Rats! I was hoping we would keep Ayers.

Thank you Akeem you played a vital role, as well as made some clutch plays.
You earned your ring now go give Seattle hell again.

I feel bad but all I ever remember is Ayers getting pancaked in some games. And being undisciplined and losing contain in the Superbowl after Chandler Jones got pressure on Wilson.

He had his good plays too. But I'm not too miffed by this loss. Good for him on cashing in.

I think it's great that we give these guys opportunities to use their roles here to enhance their careers.......first, they go off and help fill other teams salary caps........second, they help produce compensatory picks for us.

Just a classic two way street pick up by BB and Caserio. A former high pick not being utilized by his team for his strengths or just being used wrong by his coaches. Lost in the situation at hand. In comes the Patriots who utilize his strengths and and put him in position to succeed while Chandler is out.

Got the Patriots out of a bind and helped a player prolong his career and make some cash and prove to others that he still can play a NFL level. Worked out for both parties.

How much was his contract?

I would have liked to see him stay, he did a good job and at the very least insurance at the d-end lb spot.

BB is the Warren Buffett of the NFL. If he likes you and pulls you into his portfolio the value of your stock goes up by 20% without doing anything. If you preform it goes up even more.

The Oracle of Foxboro. LOL.

Akeem should buy Bill a fruit basket or something. He gets pulled out of languishing on the bench, gets to play, wins a ring and then gets a contract. Nice luck.

I loved Ayres but he came here with a few months left on a contract when we needed a pass rusher stepped up showed his talent, will no doubt have now been paid nicely and we only drop back a handful of places for him depending on the comp pick awarded. Great move by BB I hope the rams have over paid like the giants did for our backups.

Helps in the comp pick sweepstakes too. We get Casillas and Ayers for basically nothing. They help us win the Super Bowl. Could end so netting us a couple of comp picks in the sweetest of all areas. 6th round
Bleacher Report reporting two years $6mm. That would be a 6th round compensatory.
Basically worthless. What have the Patriots ever received...

Ayers you should give half of your contract to BB for saving your career

No doubt. One of the things that amazes me about Belichick is he appears to have a core philosophy that calls for action and change. For Belichick, everything is a process of evolution and he isn't afraid to kick the tires on devalued assets, test the rule book and massage scheme. It is truly something to behold, something I am not sure the NFL will see again.

Agreed. There is little doubt in my mind that BB is the last of his "species" (Ursus HorriBBilis?). When he retires the species will go extinct.

BB appears to see a more poignant grand scheme of winning that encompasses all aspects of football players and their ability compliment each other/each area. A weakness will be outweighed/well compensated by a strength. That's why when Revis and Browner were lost I didn't think we are sunk (that's a different species called gallus domesticus minimus?), I thought "BB will rebalance the complimentary grand scheme of winning". Now add in his almost inhuman like deference to a strict cap dollar versus production philosophy as well as an excellent QB who completely believes in the HC/man, and what you have is the BB Patriots. A team that is also the last of its species (unless one believes in this cap era another team will come along with a near 14 year run of repeated success).

Find it hard to believe that Casillas got more than Ayers.
