Free agent WR Stevie Johnson visited the Chargers on Friday.

If anyone is wondering why his stats last two years took such a steep decline:

Imagine Welker in his prime with Manuel or Kaepernick. Just a horrible fit. He's not a WR like Boldin that can still produce with mediocre accuracy QBs.

With Brady, he could ascend as high as WR1B to Edelman, leapfrogging Amendola and Lafell. Out of all the realistic WR options for us in FA, only S. and A. Johnson could be a WR1 here, as compared to Hartline, Shorts, Harvin to an extent, etc.

He ran a 4.46 at his pro day. Maybe something was bothering him at the combine? He has excellent size at 6'2 and had some very productive years with the Bills with three 1,000+ seasons in a row. At age 28, he's still in his prime. A great buy-low candidate.

Oh ok that makes a lot more sense.

(I know 40 times aren't everything btw)

Has from Calli bet he signs with the Chargers to stay close to home.
We might be looking at Dwayne Bowe.

not a fan...but oh well i would take it

Would rather have 2 of Wilfork/Bryant/Mathis rather than the crop of wrs that are out there.

I wouldn't mind having him. He runs nice routes, is quick more than fast. He's never played with a decent QB! Brady likes receivers to be where they are suppose to be so he would be a good fit.
I would also like Vince back and a DT in the draft as well as an OG. And of course a CB!

For some reason Stevie has done well against Revis , so that is a check mark in his favor.

Your "prime" is not an age number and is not equal for all players. He may be past his prime. Sometimes the window closes much faster for some players than others.

I'll fully admit though that his 2 recent down seasons did come with completely awful QB play.

He has WR1 talent. he may not be the smartest but this kids got the goods and it's not a stretch to say he can be better than any receiver on our roster. He has done it with lesser QB's and coaches, if he really put his mind in the game he could be special. Plus he gives revis a devil of a time lol

I wanted the Patriots to trade for Marshawn Lynch when it was obvious he was available and I don't mind Stevie Johnson the footballer at all. If he comes at a reasonable cost, he would be a helluva addition to the Patriots. Edelman, LaFell, Johnson, Dobson and Amendola gives cause for much optimism.

People keep bringing that up, but I doubt that's what any of this is about. All of the other "named" WRs have been costing 6-7m dollars a year, so S.Johnson is just cheaper and makes more sense. Of course there's also a major level of talent dropoff in my opinion, but he can still fill a role here and provide value.

We somehow managed to go up against Revis 2-3 times a year the entire time he was with the Jets with fairly decent results, so I doubt that Belichick is panicking about having to face him. That said, the Jets defense has definitely gotten better.

Johnson could have a monster season with Brady. He is a very good route runner that works to get open, quickly. The 49ers went out of their way to miss use him. I'm sure that, if someone went back and looked at the tape, he was open a lot more than he was targeted.

Johnson can line up in or out too. He's got that versatility the Patriots look for.

If true and they sign S.Johnson, it wouldn't be looking good at all for the guy in your avatar pic.

Dobson, Tyms, Gibson, Boyce, and Dorsey would all be vying for the last remaining WR5 spot.

Adding Chandler is a move that strengthens the Patriots serious advantage over the Jets D. Outside of David Harris, they don't really have a Linebacker that can consistently cover a Tight End. If Wright develops, Gronkowski, Chandler and Wright is a nice compliment of skills at the position. Good luck trying to cover Gronk with Revis or Cromartie. We've seen what he does to Cornerbacks.

Belichick will continue to strengthen the Patriots Offensive Line, give Brady time and negate the moves of the Dolphins, Bills and Jets further demonstrating his strategic prowess. They zig, he zags.

I'm not really worried about matching up with other teams in the division, although I do feel as though the other three teams have gotten better.

What we need is added depth/competition in the trenches, some CBs, and a running game.

If he's healthy, I am confident he'll be on the team. If not he'll unfortunately need to look at doing something else.

Truthfully, I'm not that concerned about the Jets, Bills and Dolphins mainly because of their Quarterback situations. Brady's seen every defense imaginable and I trust Belichick to scheme appropriately. What we do know is all three of the Bills, Jets and Dolphins have taken aim at the Patriots. I wouldn't expect anything less. A better division means a better New England.

If you believe Dobson is done (like I do), a LaFell injury is a scary thought. Pats have no other reliable outside receivers and would have to put one of the little guys there. If they can get a good deal on one of these veterans, it would be worth it. Of course, they have badly misjudged veteran free agent WRs in the past.

If some people think a team that has just won the Superbowl lacks talent, I think they will be throwing themselves into the harbour when we have an 8-8 season in the future.

There must be some trolling going on here?
