This thread reminds me of the Chung thread from last year. Think rereading that might give people some perspective. Maybe, just maybe, the Patriots coaching staff knows better than you do.

Fletcher is a zone CB that was forced to play man against #1 WRs with Nate Allen as the safety "help". He isn't going to be covering Dez Bryant 1-on-1 with no help on the Patriots.

I agree with alot of what you said but I hate this argument so much. The coaching staff does know more than all of us but that doesn't mean they never get it wrong. They are not above criticism.

So whom will we ask to cover #1 CBs?

The Patriots played over 70% of their defensive snaps last year with 5 or 6 DBs on the field. They play a lot of different coverages, almost all of which rely on safety help or doubling receivers depending on the down and distance. As a general philosophy, their number one goal on defense is to take away the long pass/big play. I expect the "GTFB" mantra to continue.

@PatriotsSB49 was right... "Revis who?"

Funny how things play out from season to season. Last year the jets had one of the worst set of corners in the NFL and the pats had one of the best tandems. At this point jets now have one of the best while the patriots have what looks to be one of the worst.

Sigh. I just got redirected to an adult website when I first clicked on this thread on my phone. This is why I use an ad blocker on my PC. gonna have to find one for my phone.

Yup, happened to me at work.

Ian, might want to look into that :)

The criticism needs to be more than lol the Pats are getting desperate. If anyone wants to say something about how this move might not work out for next season, fine. How this move removes all possibility of other players being signed, traded for or drafted. I'm not seeing that.

It's hilarious to read all the anecdotes about "My Eagles fan friend tells me..."

This is a bottom 5 fanbase in the NFL, they are in general idiots who know nothing about football. I am sure your friends are all very nice people, but I will take their evaluations of players with all of the salt grains.

Here's a weird thought maybe BB uses him in way that plays to his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses.

I don't know when it comes to defense Bill Belichick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chip Kelly and Bill Davis

It would be absolutely hilarious though if McCourty has an All Pro year and Chung and Fletcher have solid 2015 seasons. iggles fans would be beside themselves. McCourty said thanks but no thanks to them and Chung and Fletcher were basically run out of town.

Stepping outside the thread topic for a brief moment:

I was thinking about this today and I find it interesting that the last four #1 CB's that we've considered really good - Revis, Talib, McCourty (at least for his rookie year), and Samuel - all came to the team in different ways:

Revis = Free Agent signing

Talib = Trade

McCourty = High draft pick

Samuel = Mid round draft pick who worked his way up over the years

So this signing is a camp body, hopefully someone who plays better than we expect and finds a role for himself. But just because we don't sign a Revis replacement (and by that I mean a competent #1 corner, not the best corner in the league) in free agency doesn't mean we won't find one in one of the other three ways that we've done so in the past.

From Superbowl champions to laughing stock of the NFL within months. Hopefully Phily's coverage schemes just suck.

Have to admit, now with 2 older kids and their activities I don't watch as much football as I used to, but WHO THE F#CK IS BRADLEY FLETCHER?????? REALLY KRAFTY?????"?

I am sure BB knows better than us about players, but this forum is to express our thoughts and feelings. My felling is ...Tebow is even better CB than Fletcher.

But he gave up 9 tds. Sounds like he was seeing a lot of action - did the Eagles just put him out on an island against top receivers?
He did play on an island 1on1 against the teams #1 WR. He had a poor game against the Cowboys allowing 3 TDs to Dez Bryant.

I think it is important to consider the impact of the free safety on the CBs. How many TDs do you think the Sherman would allow if not for Thomas. Fletcher is a physical CB he is like Browner who if not for McCourty would have gotten beat many times last season. He does a lot of things well, and if you put him a position that is optimal for his skill set which I believe Belichick will he will be a pleasant surprise.

SWEET JEEZUS! enough with the VALUE signings in the secondary! Krafty Bob's really going to town with the currency from winning the SB....
