Akeem Ayers signs with St. Louis Rams

SBs sure do make people rich. Imagine Casillas. Unreal how teams trip over themselves to pick off champions.

Ayers came in, did his job, stepped back upon Jones' return. Was near/in on the huge Lynch run at the end of that game. Awesome pick up (along with several others) by our coach AND General manager. (GM so so in the other thread - embarassing)

Thanks much for the SB contribution.

That was quick. Akeem Ayers has just signed that 2-year deal w/Rams.

Akeem Ayers gave the Patriots significant contributions in Chandler Jones' midseason absence, but it appears his run in New England is over.

Ayers, acquired midseason from Tennessee to shore up defensive depth, has signed a two-year deal with the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

It's not a surprise, given that New England signed edge rusher Jabaal Sheard Wednesday. Sheard is more physical and better against the run than Ayers, who provided solid production as a pass rusher. Ayers had three sacks in his first five games with the Patriots, but saw his playing time drop dramatically when Jones returned from a hip injury. He played only 24 defensive snaps in the playoffs.

The Patriots have lost their two starting corners, Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, to free agency. Vince Wilfork remains a free agent. And Ayers joins Jonathan Casillas as reserve linebackers who have found new jobs elsewhere.

Too bad. I would have liked to keep Ayers as well as Sheard. I thought they had complimentary strengths - Ayers more fluid and better in coverage, Sheard a better edge setter.

Good luck, Akeem. You did good for us.

Well at least we still have Collins.

well, let's see if Buchannon can give us something, so far high hopes only. Speaking of which I'm gonna listen high hopes from pink Floyd.

Good luck to him for the rest of his career! (The usual exceptions apply.)

And by the way -- on that last Lynch run he was just barely good enough to save the season. It wasn't the greatest tackle assist ever made. It was ... well, it was just barely enough.

Unbelievable value acquisition making critical plays every step of the way. I would have loved to have kept Ayers but he deserves an opportunity at more playing time, even in that stacked Rams front 7.

Agreed.
Good for Ayers. He was at the low point, was thrown an opportunity, made the most of it, rewarded/in a better position professionally.

What a terrible thing this is. The Patriots are repeatedly losing players like this to bigger contracts. These players are coming here on the cheap, playing ravenous and hungry and wanting to show the world they are worth bigger money.
Unfortunately another player or two this year may do it again. Damn BB and his damn philosophy!

Has there ever been a better plug and play talent evaluator and impact maximiser than Bill Belichick? He continually finds these diamonds in the rough, gives them an opportunity and when it's time to move on, does so accordingly.

I'm seriously in awe of his intelligence and that of the team he has chosen to surround himself with.

"in awe" is the exactly correct phrase. BB maximizes player potential to a better degree than any HC of the modern football era, period. IMHO, rose colored glasses not withstanding, he is BY FAR the greatest HC of the era and a good chance he is of all time.
He isn't perfect. Not every acquisition is right. Sometimes his grand scheme comes up short. Overall, however, the guy is a man among boys in the HC pool. It makes being a Patriot fan a GREAT pleasure.

Helps in the comp pick sweepstakes too. We get Casillas and Ayers for basically nothing. They help us win the Super Bowl. Could end so netting us a couple of comp picks in the sweetest of all areas. 6th round

No doubt. One of the things that amazes me about Belichick is he appears to have a core philosophy that calls for action and change. For Belichick, everything is a process of evolution and he isn't afraid to kick the tires on devalued assets, test the rule book and massage scheme. It is truly something to behold, something I am not sure the NFL will see again.

no, not BARELY enough...JUST enough!

on the flip side, I see St Louis as a really strong fit for him. He has a lot of very dangerous defenders surrounding him, will definitely free him up to go after the QB.

Its one thing to just chase the dollars, this a nice situation where he gets paid well and walks in to a very nice situation for himself.

Kudos and thanks for the lombardi.

Is anyone going to come close to the level of disruptive talent in the Rams front 7 this season? It's literally mind boggling.

Quinn - Brockers - Donald - Long
Ogletree - Laurinaitis - Dunbarr/Ayers
