Patriots sign RB Travaris Cadet

Agree. That is what I believe will happen.

Certainly could. It'll still involve a receiving/blocking back in some manner, though.

How do you pronounce this guys last name? Cadet like Air Force Cadet or Cadet like bidet?

He no doubt anglo-ed it up. But the word is french. Means "the youngest sibling". Can't think of a word off hand that is pronounced the same way. Your bidet example would be ok if Anglos pronounced it correctly I guess. But instead of "et" sounding like the Fonz's ehhhhhh it should be more like the "a" in "can".

Anyboo - Franco out. Let the Reign of Cadet be long and prosperous, regardless of how massacred his family name will be !

I admit I know very little about this guy. But I did see he did most of his damage filling in when Thomas was hurt. Could be a diamond in the rough type of player that no one thinks much of who hits (see Danny Woodhead).

I am not worried about the 3rd down/receiving back. They seem to go from one to the next with little drop off.

Yep. And just for the record I do like the signing, just thought some were over enthused

I'm not going to lie, I never heard of him, but if he's cheap and if he can help our team, I'm all for it.

Between one of James White, Travaris Cadet, Dion Lewis, perhaps Tyler Gaffney, and perhaps a drafted back, I have confidence that the team will have a competent third down RB. I couldn't tell you for sure which guy it will be, but I feel good that it'll be one of them.

Bb seems to find a role where a player can maximize his skillet and his value to the team.

Which is why versatility is so important to bb.

It will be interesting to see what role if any cadet can carve out.

One thing is for sure, the Patriots are taking the Chinese approach to the position: throw all your eggs at the wall and see which ones stick.

I like this signing. I think next seasons Patriots offense is really going to need to be able to play horizontally, as they did in the Super Bowl, and make front 7s cover the whole field. Cadet is going to be a guy who can make that play in space go for 1st downs and keep the chains moving. He also plays STs really well and is great value at a position of need. A good under the radar signing by the Patriots.

It seems that he is only a threat to catch out of the backfield. Doesn't that just mean that if he's out there the defense is gonna know we are passing? That was kind of a problem we had with Vereen. I was hoping for someone who could rush and catch.

I disagree. These are quiet signings but they can really help them. I think Chandler and Cadet can fill significant roles at a really good price. Nothing splashy but both players could play important role for them.

Chandler isn't a RB. I was referring to the specific position.

Also, we don't know what Cadet will bring. He may be a Woodhead diamond in the rough or he may be the player buried behind Ingram, Thomas and Robinson. I like the signing for what he represents but I'd rather take a wait and see approach.

I'm not putting him in Canton I just think he can fill some important roles. Well see how it shakes out but I
Like the signing.

Don't get me wrong, Cadet appears to fill a need (as does Chandler) and I do like the signing it's more cautious optimism than anything (mainly because I believe the Patriots could do with an upgrade at RB1).

Vereen never impressed me as much of a runner, and looks like this guy is the same. My question is, why even bother having a 3rd down back? why not put a receiver in there on 3rd downs and teach him to pick up blocks? Or, if you need someone with experience blocking, why not put Tim Wright in there? The Pats aren't going to be running to pick up a 3rd down when a 3rd down back is in there, and teams know this. So putting someone labeled as an "RB" doesn't keep the threat of a run in there anyway on these 3rd downs.

Really clever signing, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who missed the fact he was a FA.

I may get hammered for this, but I feel Vereen was made to look a special talent by our play calling and having Tom throw to him. That isn't to say he isn't good, because he is. But our system made him what he was, hence the lack of rush to get into a bidding war.

I feel Cadet can do the same kind of job.

Did anyone else get the feeling, like with Harvin, that once it became known that the Pats were interested in a player, interest from other teams did too?

Like other teams respect what BB does so much that his interests become other teams' interests?

Good job keeping this one quiet BB.

A little too much excitement from some over this signing I think. From my limited knowledge of cadet, seems to have good hands but little ability to shed or elude tacklers and is not fast(too put it nicely). Looks like possible competition for bolden/white rather than someone who's just going to step into vereens role.

Competition for Bolden?

Is Cadet a ST demon?

I put some combine numbers together for Woodhead, Vereen, White, Cadet and a bunch of other RBs that have been drafted that have receiving skills.. some are big names just for reference/comparison purposes;
