I put some combine numbers together for Woodhead, Vereen, White, Cadet and a bunch of other RBs that have been drafted that have receiving skills.. some are big names just for reference/comparison purposes;

Player - Height -Weight - 40 Time - 3 Cone Drill - Shuttle - Vertical - Broad Jump - Bench Press
Danny Woodhead 5'8" 200 4.33 7.03 4.03 38.5 120 20
Shane Vereen 5'10" 210 4.5 6.95 4.28 34 115 31
James White 5'9" 204 4.57 7.05 4.2 32 114 23
Tavaris Cadet 6'1" 210 4.64 6.97 4.21 33 120 16
Sproles 5'6" 187 4.47 6.96 3.96 33 105 23
Bush 6'0" 201 4.37 NA NA 40.5 128 24
Jahvid Best 5'10" 199 4.35 6.75 4.17 35.5 113 18
Roy Helu 6'0" 219 4.4 6.67 4.01 36.5 119 11
Giovani Bernard 5'8" 202 4.53 6.91 4.12 33.5 122 19
Montee Ball 5'10" 214 4.66 6.88 4.4 32 118 15
Tre Mason 5'8" 207 NA NA 4.15 38.5 126 NA
Jamaal Charles 5'11" 200 4.38 6.8 4.22 30.5 122 NA
Ray Rice 5'8" 199 4.42 6.65 4.2 31.5 119 23
Leon Washington 5'8" 201 4.42 6.96 4.37 32.5 105 17
Joseph Addai 5'11" 214 4.4 7.1 4.48 38.5 125 18

One conclusion I can immediately draw from those #s:
Woody athletically is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> both White & Cadet.

Blount
Gray
Cadet
Bolden
Develin

Upgrade the guard spots in the draft and I'm content with that group. Blount is 2nd in the NFL in yards after contact after Lynch. He just needs a head of steam and he'll be a very good starting RB. A better OL will do that.

I'll pass on any 1st-3rd round RBs.

edit: if teams really are dumb enough to not give Ridley a chance I'd love him back in Gray's spot.

What about Tyler Gaffney?

I was talking pats FA with a guy at work and he just forwarded this along: All of Cadets touches from 2014...

After watching this, one thing is for sure: The guy can run routes, and he gets every yard that is in front of him, pats love this.

Not really that impressive, but at least Bill didn't throw away as much cap space on him as he did
with Fletcher, Cannon, Branch...

He looks good. The fact that this JAG player has 4 minutes of highlights tells you something about his potential.

If Cadet pans out (thinking he will), he's a steal for 2016. Good job by BB by getting a 2nd year on the deal.

This is great! Thanks.

Not a pass catching RB
He isn't a 3rd down back but everything I have read about Gaffney says he catches the ball well. No?

I have a sneaking suspicion the team already views him as the lead candidate to take the role.

Tough to tell from just a highlight reel but a few things stood out...

1) One cut and go...Both after he catches the ball and on run. Unlike the last #39 w/ dreds that played for the Pats, no dancing.
2) The Saints love that screen pass. Hopefully JMD uses it w/ him here.
3) He didn't break a lot of tackles but didn't avoid contact either.
4) Had a couple nice catches up the seam. Seems to get down field quick.

Trying not to be too optimistic but seems like 40-50 catches and 75 carries for a 4.0 ave is very attainable for him in this offense.

Thanks. Yea I read this a few days ago from rotoworld..

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench believes Stanford senior RB Tyler Gaffney's pass protection needs some work.

"Stanford RB Tyler Gaffney has quick feet for size and always moving forward. Also catches ball well but pass pro needs work," Muench tweeted. Gaffney is a workhorse back who has the ability to wear down defenses with his running style, but lacks the ideal explosion. He could be a complimentary piece to a NFL backfield at the next level and could be a third day selection.

Who knows. Just gotta see how he does.

Sounds like he'll contribute, probably takes over Vereen's role much cheaper.

Solid Patriots type pickup. Not a big name, but a talented 3rd down back

he looked good on the highlights, not great...didn't like how he body caught many of the passes. Also, didn't see many catches where the ball wasn't where it should be..thanks to Brees' accuracy. I wanted to see how he caught, or didn'r catch some throws that were slightly off.

Not a highlight reel... it's all his touches.

None of it looks like a highlight reel in the sense of crazy one-handed catches or 5 tackles broken... but if one thinks about "highlights" as "pretty good positive plays," it was full of those, with very little "meh" material. Most plays here would raise the volume of cheers in the stadium. That's pretty cool given that it's not a highlight reel.

We'll see whether he's on the 53... but I like what I do see...

He looks like he runs really high in those videos, and with the reports of his lack of pass blocking, he's definitely a receiver/receiving back.

I could see a situation where we burn through Cadet and White, and Edelman has to take 3rd down back responsibilities. You know he'll go to war for Brady while pass blocking, and he'd make shotgun draws not just exciting, but an actual threat. Then there's his running after the catch....

I'm not saying Jules should make a full time, McCourty-like switch to RB, but this year, it might be in the best interest of the team to shift him back on third downs.
