Bush to 49ers

not sure that's true, pats don't have a lot of money to spend right now.

I wouldn't be so sure. Ever since Faulk's injury cost NE the 2006 AFCCG, Bill has had at least two on the roster every year. I bet NE has already discussed multi-million dollar contracts with a few guys only to see them get better offers elsewhere. It happens.

Well, the trend is the history. They didn't pay Woodhead. They didn't pay Vereen. This year they have been linked to a number of high-quality players that have decided to join other teams.

I don't disagree with their philosophy. I just think its true.

Kept McCourty
Kept Gostkowski
Signed Sheard, (likely) upgrade at PR
Signed Chandler, (likely) upgrade at TE
Brought in needed competition for the LS

Those are all plus moves. I grant you that the non-move on Revis still outweighs everything else.
Happy about McCourty and Gostkowski being back, but I'm iffy on their contracts. I understand the Patriots *had* to pay them that much to keep them, but it doesn't change the fact that they're pretty overpaid right now.

I understand it's early March and no time to panic, but I'm not one of those people shrugging off the moves the rest of the AFC East has made. I'm getting a little anxious.

Vereen barely played because he got hurt. The plan was obviously to work him in early. And Woodhead started from day one due to Faulk's injury (though he wasn't a rookie, per se).

NE clearly would prefer a reliable vet to go along with promising youngster, but that seems like the best option at any position.

You have no idea what the original plan was, you're only assuming. Faulk and Woodhead we're always over rookie Vereen on the depth chart, injury or not.

And that still doesn't dispute my claim that Belichick doesn't like to play rookie RBs.

Chandler just needs to be better than Wright and/or OhOh, in order to make that a good signing.

Mission accomplished
I'm not ready give up on Wright as the secondary TE. Is he an upgrade over Hooman? Definately.

The deals, especially Gost's, are fine. Seriously, if you're complaining about Gost's contract, you're looking for **** to ***** about.

Sure, lots. Once Revis left, NE got the two best FA fits on the market.

No need for melodrama, particularly misinformed melodrama.
Admittedly my post was over dramatic, it's just frustration over reportedly swinging and missing on Bush and Harvin. Really wanted one or they other. Though I do think you're overselling the signings we've made so far. Sheard is probably gonna be awesome, but who's the other guy you speak of?

Him doing damage to the Patriots the last 2 years doesn't change the fact that he's been below mediocre as a whole against everyone else. It's an "ok" signing, but certainly not a signing that will make people forget who's left the team and who they've missed out on.

I assume you are talking about Chandler. Averaging 45 catches a year for the last four years, is hardly "below mediocre" for a player the Pats will slot in as their #2 TE. He's a legitimate back up to Gronk (which the Pats have not had) and the two of them on the field at the same time creates massive matchup problems for defenses on all three downs.a

I think this is a very exciting signing, mostly because it shows continued interest by Belichick in some jumbo run/pass packages he showed last year.

I bet Bush got much more than BB would give..Pierre would come cheaper and ghe's not a softy like bush
Well, could be that Bush wanted to have prime time carries too and that was something BB was hesitant
VereenX
SpillerX
HeluX
BushX
Pierre Thomas?- do it Bill
They were never serious about Spiller.

There will be veteran 3rd down backs released by teams right up until the final cut down day in training camp. It's a position with more supply than demand.

Chandler is will allow them to do what everyone was expecting when Ballard was hear a few seasons ago.

spiller, vereen both got over 4m and I bet bush too..what did helu get?

Eh, there's been a lot of TEs who have rising through the ashes despite terrible play.

Chandler certainly has the size to get me excited, but we'll see. The Jake Ballard experiment is what makes me temper my expectations.
When Jake Ballard got here he was a physical reclamation project but eventually needed to retire because his knee was a mess.

Chandler is healthy.
