Stevie Johnson likely to sign with Pats [3/17 update: signs w/ San Diego]

Will probably be a 1 year prove it deal with some incentives (or a 2 year deal which in actuality is just 1 year).

I'd say about 2M +1M in incentives.

Assuming the signing occurs...at a minimum this will make for some great training camp battles.

This is so hard to judge without seeing how he does with Brady. Some receivers get it almost immediately and the ones that don't rarely turn out well for them regardless of talent.

Johnson seems to be the sort of wideout Brady likes: quick-twitch, gets separation, runs good routes.

She is working on a story on how the Pats are trading Cleveland for Joe Haden. So don't hold your breath for confirmation.

I'd prefer if the Pats could trade Cleveland for the JEST. :p

Or I'd settle for just flat out trading Cleveland for, say, London. :D

I really like Stevie. I think his game resembles Ochocinco's in some ways. Let's hope he finds more success here if that's where he lands.

Don't let him leave without signing Bill!

Think I remember a quip of him saying he hoped it got bombed or some such nonsense.

He said:

On April 3, Johnson tweeted, “War is nothing to be played with. I apologize North Korea .... but if ya’ll do bomb 1st... Bomb Foxboro, Mass. Sincerely, #BillsMafia."

So I'm pretty sure he sincerely wanted people to die, hates Boston and freedom and probably is a communist.

One thing that is certain. The Pats are going large with their receiving corp. This is the biggest receiving corp they have had under Belichick. They rarely have one receiver over 6 feet. Now they have three (Johnson, LaFell, Gibson). Their to two TEs are over 6'6" (with a 6'4" Tim Wright likely as the #3 TE).

Opposing teams better have some big DBs. Imagine a five receiver set with JoJo LaFell, Stevie Johnson, Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler, and Julian Edelman? We're gonna have to start calling Brady, Jump Ball Tom....

I will never consider a WR from outside the organization a lock to overtake anyone who already has Brady's timing and trust. Seen that too many times.

If NE signs Johnson Tyms will be a serious longshot be on the roster.

Add in Amendola and Wright, and you've got the pieces for non-stop blur of different formations. Quick guys at any position. Tall guys at any position. Big guys at any position. Rotate 'em constant ly and stress the bejezus out of defenses.

Just need a Vereen replacement and this offense will SHATTER records both in the regular season and in the playoffs.

@evansilva: Where Stevie Johnson wins makes him perfect fit in #Patriots O. Still on right side of 30. Classic buy-low move by NE.

Not 100% sold in this possible signing. Think he is overrated and an idiot who runs his mouth off with immature ****. Basically ochostinko 2.0 with better potential.
