How Have We Improved

True, you said "come close" to replacing Revis. So tell me: who's nearly as good as Revis AND available? You must know, because you're mad that BB hasn't signed them.

oh lord. nobody is available now. thats why i am frustrated.

Yes, you did.

ok...when did i say we need a HOF caliber player to replace revis. i actually wrote i dont need a great player, just a very good player

Well lets look.

DE - Added Shread - improved

DT - Lost Wilfork but Easley should be back and healthy... assuming we add a decent 5th player - improved DECLINE UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE

LB - Getting Mayo back - improved HIGHTOWER MAY NOT BE READY WEEK 1

S - Same guys as last year - same

CB - Goes without saying - Massive Decline

QB - No Changes - Same

TE - Added Chandler - improved

WR - No big changes yet but Gibson/Dobson could be better back end depth. We will see - Same

OL - Need to replace/upgrade Connolly. I am sure they will - Same or improved (pending) DECLINE

RB - N/A - Going to be a lot of movement here. We will see. DECLINE

STs - White/Ebner will be healthy - Improved

So overall some spots look better right now than at the end of last year. They still have things to do though but are probably again going to be the best AFC team next year IMO.

talk about far fetched benefit of the doubt

Yes, you did.

check out post #23 in this thread....one thing you will realize as you grow up, just because the group thinks one way, doesnt mean its correct. get your facts straight pal

this is from that post #23...

(4) CB - this is the big one. im not asking for a great player like revis. but where can we even get a good one?

Sherad's stats have gone down every single year since his rookie season. He is decent but not a game changer.

BB has had next to no success drafting corners, there are no good CBs left and I don't see BB trading for one. It's a pretty good guess BB is going with Arrington, Dennard, Checkwa, Butler, Ryan and Newman and will put the pressure on a 38 year old Brady to outscore their opponents.

Sheard has had 3 or 4 different head coaches and two of them both wanted to bring along their "own guys" in Paul Kruger and Barkevious Mingo. I know a couple of Browns fans and they have always been perplexed as to why Sheard wasn't getting more playing time.

When BB drafted Jermaine Cunningham he thought he was getting a player like Jabaal Sheard. Unfortunately BB was a year too early.

You said you never "came close" to saying that. Yet, you previously said that we need to "come close" to replacing Revis.

Therefore, you did actually "come close" to saying we need to replace Revis.

The OP makes some valid point. It is very frustrating that the Jets, Bills and Dolphins have improved the roster while the pats big moves are signing JAGS like Chimdi Chekwa, Jonathan Freeny and Jabaal Sheard. Not to mention the pats lost Bush to a team that is a complete an utter mess and Johnson to what looks to be an average chargers team.

What really gets me is that the NFL is a pass first league and the pats answer for Jets and Bills receivers are Chimdi Chekwa (he has never had an INT) and Newman who will 37 when the season starts.

Its easier to upgrade crap....

"UMMMMM NOOOOO. i just want to know how we are going tocome close to replacing him"

So you're wrong there. You're wrong about no SB wins without an elite corner, too.

Keep going, you're doing great.

Sheard is a very good player, a guy who sets the edge and can finally give Nink a rest. He's pretty much the equivalent of LaFell last year, who was "game changing" enough.

It's a pretty good guess BB is going with Arrington, Dennard, Checkwa, Butler, Ryan and Newman

No, it's actually a terrible guess. As things stand now, NE is a virtual lock to either select a CB in rough one, or take two in the first two rounds.

As for Bill's history, McCourty, Dennard, Samuel, Butler, Gay, Geno and Ryan were all meaningful acquisitions who contributed as rookies. McCourty and Samuel became elite players. There's been bad, of course, but the same can be said for every other team as well.

EDIT: Scanning through the posts that have come up since I started this comment, it's clear that the idiocy isn't going to lessen any time soon. Guess it's time for the trusty "ignore thread" function.

I don't think the Dolphins have improved. Suh is a big get, but Tannehill lost Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Clay. Cameron is meh. They've jettisoned Odrick and Starks, both good players. And brent Grimes is a year older back there.

I think it's even worse than not getting better. I think the Dolphins made a huge franchise-killing mistake. The kind of mistake that is so bad you only see it every once in a blue moon in the NFL. The crazy thing is that they were making nice strides towards building a decent team. There was a lot to like down there. So what do they do? Hire Mike Tannenbaum and throw it all away with a brain dead "big splash" free agent signing. I've not heard a single knowledgeable NFL front office type that isn't mocking them for the Suh signing.

I think i've started seeing thing that aren't there. Because I could swear that we won the super bowl this year. I must be mistaken because judging from all the posts on this forum this team sucks and BB have no idea what he's doing.

How have we improved?

I think the answer simply is "we have not", but that doesn't mean we are bad team. It's natural for Super Bowl champions to suffer from some regression. Everyone else is picking away at the champs. Players who would be JAGs on other teams get signed from the champs due to their increased exposure and inevitable overvalue.

It's extremely rare to have a SB champ actually get better the next year (2004 was the exception when we added Corey Dillon).

So while we may not enter the season with as good of a team on paper as we did last year, I'm sure we'll be good enough to compete for a title.

Looks like people are drowning their sorrows in green beer today.

It is March 17th folks. Opening Day is 6 months from now.

If recent history is any lesson, we don't even have to worry until about the fifth game of the regular season.

Good idea. If only there was a way to mass mute all of these "I know better than BB" threads, this board might actually be readable again.

I jumped for joy when they hired Tannenbaum.

If you want a good cap situation to turn bad, hire him.

How have "we" improved over the team that just won the Super Bowl? Really?

Call me crazy, but I'd like to wait until after the last pre-season game to start worrying about the 2015 Patriots. Let the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins declare themselves off season/pre-season champions.

Can/should people point to the youngsters gaining experience as a reason for our team getting better? I mean, isn't that the expectation of every team? I don't think we should use this as a reason to set ourselves apart from other teams.

Having key players coming back from injury? Ok, I'll buy that one (not every team has a high caliber player like Mayo coming back from injury).

so now coming close to replacing someone means a Hall of Fame player? haha ok
