@NEPD_Loyko: According to @UTgehlken #Patriots made a late "financial push" for Stevie Johnson.. trying to sway his decision.

If true, that doesn't exactly sound good for Aaron Dobson in my opinion.

If Johnson is signed tomorrow, that would give us a fairly solid 1-4 corps, with a handful of "others" in the mix for competition if there's a WR5 aside from Slater. This group would include any potential PS candidates and eventual cuts/camp fodder like Tyms, Boyce, Gibson, Dobson, and Dorsey.

While it's always possible that one of those five could make it, the odds wouldn't be looking too hot for anyone aside from:

Edelman
LaFell
Amendola
Johnson
Slater

I hope we get Stevie

Isn't he like the one guy Revis sort of struggled with?

Stevie is more accomplished and thus will command a bigger market in FA. But to me, Dobson has a higher ceiling which he showed before he got hurt his rookie year. Call me a homer, but I'd rather him get reps. It's not like our receiving corps was lacking last year that we need to bring in another big salary especially since Stevie's skillset isn't going to transform this offense.

There's not much doubt that we've lacked a true outside threat who can offer anything in a downfield role, where he can command attention from a safety every now and then, and help to open things up underneath.

Considering the fact that they've brought in Brandon Gibson, Ken Dorsey, and now have gone after a couple of bigger named WRs (Harvin, Johnson), it wouldn't seem as though anyone in the front office is holding their breath that Dobson simply needs more reps.

not getting excited about stevie. its not like he's the 2nd coming of moss.

Not excited about this possibility. Johnson seems like an unmotivated distraction.

The hate on this board on Brian Tyms is kind of ridiculous we are on a Patriots fan forum why do people gotta hate on the optimism of fellow Patriots fans. Never mind that some time ago there use to be a no name, special teamer who earned his way onto the field and IMO is one of the better WRs to have played for the Patriots in the last 20 years... Troy Brown. Never know Tyms could be the next Troy Brown. Bellichick keeps him around or sees something in him to keep him on the roster.

Well, San Diego has nice weather and hot chicks; but New England has a water supply and a legit shot at a Championship.

So there's no hot chicks in New England?

No, there are some.
But, speaking as someone who grew up in Boston & moved to San Diego in 1975, there are so many hot chicks in SD that they (as a rule) don't run around with attitudes. Beautiful, fun, athletic & approachable.

Supply & demand.

By the way, for those who think that he'll take the SD offer in order to be close to family (who are in San Fran area), do people move to Boston to be near their family who lives in Richmond, VA?? (SD-SanFran = 500 mi. Foxboro - Richmond = 535 mi).

He may well take the SD offer, but it won't be to be near the outlaws.

Now, "the weather" is a convincing argument.
That (& the hot chicks) did it for me...

Not great but provides depth at the WR spot.

The choice will probably come down to playing time.

Royal is gone. Gates is going on 35. Floyd is going on 34. It's Keenan Allen at WR right now. Thats it.

Johnson would see about 100 targets next year in SD. Here, he would see 1/2 that- maybe.

Great route runner. Average speed at best. Sounds like a Pats player. The only deal breaker is he never came back from injury---Pats only sign players that are recovering from major physical ailments.

that is a good point especially since we also signed Chandler who is a pass catching TE who will see the field a lot IMO. I think the Pats should just stop drafting WRs because the outcome is not too good.

BB sometimes get players with a good rookie season and then burried in the depth chart of other teams. Some other coaches might take a shot on reclamation projects too, I wonder if BB can get a 6th for Dobston;

I don't see the logic in this potential signing either for him OR the Pats. What skill set does be bring that isn't already here except experience. And for him, why come here to be "just another guy" when you can go elsewhere and be at worst the third option.

Here, who knows if he even makes the team. He wouldn't be the first vett "brand name" WR to come here and not make it out of TC. It makes no sense for him to come here. Besides whatever money they have targeted for him could be better used on a CB or DT

People just want the Pats to do something.
