The Why Not? Trades

That has to be the worst trade proposition from the Patriots' perspective I've seen in...maybe ever.
I don't even think Clowney is going to be ready to play until 2016. I wouldn't trade the #32 pick on its own for Clowney. His health is a major concern.

Dont'a Hightower for Jason McCourty...straight up. I know what your thinking...no way no how...not Dont'a. Well...Mayo is coming back and I would bet the duo of Devin and Jason would be outstanding. Hey this thread started off whacked....so why not. Bill hasnt pulled the trigger. He's got something up that hoodie.

I don't think any team would give up anything for Clowney right now

Mayo for Jason straight up. Hightower has the makings of an All-Pro and is better than Mayo ever can be,

That's what I was going to suggest 1st...but Mayo is 29 and coming off major surgery...Jason is 27. I don't think they are going to want a player that old that may not be back to 100% in 2015...or ever.

We could start with Mayo...if they don't like it...then we replace him with Hightower.

Since we are dreaming....

1. Mayo (if push comes to shove Dennard as well) and our 2nd pick for Jason McCourty. Yes he is that good.

2. Offer a 3rd and Amendola to saints for CB Keenan Lewis.

3. Then we trade our first pick for early 2nd round and a 3rd. Boom we got the players and our picks back. We trade back anyway.

4. Someone go and interview Rex after that.

Its gonna be a long offseason..

Let a hundred flowers bloom, and remember there are pros actually making these decisions :)

All of whom have done this before, with very good success...

It's the cross we bear as Pats fans... we can't say "if stoopid Bill Belichick would just do what I say we would win mo better..." But oddly enough sometimes some of us still do... it's just in the fan paradigm.

Living down here near Washington, that's a valid way to look at what's going on on this team, and on many other teams... in fact, most teams. Not the Pats though, and certain other perennially competitive teams.

Agreed. Their is really no place for that kind of talk in a Patriots Forum.

It is difficult being a Pats Fan in March or around the draft, it gets easier in December, January and February...

OTOH it is easy to be the "Free Agency Champions" in NY and Buffalo in March.. they just had their superbowl.

LOL... I never said all that. I mean, we'd get bored and the forum would go broke. It's just the depressing fact of the matter that unlike the majority of fan bases... well, we don't know better, and what's more, we know that we don't know better.

But hell, it's a long time to September and you can only sing "kumbayah" so many times.

Nice problem to have though :)

They need to trade for keenan lewis NOW. Guys being shopped by the saints, wants out and has a very cheap price tag.

Very good CB, a Talib clone in many ways. It's almost too obvious given our needs.
If it does happen, it won't happen until after June 1. He restructured his contract and it would cost New Orleans $2 million in dead cap if they trade him now.If they do it after June first, they save $2.5 million this year and push the dead money to 2016. considering how they are so far in cap hell now, they are tossing everything overboard, so you may get your wish in 2.5 months......

I totally do not understand that nuance of the league year, I just know that every year there is at least another "round" starting in the summer, I guess on 6/1... Remind me, do I have that right? Is there a round of "June 1 cuts"?

IIRC cuts can be made earlier and considered as a "post-June 1" for cap purposes to give the player the opportunity to sign on with another team and not be penalized. I don't believe this applies to trades though, hence the trade having to wait until June 1. This is especially true as Saints have huge numbers to cut to get under the cap.. Kicking the can down the road finally came to a dead end for them..

Thank you... and regarding the Saints, while I join Patriots Nation in mourning the loss of 1-year rental Revis... quite the cautionary tale

I see that DWToys is at it again.. This has become an annual thing for him to come on and post a bunch of idiotic crap that ignores the reality of the salary cap..

How about Joe Haden for Logan Ryan and a conditional 6th round pick? Are we giving up too much? Perhaps we can throw in Joe Vellano, and the Browns will agree to pay 75% of Haden's salary?
