How Have We Improved

The OP makes a statement based on facts, asks a simple question, yet people on here accuse the guy of "whining." Truth is Miami, Buffalo, and the NYJ have signed some quality players (and haven't lost much that i can see) whilst the Pats have lost a ton and haven't signed anyone that is not currently a JAG based on their prior year's production. Sure, maybe this Jamaal Shared fella will amount to something, but something about him screams SHAWN CRABLE to me:D.
right now this team is going into the season with Arrington, Butler, Logan Ryan, Chimidi Okomngtononbalanhgni at corner....is terrence newman going to make a difference? All signs point back to that horrific defense of the last 5, 6 years prior to this season. Many fans say the Pats will switch to a more pressure-oriented front - is Jabari Shield the answer to the pass rush? Look, Ninkovich is a year older, and Chandler Jones is a shoe in to miss 5-7 games next year....just not too confident right now. I'd say, ok, win with offense and OUTSCORE the other team, but Johnson left with no contract as did Bush League...why no signings? Krafty gotta make more cardboard boxes or something?
Felger? Is that you? Jamaal Shared?? I liked the double 'a' touch there.

And your saying that I'm saying something I didn't say or I would have said what you are saying I said.
OK, move along, nothing to see here.

So what was your point in bringing up winning the SB when I and others were talking about improving the team? You directly responded to me saying "This team won the Super Bowl. Last I checked that's as high a goal as you can reach in the NFL. Can't improve over that, or is there a Super, Super Bowl this year?" So you're saying you just felt like writing this comment even tho it had absolutely nothing to do with the discussion? Either that, or you were trying to say that you can't improve a SB winning team.

I think I'll just leave it for you to ponder what I might have said or didn't say or could have said.
Now move along.

Sherad's stats have gone down every single year since his rookie season. He is decent but not a game changer.

Yes I know that Revis cannot be replaced but is depressing that BBs ideas to try include Chekwa and a 37 year old Newman. The fact is BB has had next to no success drafting corners, there are no good CBs left and I don't see BB trading for one. It's a pretty good guess BB is going with Arrington, Dennard, Checkwa, Butler, Ryan and Newman and will put the pressure on a 38 year old Brady to outscore their opponents.
Chekwa is a special teams signing, nothing more.

oh lord. nobody is available now. thats why i am frustrated.
It's not clear what you expected Bill to do. Matching the Jet's offer to Revis (assuming that would even be sufficient to keep him) would have destroyed the teams financial situation for this season, and for at least the next three. An instant 21 million dollar cap hit. So, you would be ok with not re-signing McCourty, and losing Hightower and/or Collins next year?

I think it's even worse than not getting better. I think the Dolphins made a huge franchise-killing mistake. The kind of mistake that is so bad you only see it every once in a blue moon in the NFL. The crazy thing is that they were making nice strides towards building a decent team. There was a lot to like down there. So what do they do? Hire Mike Tannenbaum and throw it all away with a brain dead "big splash" free agent signing. I've not heard a single knowledgeable NFL front office type that isn't mocking them for the Suh signing.
It was their biggest mistake since the Wallace contract. Bigger.

i have previously stated we did not have an elite CB on the 04 team.

i cannot argue with people who praise Belichick in a similar fashion to the way his apostles followed jesus. you guys attack people who DARE to question the godly one.

i vented in the original post about my frustrations. how we have gotten worse.
and i get personally attacked. its hillarious. you guys are pathetic. at least im getting a good laugh

If you are getting a good laugh you must be reading your own posts by mistake. You want to pretend you are making your case against a bunch of homers who don't know any better when in fact you won't find one person who thinks they are better now n than they were 6 weeks ago, the only difference is that they aren't dumb enough to think the of season is over and you apparently are. And the fact that they won't likely be able to have a secondary as good as last seasons in no way means they can't be as good a team they just need to find other ways to do so.

From what I can tell your entire premise is that they should have overpaid average players because they lost a great one, and that approach actually makes teams worse not better. Belichick is going to work all offseason to make the Patriots a better team, he doesn't just limit it to one week in March, and by the time he is done you can bet they will be one of the best teams in football because they always are. That may not be good enough for you but by the arguments you have made here it is clear that nothing would be.

To this point it's clear that the Patriots have not improved. In fact they are significantly worse than they were last season. That doesn't mean the team won't improve between now and the start of the season.

in response i only have one thing to say....HONNNNNNNKKKKKKKKK

I think our 3rd down defense will go back to being garbage. The raw PPG always understated how bad we were on defense from 10-13. For example we were 8th in scoring defense in 2010 but the worst 3rd down defense in football.

We're hearing that Easley is healthy and Mayo, as of this moment, is a Patriot.

Great point, though. Real MENSA stuff.
Healthy in march = healthy for the season for a player who is known for knee problems and relies on explosiveness

On the roster in March with a projected $10M cap hit for an aging LB coming off a major injury = on the roster for the start of the season for the cutthroat pats that will no doubt ask him to restructure

You got it all figured out, man. And you condescending tone is oh so hurtful....

A: Cap + FA = "Tough for the best to sustain excellence"

B: NEP + BB + TB = "Pats have been better than anyone else at sustaining excellence for 14 years."

C: SB XLIX Champions = "NEP"

D: A + B + C = Check back with me sometime in November and I'll tell you whether I think they've improved, stayed about the same or fallen behind where they were on February 1st.

This team won the Super Bowl. Last I checked that's as high a goal as you can reach in the NFL. Can't improve over that, or is there a Super, Super Bowl this year?

They can improve in overall talent. For instance, I think the 2004 Patriots were an improved team over the 2003 Patriots.

But just to be clear, I think it's very rare for a Super Bowl winning team to be better the next year.

I think two exceptions that stick out are the 2004 Patriots and the 2011 Packers....and the 2011 Packers didn't even win the Super Bowl.

Awwww, I made someone sad. Now I'm sad! You were condescending first, you little +&%$#@! baby.

Mayo came back 100% from his last injury, and the Pats did their homework with Easley. The point is that, at this point, the defense is better because Mayo and Easley are slated to return healthy. Your injury/contract game is just guesswork at this point. Once again, I'll trust the organization over message board chuckleheads.
