remarkably unlikely, particularly when they landed two of the more useful guys out there. Either way, I'm not seeing how Nink has anything to do with that.

It has nothing to do with it, if they had extra money they could carry it over. Some people around here make no sense and are better off ignored.

jones may take some big cash to bring back if he stays on the field he is a 10 sack guy but Hightower should not be hard to sign even if he has a amazing year he will be paid like a MLB 5 or 6 million per

As for the move itself, while in a vacuum I'm not a fan of giving away cap space (assuming we lose cap space here), the Patriots walk a fine line between squeezing good deals out of players and pissing them off to the point that they feel screwed. Both for keeping team guys happy and attracting outside FA, it's really important that while we negotiate team friendly deals that players, both on the team and off, think we're fair with them. If that's what happened here so be it.
