I just do not see how you gameplan for it personally. Chandler actually has a QB that can get the ball to him consistently. It would seem almost impossible to stop Tom finding an open man if those 2 along with Jules and Lafell are lined up for a pass play at the same time. Imagine they draft a beast to take the top off, it might just be unstoppable.

Again the consensus i think is not really how our offense will be next season but more about the turnover in personnel on D and to some extent can Tom be protected with regularity. If he is then this addition of Chandler is going to be one of the most underrated of FA and i think that tandem with Gronk could be what everyone will talking about after the first few weeks of the season are done with.

If the Pats can coach up Chandler's blocking, the duo will be sick. If his blocking doesn't improve significantly, he's just a tall receiver.

I think some are underestimating how much impact a legitimate #2 TE will have, but "wreck" seems excessive. :)

At great risk of over simplifying things, I've operated under the assumption that Hernandez and Gronk were such an incredible duo because there was no one defensive player that could both cover them in pass coverage AND be a threat to get to the ball carrier should the Patriots be choosing to run that play.

While Chandler is going to be a mismatch in some situations, I don't think he threatens the same level of mismatch that Hernandez would have in the same position.

But as the poster above me said, having a legitimate #2 TE will no doubt have a bigger impact than what we saw last year (though Im also hoping that another year in the system will mean great things for Wright as well).

Gronk Chandler, and Wrigth oh my..................19-0

Seriously though, Chandler does represent the first legitimate backup tight end since Hernandez so it should be interesting to watch.

Hooman and Wright were serviceable but nothing special.

Nobody wrecks the league. Gronk may be the best TE ever, but he has games where teams do a good job on him and limit him. This idea of striving for something unstoppable is silly.
What will happen, IMO, is that you will make the defense do things they do not wish to do in order to take away what you can do well.
This is like the "OMG he's a deep threat, they have to account for him" stuff. Any WR in the NFL that goes deep will be accounted for. They will all see the same coverages as well, but the difference is that the more dangerous they are the more you can often force a coverage. The same goes for personnel.

The value of Gronk+Murderer was that the defense needed to pick whether the Murderer was a WR or a TE so whether to play nickel or base. If you play base he is a mismatch in the passing game. If you play nickel, you have a mismatch in the running game. In either case you have to decide whether you can handle both of them in man, or if you must play zone, and then how do you play you zone based on the stress on the seams from 2 active TEs.

I think that Chandler brings this back, but really I think it is a better version because Chandler can be a dangerous on the line TE, who can block well, and Gronk is freed up to be the move guy. We started seeing this last year, with Gronk splitting out, or lining up on the wing, or even in the backfield. That was on a very limited basis because we didn't have a Chandler to take the other role and be effective.

I think the Chnadler signing is going to be an enormous one, not because of what he actually does, but because of the options it opens up for Gronk to be a dominant weapon all over the field. We can actually dictate other teams personnel and coverages, and by putting Gronk in the move spot we can isolate him into mismatches.

Depending on how they gameplan, this could be one of their better offenses ever.

Gronk & Hernandez would have been their best offense of all time if they could have stayed healthy together for any length of time (and out of jail).

Two tight ends sets are versatile and difficult to defend. Add in a possession receiver like Lafell, and two smurfs like Edelman & Amendola and a 3rd down back like Cadet. If another receiving option steps up even a little (Dobson, Gibson, Tyms) then we are off the races 2007 style.

Gronk will put up elite numbers but Chandler will take Wrights place and should do what he did for the bills 40 rec 500 yards 5 TD and if he dose that he is a great #2 TE but he is not a 1000 yard TE if that's what you mean by wreck the league.

he only has one career 100 yard game and it was vs the pats I think last year and he will be 30 when the season starts so his 500 yard average with the bills as a #1 TE is as good as he will ever be IMO

I also miss Hernandez the player. But let's keep it real : Gronk is RIDIC. The fact that he played all season and showed up big in big spots is a huge reason NE went all the way. He is a nightmare. I need to think Chandler, while neither Gronk nor Hernandez, will greatly benefit from an alltimer like Brady throwing him the ball and a potential alltimer in Gronk nearby.

Again i am thinking along the lines of you have the most dominant player in the league in Gronk and then you add a guy with huge upside in Chandler that's also a big body with great hands and all this combined with Minitron, Lafell and the best QB ever throwing them the ball. I just see scary potential when i put it together because the 2014 offense was pretty impressive.

If Chandler can block I'd say yes. But that's a big if.

Hernandez > Chandler

So, I'm not sure "wreck the league" is what's in store. Time will tell.

Extremely optimistic, highly doubtful. If Chandler was as good as people make him out to be here

a) he would have much better numbers, despite the QBs he played with.

b) he would have gotten a bunch of offers in the open market for a decent amount of money.

Dude is almost 30 now and hasn't done anything significant in the league besides being a pain in the ass against the Pats. I know he's the only thing we could get excited for so far but pump the breaks a little...

Like the confidence..but lets pump the brakes here

Chandler is no Hernandez athletically, but he is freakin' huge and will certainly be a viable threat opposite Gronkowski.

What I'm curious about is whether the Patriots intend to move Wright to WR, or if they still want him to work on improving at TE. Then what? 3-TE sets?
