Patriots sign RB Travaris Cadet

Blount
Gray
Cadet
Bolden
Develin

Upgrade the guard spots in the draft and I'm content with that group. Blount is 2nd in the NFL in yards after contact after Lynch. He just needs a head of steam and he'll be a very good starting RB. A better OL will do that.

I'll pass on any 1st-3rd round RBs.

edit: if teams really are dumb enough to not give Ridley a chance I'd love him back in Gray's spot.

Reminds me of Woodhead's career arc. Cadet spent 3 years on a team buried on a depth chart (was never more than the backup receiving back and only carried the ball 11 times) and hopefully goes to NE to break out.

Was about to post something similar.

I'm assuming Cadet was never tainted by the horrors of the Jersey swamp?

(Fun fact: my auto correct tried to change Cadet to Vader. :p )

There's no make your own play playmakers in that group @patsinthesnow. In fact, it's a rather pedestrian collection of talent. Collectively, it looks like a group of workhorses, not big play potential guys. That's fine but where's the mix? Outside of Cadet and his pass catching ability, it's same same.

Unless White magically transforms overnight, I would like the Patriots to add one of the quality RBs in the draft. I'd be fine with an earlier pick being used if the selection demands it.

@AdamSchefter: Patriots have found a Shane Vereen replacement, signing former Saints RB Travaris Cadet, as @FieldYates reported. Saints couldn't afford him
With regard to the Pats, Shefter never tweets, speaks or writes anything attached with a negative connotation to it. There is no editorializing with him. Thats a good thing.

Not much to see here I suspect .... other than competition for White for the 3rd down spot.

Really clever signing, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who missed the fact he was a FA.

I may get hammered for this, but I feel Vereen was made to look a special talent by our play calling and having Tom throw to him. That isn't to say he isn't good, because he is. But our system made him what he was, hence the lack of rush to get into a bidding war.

I feel Cadet can do the same kind of job.

“From Day 1, I’ve seen this would be a hard team to make,” Cadet said of joining one of the NFL’s elite offenses. “In life, you want something that’s going to push you to your fullest potential and is going to bring everything out of you.
“You’re going to get knocked down 10 times,” he said, “but you’re going to get up 11 times.”
It’s that kind of attitude, and versatility, that have had coach Sean Payton and his teammates talking about Cadet since he arrived.
Safety Rafael Bush is beginning to appreciate the things Cadet can do, even though Bush didn’t get to see them last summer after joining the Saints just before the regular-season opener.
He is a threat offensively; a threat in the return game; a threat in the kicking game; he can catch the ball well out of the backfield; he can run in between the tackles; he has speed; he has vision for our kickoff returns; and he can also cover kicks,” Bush said. “The more you can do, the better.”
Said Payton, who was suspended last season and is getting his first extended look at Cadet: “He had good ball skills. He’s smart, and some of the things I have seen him do are encouraging. I think in the return game, he is going to improve.”

What are people's thoughts on Dion Lewis? Is it Cadet v Lewis v White for the Vereen spot? Was watching some Lewis college highlights and have seen two Barry Sanders comparisons made. Admittedly one was by Matt Millen though.

I think this is a good signing. The guy has a very good background as already mentioned.

I don't get the enthusiasm over White, I haven't seen him do one thing to prove he's got the talent. I think this is Cadet's job and White gets cut.

Where have you seen enthusiasm for White?

When White shows some toughness I'll start thinking about him ... so far he seems soft ... we'll see.

Ahh… The optimism in this thread for this guy is sort of perplexing, but maybe I'm wrong and he's not just another dude. I definitely don't see a Vareen replacement here, but hopefully I'll eat those words.

What's the deal with Ridley? Is he coming back or what?

Vote Ridler in 2015

Best part is everyone will be butchering his name just as much as Vereen's.

Took like 8 posts to prove your point.:D
