Anyone else think Gronk and Chandler will wreck the league?

Between TEs and WRs, we have a LOT of guys. I wouldn't be confident in big numbers from anybody except Gronk and Edelman, and of course they've each had their injury issues in the past.

I think Tim Wright will benefit most from this as I think he becomes strictly the Move TE playing to his strengths.....

I agree we may be the first team to implement 3TE sets on a regular basis....Chandler in line with Gronk and Wright split wide....hell we started the double TE formation so why not

It's going to be interesting that's for sure. If the Patriots can get stronger at guard this will be a really physical team and they are going to need that in this division. I love the fact that the AFCE now has the best defensive lines in football because it battle tests teams for the playoffs. I love it when they went to their BIG formations because defenses really struggled with it and they won the fistfight and the games. By adding Chandler they have the ability to go BIG without even bringing on another OT, and they seriously increase the receiving threat and production. And while AFCE defenses have really strong lines they are lacking at LB, which is a strength for the Patriots, and opposing defenses are going b to have a tough time dealing with both the small quick slot guys in Amendola and Edelman and the two jumbo TE's.

The v Patriots are far from done but the offense has many good things going on. More to do, but I like what it's shaping up to be.

gronk - 1,300 yards...12-16 td's.

chandler 500-700 yards - 8-9 tds

just guessing

That would be beastly!

People said the same thing about Ben Watson & Daniel graham & gronkowski & Jake f#cking Ballard....
I wouldn't be surprised if it comes down to camp / pre season & they keep a combo of two of Holman/wright/chandler & they pick the cheapest combo...

Well.....

OhOh is apparently still on the team, so that should mean that he got his $300k bonus. That doesn't guarantee that he'll make the team, but it certainly would seem to be a strong indicator (Miguel agrees, FTR):

Due to the signing bonus, Hoomanawanui should be expected to make the team out of camp.

So, unless the Patriots are going with a 4TE roster this year, Mr. Wright would seem to be in a precarious position, at the moment.

Gosh, I just went through the combine results and Hernandez was in another world as far as TEs. He literally was a WR that was strong as a bull. Is this what every offseason will be for us? Looking for a new move TE, only to be disappointed haha

Chandler being a bit better than Hooman isnt something thats going to light the league on fire

Yes it would, yes it would....don't know why everyone is so down on Tim Wright, sure he isn't a blocker(can be coached up and he could bulk up), but he wasn't acquired from Tampa for that reason....rather a TE that could exploit the deep middle like AHern made a living. At least how I saw his value. Chandler will thrive here, I think, and will be like Christian Fauria used to be for us, not flashy but effective.

Actually, it was started about 40 years ago in the mid-1970s--but Bill Belichick was one of the coaches that was on the staff who first began to use it:

BB=Nastradamus.....visionary in every way, thanks for that info though

Why is everyone dismissing 6 TD catches from Wright? When they were scratching for TD's.

Nobody wrecks the league. Gronk may be the best TE ever, but he has games where teams do a good job on him and limit him. .....What will happen, IMO, is that you will make the defense do things they do not wish to do in order to take away what you can do well.
....
The value of Gronk+Murderer was that the defense needed to pick whether the Murderer was a WR or a TE so whether to play nickel or base. If you play base he is a mismatch in the passing game. If you play nickel, you have a mismatch in the running game. In either case you have to decide whether you can handle both of them in man, or if you must play zone, and then how do you play you zone based on the stress on the seams from 2 active TEs.

I think that Chandler brings this back, but really I think it is a better version because Chandler can be a dangerous on the line TE, who can block well, and Gronk is freed up to be the move guy. We started seeing this last year, with Gronk splitting out, or lining up on the wing, or even in the backfield. That was on a very limited basis because we didn't have a Chandler to take the other role and be effective.

I think the Chnadler signing is going to be an enormous one, not because of what he actually does, but because of the options it opens up for Gronk to be a dominant weapon all over the field. We can actually dictate other teams personnel and coverages, and by putting Gronk in the move spot we can isolate him into mismatches.

Andy, once I read your post; I immediately thought - but how could you insert Wright into that Gronk-Chandler mix. Be great to hear your thoughts on how they could use 3 TE set (i would think Wright in backfield, but you seem to imply you think Gronk would more likely be back there in that situation).

Chandler is no Hernandez athletically, but he is freakin' huge and will certainly be a viable threat opposite Gronkowski.

What I'm curious about is whether the Patriots intend to move Wright to WR, or if they still want him to work on improving at TE. Then what? 3-TE sets?

Great minds think alike. ;)

I think wright is still a TE. But with less blocking skills than Chandler.

He was fine as a Redzone pass catcher but his production was pretty limited beyond that. The thing that concerned me was that he became less involved as the season wore on rather than more involved which I thought was a bit of a red flag. Hopefully he'll do well in camp and be another asset on this offense.

I'm not an expert but I do recall that the Chiefs used 3+ TE sets to great effect to seriously run over the Pats last year. They had some pretty good TEs but I would say the Pats do too at this point. Obviously the big difference is they have Jamaal Charles, but Pats have Brady, so maybe some similar concepts could work.

I don't know what to make of it either. Only speculation I have is that because of his size, he was a liability in the blocking game (pass and run).

Overall he played 351 snaps which was about 30% of the snaps or 20 a game last year but to your point was sparingly used in the playoffs.

I really don't know what will become of him.
