3/13 Updated!!! Sign[ed] the Beast XXXV: Buffalo Bills release TE Scott Chandler

Great signing. Chandler is a big tough reliable QB who finally has a QB to play with. In Buffalo he was a 50/500 guy, i can easily see him being 65/700. He's a strong blocker as well. Imagine in our 2 TE set we have Gronk and Chandler on the line and defenses have no clue who's blocking and who's moving out.

We can motion Gronk and keep Chandler on the line, force the defense to move and then run the ball because of the additional blocker on the line.

Who needs Revis when opposing offenses will hardly be on the field?

As an aside, a red zone offense that was really good last year should be absolutely lethal this year should both Gronk and Chandler stay healthy. Throw in LaFell in the corner and Edelman and Amendola in the flats and the offense shouldn't have any trouble scoring points from inside the 20.

If I read Miguel's cap page correctly it says $400K bonus

Not my field of expertise, but for what it's worth I was quoting Miguel directly off of Twitter, haha

These media types need to read Miguel's page :)

Miguel is right, both times.

The 400k roster bonus is split between 300k due fifth day of the league year, and up to 100k for games Hoomanawanui is on the active roster.

I have so far seen the following reports:

Scott Chandler blocks well.
Scott Chandler's blocking is average.
Scott Chandler can't block.

I no longer have any idea which to believe. Truthfully, I'm not sure how much it matters. We aren't a smoke & mirrors team that is hiding what they are doing out there. When we want to run, we bring in a 6th OL like Fleming and run right down you. When we want to pass, we don't mind putting guys like Wright out there that couldn't block for their life. We did a little more of the disguise stuff with Hernandez, yeah, but he couldn't really block either. The point was to get him going against a guy he could block.

The only value Chandler's blocking will bring is as a Gronk backup - which, yes, could be important. But, in his role otherwise, he'll be on the field to catch passes.

Converted WR

i read that he stinks as a blocker, is that true? lol oh well adds another option for brady to throw to.
chandlers better than timmy wright imo.

He's Gronk insurance in case the big fella misses a game or two. Doesn't count towards supplemental pick formula because he was released. Let's add Reggie Bush and trade for Evan Mathis. Back to the top offense in the league.

I like the signing...but let's wait and see how he adjusts to our system.
If guys like Fells and Crumpler (who seemed like dreams come true on paper) didn't have breakout seasons with us, I'd be happy if Mr. Chandler is even active for most of our games.
It further highlights how much Hooman as brought to the table over the past few years.

Crumpler was brought in for one reason only:

Gronkowski and Hernandez

We 100% reset the position that year and he was the veteran brought in to teach the kids the ropes of the game at the NFL level, he was a pure blocker, too, by that point in his career.

I don't care that the Dolphins landed Suh; that the Jets got Revis; or any other significant signing because we just won free agency. Does the league not understand what Brady can do with someone that possesses 70% of Gronk's ability?

Good signing. He kills us.

From what I remember and what most Bills fans have been saying, he's a really good receiving TE, not so much as a blocker.

Tim Wright might not make it out of training camp.

In regards to the question of his blocking ability:

"1:30 SIGNING! Taking a break from the run of Saints-related topics, Adam Schefter has the Patriots signing for Bills tight end Scott Chandler who was let go by Buffalo earlier in the week. Forever on the lookout for additional options at the position, New England brings in the eight-year vet who finished at the top of the Pass Blocking Efficiency table for tight ends in 2014, charged with no pressures allowed on 38 pass-blocking snaps."

Patriot killer signs here. I picked him up as a bye week replacement when he was playing the Pats last season. Fantasy move of the week.

I think his lifetime stat line Vs the Pats is 2000 yards and 17 tds.

Really good signing that I was hoping for.
