The League Investigating the Jets for tampering this past week

im excited to see how bad the patriots get punished for making the jets bid against themselves

Tampergate. Love it.

There is zero chance that the NFL awards the Pats ANYTHING in the form of compensation. This is the most hated franchise in the league, outside of New England, and any form of real justice would be viewed by the rest of the country as another way that Belichick/Kraft has manipulated things to promote their own evil agenda.

I agree with you. But, My question: to punish the Jets they necessarily have to give something to the Patriots? They could eliminate a second choice of them and eliminate compensatory picks if they have this draft or next one.
Its not the ideal world but i will be satisfied.

I would say yes, you have to compensate the Patriots, or everyone would tamper. If you tamper and steal another teams player and only lose a draft pick, it would be like taking a player in the supplemental draft.

I do wonder if Spygate/Deflategate whiners are generally the types of people who are unsuccessful in life and looking to make excuses.

Pretty powerful statement, Ice. I think there is more to it.

I'm sure there are some NFL fans that fall into this category. There are others that feel that they were duped into believing that what they were emotionally invested in was not legitimate (cheating) and Americans hate that. Americans also love a good soap opera-esque controversy as for some it distracts them from their monotonous lives.

The problem is that the league office takes complete advantage of that psyche and because one of the best things for a brand is to create an emotional fervor around it, the league does what it does to fuel that reaction as it drives interest. Unfortunately, the residue of such actions is now creates the perception that the game itself is sullied.

Spygate, Cameragate, Bountygate, Tampergate, Deflategate....its silly really. The league claims it's singular focus is to protect the shield but in essence due to it's commitment to drive interest and TV revenues and how it goes about it achieving it, it is eroding the shield at the same time.

I hope you're right

I am a person who despises the victim mentality and have achieved considerable success from very humble roots. That said, the statement I quoted is total garbage.

To any even remotely unbiased observer it is obvious that the NFL is asymmetric in the rewards and sanctions it doles out to teams. The only thing consistent about how the NFL delivers it's "justice" is that the teams that they are hard on and the ones they give a pass to remain the same. The mountain of evidence of the NFL office's bias is so great that it should be obvious to any but the most casual of fans.

It is wise to be careful whom you call a victim. It would serve you well to turn that critical eye inward once in a while.

I think this case ... if proven true is more analogous to spygate than anything else. The minor offense would be doing something not permitted by NFL rules (tampering). The major offense would be not heeding the recent NFL memorandum sent out regarding tampering.

We got punished in spygate for not heeding the memorandum which is what Belichick alluded to recently - the filming was a minor part of it. If the evidence is there then this case needs to be punished at a higher level than any tampering cases previous to this ... mostly due to the recent memorandum

- a precedent setting punishment to set an example.

Not to be sexist, but because the Jets are involved, I keep reading the word as "tamponing."

Spygate was about BB flipping the bird to Goody for his action in implementing casual law, bypassing league governance protocols and enacting changes pertaining to game day operations that NORMALLY are to be discussed, debated, vetted and voted on by the NFL Executive and Competition Committees. In his own way, BB stood up to NFL tyranny- which was foolish of him because he didn't have the political support but he did have a point.

As it pertains to tampering, the Jets flipped the bird to the league and tampered on many levels (Woody and w/ this past week's negotiations w/ Revis while under contract with the NEP.) and broke rules already in place.

While it won't be the same level of punishment, in theory it should be much, much worse than Spygate.

You missed a step. Woody was warned earlier in the year about tampering.

It is almost impossible to hide/erase a digital trail (just ask Hillary). If the NFL (and that's a big if) somehow gets into the Jets phone records they will be caught.

Not if they took a page from Hillary and did all their communicating on private, personal lines.

They all bought burners.

With the 6th pick the New England Patriots select.........

With the 6th pick the New England Patriots select......... or with the 6th round 198th pick the New England Patriots select... :p??

Leonard Williams....AKA the second coming of Richard Seymour!

They really do need him. If he can give them what Sey did in the latter 1/2 of his rookie year that'll take a ton of pressure off the CBs.

If he isn't available then depending on who you believe, Danny Shelton might also be a good pickup although hes expected to be more ~10th pick.

Seems like the top 5 or 6 CBs are good in man to man coverage that have 1st and 2nd round grades. I'd hate to see them abandon what they did in 2014 just because they lost Revis and Browner and make the effort to keep the scheme by drafting players that fit.

...and there is always trading down :p

Belichick would trade it back most likely. Which the way this draft is stacked would make a lot of sense.

I do believe that whatever Goodell does will be more of a power play for his self preservation.

Release all of the ongoing investigations at once to hide his deficiencies in some and try to re solidify his power on others in the owners eyes.

He is more upset on weekend leaks because it interfered with a NFL ratings show to announce the signings. Money lost for NFL.

He can hide a "nothing to see here" approach to DeflateGate while trying to mend his relationship with Kraft by awarding him the Jets 5th round pick for tampering.

We as Pats fans would not like that outcome. He would not directly be apologizing for DG, and the compensation would seem low. But this is about the bigger picture with Goodell. We are just a cog in his way
