Woodhead vs Vereen - Who is better?

Vereen was good in the role that he was in, but I'll say I was surprised he didn't take a larger role.

After all, he exploded in the playoff game against Houston in 2012. I feel like that was his coming out party. Then he runs for 100 yards in the opener in Buffalo in 2013. Unfortuantely for him he suffers a hand injury and doesn't return until later in the season. When he does return, he becomes one of Brady's favorite targets without Gronk.

In 2014 when Ridley went down I expected Vereen to have a much bigger role but instead they went to guys like Gray and Blount. His body type doesn't seem too different from Ridley, why couldn't he be a true runner?

Vereen came up big in the superbowl/playoffs so have to give him the edge.

Vereen had an insane Super Bowl - he had a few unbelievable plays.

I still want to see him and Brady get on the same page with that wheel route. I think they ran that 8 times in the last three years and probably went 1 for 7 on it.

You're aware that Vereen does not play for the Patriots, right?

What are you talking about the Patriots have a very important decision to make between keeping either Woodhead or Vareen and they have to make it before free agency hits in a month. They obviously can't keep both but If they do lose out they could trade up to the top of the draft and take Tent Richardson, he going to be a stud.

I was going to add to the thread, but after this, there's nothing left to say

Woodhead was an all around better player, I also don't understand those saying Vereen is more talented.

Woodhead is a far superior athlete he's just smaller.

Woodhead vs Vereen

40 Yard Dash
4.38 vs 4.55

10 Yard Split
1.44 vs 1.62

Vertical Jump
38in vs 34in

Broad Jump
10'1" vs 9'7"

Bench Press
20 reps vs 31 reps

It's really not close who the better athlete and player is, I'm thankful for all Vereen has given us, but it really was a mistake letting Woodhead go for 1.75m/yr or whatever the deal was.

I also fully understand that having both players was redundant given Vereen on a rookie deal.

If we don't find a strong pass catching RB for far less than what Vereen signed for expect to get to know James White next season, otherwise we would have never let Vereen walk out the door.

Nice post, don't suppose you have James White's numbers handy? I'll look them up when I get home but I'm curious how he compares athletically to Vereen and Woodhead

I give you the Manning vs. Brady argument:

Vereen - 1 ring
Woodhead - 0 rings

Nuff Said.

(In actuality I think Woodhead is the better player but Vereen came up so big in the SB I have nothing but appreciation for the guy.)

To this point in their respective careers, Woodhead has been much the better player. Vereen's younger, however, and he still has growth potential.

that would mean that mike mamula and vernon golston were better than jared allen or dwight freeney

vereen was much more effective.......woodhead was always involved, but never a difference maker

I don't know how Woodhead wasn't a difference maker. Longer runs, more over 20, more yards, better ypc, more scoring plays, more first downs, and these are only counting his NEP years.

Your comparison of Gholston to Allen would make perfect sense had Woodhead not been a totally more effective player as well as a better athlete.

Agree on this, Woodhead > Vereen in about every aspect so far but that doesn't mean Vereen can't be as good in a larger role.

Ivan disagreed with it, not disliked it. You do understand the difference right?

You are coming across like a troublemaker.

My apologies. I'm a result of bad upbringing and failing public education.

Dislike, disagree don't see much difference. Two points were made in B6's post: Woody's 2013 stats and Vereen had a few high profile drops. I assume that a terse post making two specific points that is disagreed with or disliked, take your pick, means the stats are wrong or Vereen didn't have high profile drops.
In my rush to be a troublemaker I was also looking to find out which one is wrong.
And 76 is a lot, trouble or not.

I dont know about the 76 or whatever that is. Dislikes are recorded as a negative against the poster. Disagrees are not. There is a difference, not that any of that matters in the grand scheme of things.

Some people here are paranoid. Some people here deserve criticism. My point was just to point out there is a difference.

he went down faster than vereen ever did. and vereen was 10x the pass pro

none of it means much........even with a young woodhead, they decided to use a 2nd rounder the same position. woodhead was the exact same guy when he left as he was when he showed up........a tertiary option and a maxed out guy that a slot corner could level

The best thing about losing Vereen in free agency is I don't have to see some of our own fans spelling his name wrong anymore. Or at least not as much now. You'd figure after 4 years Vereen would at least be able to have his name spelled correctly?

Slight edge to woody as the better ball carrier and felt he was more reliable hands / converting 3rd downs. Vereens not far behind though and I still feel it was the correct move letting woody walk years ago. Vereen had the higher ceiling, showed flashes of it in 2012 and while woody does have the edge now imo, it's not by much. Certainly worth the risk, unfortunately Shane never quite did become that impact player but he was reliable when called upon.

Both were great in their roles here. Both are easily replaceable pieces.

Any proof of this]

You obviously didn't watch Danny in pass pro

proof? it's plain as day when you watch unless you have some sort of binky syndrome

no....obviously I did....little Danny got blown up all the time.......get out of the guys underwear.....I'm not even a vereen fan
