Patriots restructured Danny Amendola's contract so he could remain with the team, source says.

Sounds like Amendola could've gone elsewhere for more $ but valued Pats' situation/winning. New deal 3 years, $12.75m, $15m max.

Might even be worth its own Thread, but I don't want to be the one that gives birth to the back and forth, dysfunctional monstrosity it will inevitably become.

Yes, and...how does he react to being inactive for a game where the game plan is all about power running?

He still can be used as a runner in the jet sweep play like he was used in the SB and in Minnesota. His sure presence when you fake the jet sweep will get the defense attention

Just about every Patriot skill player not named Brady has been at some point, based on game plan, so a requirement of being one is that you can put your ego aside when that happens and remain a positive influence on the team. There are indications that he can't do that.
Hell are you talking about? Harvin would never be a game day inactive. He has the talent to be a game changer those guys are never healthy inactives even if they are going with a "power running game"

Gronk, LaFell, Edelma, and Amendola were never healthy game day inactives this season.

Well Gronk was once which was that throwaway game against the Bills when the Pats had clinched homefield throughout.

For some Pats fans, the best way to replace the 2 starting CB's we just lost is with WR'S

In fact for some of our brethren, adding WR's is the solution for EVERYTHING.....including cancer. ;)

I think the train of thought is that if we're going to give up more points then we need to score more.

I also think the vast majority agree that there aren't many, if any, solutions to provide an immediate fix to multiple CB vacancies if we're discounting our own guys as "not worthy" and want to see the DL upgraded immediately.

We've already signed Sheard and there is no reason we can't bring in Knighton, trade for Mathis, AND sign Harvin. We have the cap space and can structure deals as we need.

With Knighton's weight issues we can also make him earn his money like we did with Wilfork after returning from injury.

Considering they just restructured Amendola, bringing in Harvin would mean the 4th receiver is making $4mm a year. And it's worse than that because you have to add Gronk in to the picture, meaning $4mm for the 5th receiving option.

That only works if the 5th option is also a running back, but neither Harvin nor Amendola possess those skills. There simply is no room or reason to sign Harvin unless it's for peanuts.

BB has had as few as three WR's, and as few as two RB's, on an active game day roster before. At most with the Pats he'd be a change of pace player with a limited number of plays in the playbook available when he's on the field. Look at his history with other teams that demand far less of their WR's and RB's than the Pats do.

Under those circumstances, I can see him not being on the active roster for certain games.

Knighton, Mathis and Bush would be sweet. Not as worried about WR with the Amendola restructure and a deep group to draft from.

Saw this on twitter

Rex Ryan tells @TSN1050Radio that Percy Harvin will visit New England after his stop in Buffalo today. @ProFootballTalk

Why would rex ryan say that? Like he is happy about it lol

Harvin has never had a clearly defined role as a WR, slot, or the Vareen role, but he does have the unique talent to be any one of them. For that reason, he could probably fit into any game plan as long as he was doing it the way Brady wanted him to.

He said he's looking to be a WR now - just that (which makes sense because the $$$ are higher there at this time).

Bill has had a fascination with harvin. I got a feeling he will be here. He also could help special teams?

But he just got cut from a $9 or 11m dollar deal(whatever it was) so he could be looking for a 1 year deal to re-establish his value. If Harvin went along with the program and did what was asked of him in the different roles for 100+ catches and over 1k yards, then it would be worth it $$$ to him.

Re-watched the second half of the Super Bowl last night. I didn't notice it at the time, but it was Siliga not Vince that played nose tackle. He played it the way Vince did in 2011-2012. Vince was relegated to a rotational tackle, and was mostly ineffective and singly (if not easily) blocked at that.

Wilfork was certainly not a "rotational tackle" in the SB, having played 74 percent of the snaps (right in line exactly with where he was all season long). On top of that, he also played more reps in the SB than Siliga did:

Wilfork 39/53 snaps--74 percent

What better team to sign for in a one year deal then the patriots? He can play the slot with edelman.
