Stevie Johnson likely to sign with Pats [3/17 update: signs w/ San Diego]

Well if we sign him I agree doesn't look good for Dobson I read he's working very hard and determined would like to see him get a fair shot in training camp regardless

No, there are some.
But, speaking as someone who grew up in Boston & moved to San Diego in 1975, there are so many hot chicks in SD that they (as a rule) don't run around with attitudes. Beautiful, fun, athletic & approachable.

Supply & demand.

By the way, for those who think that he'll take the SD offer in order to be close to family (who are in San Fran area), do people move to Boston to be near their family who lives in Richmond, VA?? (SD-SanFran = 500 mi. Foxboro - Richmond = 535 mi).

He may well take the SD offer, but it won't be to be near the outlaws.

Now, "the weather" is a convincing argument.
That (& the hot chicks) did it for me...
Try taking a walk down Boston's financial district during lunch on a weekday sometime.

I don't see the logic in this potential signing either for him OR the Pats. What skill set does be bring that isn't already here except experience. And for him, why come here to be "just another guy" when you can go elsewhere and be at worst the third option.

Here, who knows if he even makes the team. He wouldn't be the first vett "brand name" WR to come here and not make it out of TC. It makes no sense for him to come here. Besides whatever money they have targeted for him could be better used on a CB or DT

I'm not a fan but he does provide a downfield threat, depth, and challenges the younger guys for a roster spot. That said I really think he will choose SD for targets.

Still seeing the late push talk. To me that sounds like hes going to San Diego.

Get er done. He will put up numbers with Brady, if he's on his game he will become a favorite here. Most likely scenario is he is using us to squeeze more cash out of another team.

BB sometimes get players with a good rookie season and then burried in the depth chart of other teams. Some other coaches might take a shot on reclamation projects too, I wonder if BB can get a 6th for Dobston;
That is an interesting angle. Seeing that Dobson has little special teams value, they could trade him and save ~$500k on the 2015 cap. If they cut him after June 1, they save $716k and only have approx $218k in dead money. Is having $$216k in cap space worth less or more than a 6th rounder?

The other question is what would Johnson's deal look like?

Belichick must really want him.
I agree San Diego makes sense when will we have official word so we can move on like we did from Reggie Bush, CJ Spiller, Percy Harvin.
If we are making a late push its because he doesn't want to relocate and we are sweetening the deal.

I really don't get all the obsession over this douche bag.

Tall, explosive receiver who has had drop concerns but also had flourished against the best corner in the game?

O yea, and hes a cheaper solution. What is not to like?

Johnson will sign with the chargers.

As for Dobson: He is awful and if he is here past week 8 I will be shocked.

People just want the Pats to do something.

True, but that's just impatience. I have been seeing guys I want them to sign go elsewhere and that is frustrating but when you see the deals they are signing you understand why. 21 million for Andre Johnson? 32 million for Chris Culliver? That is to much for those players and I don't blame the Patriots for passing on them and many others who are simply getting money thrown at them by desperate teams.

The Patriots have some obvious needs but I respect the restraint they are showing and have confidence in them to address them before the season starts, even though I realize they cannot get every unit to the level it was at last season they will find ways to improve the team to adjust for that? What you don't want is to be in the position the Dolphins have been in this off season, releasing recent free agent signings and piling up dead money so you can sign the shiney new high priced toys.

I'm not intrigued with his personality but fact is this guy is true WR1 talent when motivated. Im laughing at people calling him depth, it's a reason NE is making a push for him. With the loss of key defensive guys we will need to up our offense and Stevie will help with this cause. Still think he chooses SD though.

Is the Johnson news a hunch or a fact?

Hunch. I think he will want to go to a warm weather city where he can get more receptions. Probably does not help when it is reported that the pats were making a late push for him either. That tells me he is leaning towards the Chargers.

he did catch a go ahead TD pass once with 2 minutes left in the Super Bowl.

My point is we don't need a superstar receiver like moss or calvin johnson to achieve our goal.
