this Free agency has been a disaster so far. imagine if we let McCourty go to the eagles. Apparently we are going to keep the 12+million in cap space and not spend any of it...

but, just because he hasn't signed there doesn't mean he wont

It's too bad we won't be "free agency winners" once again, which usually guarantees you will disappointed by the end of the season. Maybe next year we will pay $20M a year and over $60M guaranteed for a defensive tackle with character concerns while about eight of our players walk away to other teams. Or, we could spend $30M on three cornerbacks, two of whom are over 30, with extreme player-friendly deals that are impossible to walk away from because of their structure. Finally, we could tone it down a little, find a declining running back coming off a down year who is unhappy despite a bloated contract, tear up the contract, give him much, much more money, then find the biggest turd WR in the NFL and give him $6M in guaranteed money with no incentives (a guy who has now been dropped from three organizations for his attitude), and finally we can pay an offensive guard who was kicked out of football for being such a dink that even tough NFL players unanimously thought he crossed the line.

And then we can join the awesomeness that is the rest of the AFC East, resting on their laurels right now as pundit after pundit praises them for their aggressive push to take over the division.

The sad thing is that the local media speculated about Wilfork and Johnson just like all of us.

FWIW, much of your post is off base. You'd probably be happier with the results of FA if you had accurate information.

The Patriots were free agency winners last year. Deriding such a thing now seems a bit silly, at the very least.

Shorts is signed. He'll be in Houston, with Big Vince.

Damn didn't see that......and a really good deal too for Houston

Vince might not sign with them now....either Ratbirds(ugh makes me physically ill) or back home with us

Oh well swing and a miss on Stevie.....

I've noticed when the Pats are aggressive in FA and Drafts good things follow because they know when and where to be so.......they miss on a couple moves but generally the body of work shows on Sunday

You all won't like this but we are being pretty cheap this year in FA.

Words like "cheap", "aggressive", and "winning" don't mean anything in free agency. Every deal is an investment and whether one "wins" will only be determined after the return on investment has been revealed.

The Patriots have not found any players who they feel are worth a sizeable financial investment thus far and likely would rather invest the money is a larger quantity of players at lower costs, or keep the money for potential deal later in free agency or the preseason. That's a strategy based on how they have evaluated the market and evaluated the available players to-date. It may change.

Wouldn't be surprised if its a multi-year deal that really is a one year deal. Pats have gotten good at signing those.

Like with most signings especially at this stage in the offseason, I would bet the numbers will be higher than what we want, but appropriate upon further reflection.

There's no reason the team wouldn't want a cheap 2nd or 3rd year tacked on, to spread out any signing bonus and hold onto him if he turns out to be okay

I really dislike this NBCdiana chick, what an *******. Shouldn't be working in sports (always wrong) and shouldn't be tweeting (always wrong). Hell Incarcerated Bob is more reliable.

gotta come up for air once in a while......the tide comes in, the tide goes out

the pats will never be confused with the saints

Whether I like it is not relevant. Whether it is accurate or not is.

She's been right most of the time.

@NBCdianna: No problems or issues between Stevie Johnson & the Patriots. The receiver will decide between the Chargers & the Patriots per sources

Not loving our chances. He's from California and can play closer to home, still with a good QB.

Seriously, they really jump all over twitter posts for nit-wit, non important tweeters who somehow get a job in sports with NBC. She's a moron, another to add to the ****-list like that other moron PatriotsSB50.
