CB Brandon Browner signs with New Orleans Saints

Without Revis the whole scheme must change.

No, it doesn't. Culliver is available. They could have kept Browner, signed him, and used Dennard (who is proficient in man to man too) when needed. Arrington is also good in man coverage against slot receivers. Why they're going back to a primarily zone based scheme is beyond me. Any halfway decent quarterback eats that for lunch and it didn't exactly kill it for us from 2008-2012, which is why we signed Revis and Browner in the first place.

Don't like this at all I think BB will regret this one. Please don't go back to the zone smurfs.

Exactly, this was complete cluster ****. Didnt sign Browner's and Wilfork's extensions to use the money for revis, and now might lose all 3. Wonder if Earthwind and Ellis Hobbs are available.

Wilfork was overpaid and Browner redundant without Revis. The Pats did what they wanted/needed to do.

Well that is very disappointing. :(

Scavengers picking up our free agents and other free radicals hoping for some Patriots magic to wear off. Like usual.

BB has some changes in mind, we'll see what they are. Maybe a bad ass front seven? Remember we almost won that game against GB, where the plan was to basically give him all day to throw, and count on our secondary to do well enough? The fact that that almost worked, against a top QB in the league, shows just how amazing our secondary was this year. Imagine trying that gameplan using Arrington and company? Ugh.

So, our entire gameplan with teams like GB is going to change now. Most likely back to the bend but don't break. But hopefully with a front seven that can wreak more havoc, give Rodgers 2 seconds instead of 2 minutes.

This is clearly the plan. I hope they have the pass rush sorted because the philosophy simply can't win championships without that. But I do have faith that's what BB will try to field, and it's the best strategy to pursue in light of Revis leaving and no comparable free agents available.

I don't know if we will have as high an upside as last year but I do believe they are doing the right thing. I think Butler, Arington, and Ryan are good enough for a zone scheme. I even think that suits all 3 of them better than man-press stuff. So we're definitely on the right track. No way to know what the result will be, but if it's not a Superbowl I don't think we can really blame them for bad personnel decisions this year. I really don't know what else they could do. Who knows- we might even get some action with Ryan splitting time at safety with Chung, and that might pay dividends with some of those teams that like to pass over the middle. The outside will become our worry again, but if the PI rule gets changed, even that won't be as bad as before. (It would certainly limit Flacco "heroics" in a playoff game.)

GO PATS!

Its safe to say. Browner will not be a champion this year.

I still dont know if the saints sre shopping lewis

Wonder if he went there for the money or wasn't informed that he might be traded in the next 24 hours along with apparently everyone else.

Trade Vaccaro, Browner and the WR for Dobson + Chung and 2nd

Without Revis he may as well be gone.

How I will forever remember Browner ... best of luck to him as a Saint.

Back to a crappy secondary. At least TFB finally got his 4th ring because I am betting it's his last.

There are still moves the Pats can make between now and opening day. It's a little too early to say that. But it's depressing that the Pats are (or at least seem to be) going back to death by a thousand papercuts.

Browner wasn't a FA. We had him locked up for $5m ish. We let him go and he gets picked up for $6m. Meanwhile we keep Arrington at $4m. I am sorry but Browner is 5x the CB Arrington is. We fcked up in this situation. We should have been asking Arrington to restructure not Browner. We had him on a god damn contract. Anyone who tells me that it was cap constraint why we let him go is talking crap. We could have asked Amendola or Arrington or someone else to restructure. We CHOSE to let Browner go. I have no idea wtf Belichick is thinking but it's puzzling to say the least and it's not like Belichick is immune to mistakes either.

Pretty nice the Saints signed Browner to 6M per year. That puts him above Sheard's contract ($5.5M apy) and currently would net the Pats a compensatory 4th.

Pats currently have a compensatory 3rd, 4th, and 6th in play.

I liked Browner, sad to see him go. Butler and Arrington will have lots of playing time to prove themselves

I loved what Browner brought. Sucks to see him go.

good luck mr.browner, loved his physical style. guy was a true badass.

have fun in NO.

He is not immune to mistakes, but to think you are a better judge of whether Browner is worth the money, or that you fully understand the circumstances is where you prove you are not immune to mistakes either.

I love the argument though. BB isn't perfect so therefore you must be right, because what, you are?
