well, if Johnson signs elsewhere there is still a pretty decent WR market out there

Dwayne bowe, Greg Jennings, reggie wayne, denarious Moore, Michael crabtree

The WR geeks are in full flower with Stevie Johnson, because they think all problems can be answered by getting another WR

Johnson is a good NFL WR, but there are a million Stevie Johnson's in the NFL. In fact, contrarily to the WR geeks' perception, the Pats actually have a few on the roster right now. Why Johnson would even want to be here makes me wonder about the credibility of the original report. I've read that Johnson gives us the proverbial "downfield threat", yet I've also read that he doesn't have exceptional downfield speed. Which one is true?

BTW- I'm tired of all the Dobson bashing. It sounds so familiar to the recent Edelman bashing....the recent Amendola bashing,.....the recent Hightower bashing, etc, etc, ETC! I have to wonder what it is that gets some people off, when they take pleasure in disparaging athletes.

anyone else a little surprised BB seems so intent on adding another quality WR?..especially after signing gibson and dobson a year older. Is it simply trying to score more after losing our cbs?

No it's not surprising. While Amendola came on late BB has seen for two straight seasons he isn't the most dependable player and that for much of the season Pats had only 2 WR. What if Amendola slumps and Dobson and Tyms make no progress and LaFell or Edelman gets an injury that keeps them out for multiple games?

I think the Pats should just stop drafting WRs because the outcome is not too good

Why do people say this? Wouldn't the better course of action be to correct the errors rather than avoid the position altogether? Prior to drafting Gronk and Aperp, the Patriots had taken Graham, Watson in the first round, and then had the double miss of Wendys and Mills at 3/4 in 2006. Clearly they should have stopped selecting TEs, right?

Questioning if Dobson will ever work out and saying you can't except him to make some kind of jump to even the #3 WR when he couldn't get on the field last year isn't bashing him, it's stating facts.

I'm pretty sure not a single person has actually said this.

Ya no-one has said that. The opinion is it doesn't hurt to improve your WR corp. People are completely forgetting how the Pats amazingly got by with 2 WR for much of the season and even then it took a third WR (Amendola) to help win the SB.

I don't think he had the work ethic to improve at least from what the rumors lent. When he finally got his chance when lafell got banged up he strained his hammy on his first snap. That would lend me to believe he didn't keep himself in football shape

I don't see where adding competition hurts the WR unit at all. As long as there is minimal guaranteed money it can't hurt the team in any way and pushes every other receiver to work harder.

I hope Gibson can return to form, I liked his game a couple years back. A healthy Gibson in the mix with Edelman, LaFell, Amendola and (hopefully) Johnson would be a pretty nice receiving corps.

If you can sign players on the cheap without much up front or training camp bonuses, then you sign just about any decent veteran you can get your hands on. Why? Because that's a body in camp that might surprise you.

Not getting what your point is. So the Pats shouldn't sign a WR that if he came in and picked up the system could be the #2 WR because they've done ok since Moss left?

You realize the year Moss left was Gronk's rookie season, right? Just trying to remind you that while Moss did leave they had the guy that is the best TE currently in the game.

???????????

No. I feel the pats shouldn't be afraid of signing stevie johnson. I was responding to the guy who said he wasn't excited about him because he wasn't randy moss. I merely responded they don't need a randy moss type player to win another title.

Sheesh, some of you need to read before jumping on somone's theoat.

Why can't it help to have Stevie if we can get him? Why can't it help to have another upgrade on offense?

I'm in favor of the signing. My point is that he can still be effective even if he's not randy moss.

Johnson is going to announce his choice this morning, right?.

i want stevie here, but it's not the end of the world if he goes elsewhere.

Patfanken Cousin,
Hey I admit it. I was one of those that was a Hightower basher. I can take that stupid error bullet. My bad. Kid can play. Some I (we on this forum) have pegged talent right, some (at least those who admit it) pegged some wrong.
I think Johnson might be a fit. At 6'2" and a route runner he might be a slight step up from Amendola, but he is fairly reliable and all the talent in the world can't keep Dobson on the field. Amendola has been hurt on and off through his career. JE plays with reckless abandon. Johnson (or WR of choice) might wind up with more playing time here than some think.
I don't want to count on Dobson to be a 16 gamer. In fact if they can find a Team that use a kid with "potential" (a dangerous word) and a big WR like the Browns, I would swap him for an emerging CB talent like Pierre Desir even up.....now. Cleveland has two decent starting CBs signing Tramon Williams (Pats?) and a first round pick Justin Gilbert from last year they need to develop. Desir played four games at the end of the year and was darn good. HE is also long.

Why is it that the only time someone chose us over another team this year itwas a guy who plays a position we were just fine at? I like Scott Chandler but I can't say he fills any need.. meh.
What? Maybe you didn't pay attention to this McD retread:

Any form of possible competition for this hack is filling a need. Not to mention he is the closest thing to a suitable Gronk replacement we could realistically expect to sign.
