So it looks like they are up for trading literally anyone and anything from their roster. So are there any players that look like that might be a good fit for the Pats? Do you think its realistic that the Pats will offer up anything to trade?

I really really want them to get Lewis.

How the #### did they put themselves in this cap hell; they have good players and a good QB, what a waste, bad, terrible management. Gave Graham a nice contract, one year later dumps him, the most lethal weapon their QB ever had.

Thanks god we have Belichick, I will never criticize BB again, after the job he did in these last 2 seasons, especially 2013 with 8 starters in the IR going that far with depth players.

The Saints have a major salary cap problem that extends several years into the future with dead money hits that tie their hands. They had very few options that didn't include blowin' it up. At a certain point with the cap, you can no longer just "work through your cap issues". You have to cut real players, take brutal dead money hits, and start over.

Right now, Drew Brees has a $26.5 million cap hit. If they cut him or if he retires, there's a $33.5 million dead money hit. You can lower his cap hit by moving more money from salary/roster bonus to signing bonus, but that increases the dead money on a 36 year old QB.

The dead money is a massive risk. Imagine, for example, if Revis tears an Achilles in training camp with a $39 million dead money hit. It's football. Injuries happen. All the time....

Plus, Tom Benson is sick and his children are fighting with him for control of the team. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...on-family-running-new-orleans-saints-pelicans

Apparently he had a trust and then he married wife #3 in 2004. The story is his eldest daughter and latest wife hate each other and now that he is dying, it's "On".

So the children are running the team and basically going with the plot from the movie "Major League" and just unloading everything.

What would scare me is if they unloaded Brees to either the Bills or the Jets.

So fleece'um while you can BB!

They don't have the cap room to unload Brees. Trading him would increase their 2015 cap number by $7 million over keeping him. A $33.5 million dead money cap hit is no joke.

While I don't need it, I find myself reminded how much we all should love Brady.

Wait a minute.. I was under the impression the "cap is crap" .. [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

Kenny Vaccaro please.

I was coming in to say this. Chung can no longer be counted on to only play close to the LOS. There are times when he's going to have to play deep and he's been historically terrible back there. Vaccaro would look excellent lining up next to McCourty.

Drew Brees to the Eagles

Not :p

Trade for Browner!
Pats fans always want a shiny new toy. Browner would never fit here and plus doesn't he have character issues? PASS

But if they are just worried about cash that increased cap hit wouldn't matter as long as they can stay under the cap.

Cash is not the problem for the Saints (well, it might be, but it's not the big problem). They were way over the cap last week. Complete cap jail cutting and restructuring just to get under the cap. And, unable to do it except to take steps that are very painful -- like trading Graham one year after signing him and cutting several good players.

I'm seriously thinking of calling down there to see if I can pick up a guy just for my yardwork this spring

those guys are pretty strong

the graham trade was really unrelated to cap as a lot of this is.
they did most of their trimming a few days ago to meet the deadline, and it was mostly expected and uneventful stuff to the point where they were cutting new deals like ingram's.

brees could probably even squeeze out some more if they actually needed it.

@JasonLaCanfora: Saints aren't done making deals. Actively shopping disgruntled CB Keenan Lewis

Don't kid yourself. They had to cut just to get under the March 10 cap. They still have to sign draft picks, fill the roster. Go from 51 to 53. And put $5+ million aside for in-season injuries.

And, sure, they can go back to the Brees credit card again, if they think that the risk of a $33 million dead money hit on a 36 year old QB isn't high enough. Why not go to $40 million, right? I mean, they could just not field a team for a year or two if he tears a rotator cuff in training camp....
