Sign the Beast XLV: Pats targeting WR Stevie Johnson? [3/17 update: signs w/ Chargers]

I'd be okay with it. They have money to burn.

We all want a G, DT OG and CB. They could probably afford the best current FA at each position and with a Mayo and Solder restructure still be under the cap.

An offense with Edelman, Johnson, LaFell, Gronk and Chandler is loaded. Add a third-down back like Pierre Thomas and that's a significant improvement over the Super Bowl-winning offense IMO. I know the secondary seems destined to be somewhat weak, but if they build up the D-line just a bit more and improve at the Guard positions, via the draft or FA, I think that weakness is mostly off-set.

Stevie Johnson on twitter was beckoning the Jets to call him and get the band back together with Fitzpatrick and Gailey.
He is using us to up his contract if he leaves New England with out a deal he is a green Bean and We will have to draft 3 cornerbacks.
Its kind of annoying people are spurning the world champs for also rans.
Very interesting Bowe or Crabtree would be good but would really like Stevie Johnson.

SJ would be a good signing as a sub package receiver if the price is right.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he's just using us.

Isn't this the same guy who blamed God for him dropping a winning TD pass and isn't he also the same guy that wanted North Korea to bomb Foxboro?
No thanks, he seems like a total dipsh*t

The Patriots have lost cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Jets. So it makes sense that the Patriots would be interested in a receiver who traditionally has had good luck against Revis.

PFT has confirmed multiple reports that Johnson will visit the Patriots on Monday.

He's a total dipshit. Class a doofus. He can ball though.

Wonder if he'll wear protective gear just in case North Korea follows through on his twitter recommendation.

They better not let him leave without a contract.

I've seen him give Revis fits, not just burn him.....but embarrass him consistently throughout the entire game.

Personality-wise, he reminds me of Richard Sherman, seems like a douche, but listen to him talk outside of the arena, and he seems like a really smart, decent guy. Here's an interview with him, and notice how he talks about how much he wants to win. Hopefully he means that and signs with the Pats.

There is no way he signs here. 1, He is already sending out text hints that he wants to be a Jet. 2. He has serious maturity issues. 3. He is not smart enough to grasp the Pats offense. Prediction he will be in and out of the razor after a brief meeting and Bill saying thanks for stopping by. Will be a Jet by Tuesday.

Why does everyone say receivers aren't smart enough to grasp the Pat's offense, it's not like Lafell is a Rhodes Scholar, and he seemed to have no issues figuring it out. Just because the Pats offense is somewhat difficult to pick up, doesn't mean the rest of the NFL has EASY offenses to figure out, I'm sure there are some offenses probably just as difficult to learn, and people learn it.

The difference between the Lafell and Johnson is Lafell came in and dedicated himself to learning the offense inside and out. It showed that he had a grasp of the offense. Johnson has had problems on both teams he has been on. He wore out his welcome quick in San Francisco. He also had the rep in Buffalo of freelancing routes. Can you imagine him doing that to Brady. He is not the type of player that will succeed with the PATs.

First thing I look for in a potential Patriot is their position on North Corea.

He is known to be an excellent route runner. That by definition is understanding the playbook.
