I would love to bring Tillman in! I didn't even know he was a FA. There are a few names on there that I wouldn't mind bringing in... The market isn't quite as barren as I thought.

Who else do you like on the list? I don't see anyone, although I suppose Tillman could be a possibility.

Forget it.

Tillman is 34 years old and is primarily a Tampa 2 cover cornerback.

Time to focus on the 2015 NFL Draft.

I highly doubt we will draft a player who would make an immediate impact and improve our situation at CB, based on our prior drafting and the learning curve for the position. Devin McCourty in 2010 is the exception, but there are so many examples otherwise. I am thinking the Patriots will hope for one of those veteran training camp cuts or possibly swing a trade during that time. It seems like some teams at that point seem to realize their team isn't as good as they'd hoped and are willing to part with some key players for draft picks.

I think it was smart of the Patriots to pretty much avoid the free agency market at the CB position. Revis is probably the only player who could reasonably justify the price tag (although obviously too rich for the Pats). Byron Maxwell isn't even a top 20 corner, maybe not even top 40, and he got a monster deal. There are a lot of guys on there that are over 30 as well. Not a good year for impact corners, although maybe they'll buy low on a couple of them and see if someone fits in well to their system. A lot of other teams would have panicked after losing Revis and Browner and gone after someone to save face, but the Patriots again stick with their disciplined approach not to overpay no matter the circumstances.

Corners are the least NFL ready players in the game. The draft will not help that position this season.

Why aren't the pats even hosting tramon williams or any other veteran CB? Are they just waiting for the prices on some of them to drop? Draft? Baffling, but I trust BB.
Tramon Williams is overrated and wants to be overpaid.

http://totalpackers.com/2015/03/10/tramon-williams-visiting-saints/

Although the Packers have offered Williams a deal (two years, $8 million), he has rejected it. Word is, Tramon wants a third year and a good deal of guaranteed money.

Morris Claiborne is a player I wouldn't mind seeing the Patriots trade for. He could be a Talib type of reclamation project.

Was he playing a zone system as a CB better suited to cover man like Revis in Tampa Bay?

I'm not that sure the Wonderlic has any application to sport. In my sporting ventures, I've come across some generally slow folk but get them talking about a sport they're interested in or play to a high level and they turn into Nikola Tesla. Hell, if the Wonderlic was transferable to football, Fitzmagic would be Brady.

I agree with you completely. There are some people who are bad students, process info slowly and stress out over tests but excel in other areas of life- especially sports.

You must admit, a 4 is downright awful. He claims that he blew off the test which is worse.

Yea...Fitzpatrick. He got something like a 49. Sheesh..

Like people say drafting a corner to make an impact is tough and at this point I believe BB is is not going to sign any corners. Looks to me pats going to go with they have and are back to the days of trying to outscore teams.

I'm stuck watching the Cboys just about every week due to my wife's rooting interests, and I think Morris Claiborne about sucks. I wouldn't be interested under any circumstance.

On top of that, he's currently under contract. He's only played 3 years on a possible 5 year deal. I wouldn't see any reason for DAL to cut him on a cheap, rookie deal, especially after they traded up to get him at #6 overall.

They may not end up picking up his 5th year option for 2016, but I don't understand why he's even getting mentioned right now? I suppose the assumption is that he's somehow on the cutting block, but I don't think that's the case.

First of all my condolences with Tony Romo & Cowboys, things we do for love huh?! lol j/kn As for MC I'm with you, I think ship has sailed with some quality FAs and he isn't our answer. We're not doomed yet but this time of year when I'm ready to jump off Throggsneck Bridge with BB then regular season come and we're in Playoffs in AFCCG or SB and winning it! But CB MUST be addressed, both our starting CBs are gone. Revis HUGE loss for what we needed to do and Browner with him was no slouch.

He could trade for one.

I guess I should have been more specific, as I don't think there are any #1 corners left, but there are some solid guys here. My top pick would be Mathis on a one or two year deal, he played very well last year and hopefully he could be a stopgap for one more year while the team's young guys and any drafted CBs developed. Could be hard to rely on a guy his age though. Otherwise, I would be interested in Tramon Williams, Tarell Brown and Charles Tillman but it sounds like Williams will be too expensive. Any one of these guys would provide veteran depth though which I think is somewhat of a need.

They'll pick up a veteran but I really think that they are going for a CB in Rd1 or Rd2.

There is no way they are going with just Ryan, Butler, Dennard or Chimdi as the outside CBs No way.

I do too, I just have concern with having basically the entire CB group so young that they are all still on rookie deals... McCourty, and to some extent Chung, can provide some leadership, but I would feel more comfortable with a vet in the mix too.

I really haven't heard anyone talk about Tarell Brown but I like him the more I read up on him. I see he had a contract dispute with the 49ers two years ago, though. So who knows.

Can't settle with what we have, I have flashbacks of recent years past with our DBs. What is so frustrating to me is with Revis, Browner in mix we were good for next couple/few years with Mac and our young DBs. Maybe through a trade we can find someone.

Isn't Chimdi really a STer dressed up in cornerback gear?

Yes and no. We'll see if there's life after week 1 free agency. You're leaving out the possibility that rather than go for coverage sacks, this year the hand we're dealt will be looking for pressure up-front to lead to good secondary stats despite a dropoff in talent there. Other than the long-shot concept of "everybody we have suddenly gets better" in the secondary, move thus far are toward a little better pressure up front.

By the way, we'll be adding the return of Mayo to the mix, unless we deal him away... I like our LBs better than any time since the Johnson/McGinnest/Bruschi days.

Shutting down half the field certainly opened things up for the rest of the D... But it looks like the best way to deal with the (always) non-ideal situation this year will be to protect that secondary with pressure up front (as of 1 week into free agency.)

Lots of time between now and September, right?

FWIW, here's a quote from a guy I like on twitter quoting an agent saying what the Patriots told him. This isn't exactly breaking news. For those who don't speak twitter, the bolded part is the quote from the agent :

Agent Today, 'Talking Pats FA Corner I Rep, flat out told me they're going more zone to protect CBs so didn't like my guy at our number.'
