Sign the Beast XXXVI: Reggie Bush to be our 2015 Vereen?

Which of the free agent backs can pass block best? We have I keep Brady's jersey cleaner.

I'm curious why someone disagreed with this, Vereen was a fantastic pass catcher, but one of the worst starting runners in the league, at least in my opinion. Bush has proven ability to gain yards on the ground, even if he is FAR from the best, Vereen does not have that same talent.
Vereen's career yards per carry average was a respectable 4.2, but I saw just the other day that his yards after first contact number was one of the worst in the league.

I want Harvin's talent any basically anyone elses reliability, does that exist?

I also have mixed feelings on Harvin being as much as a headcase as we all think he is.

He wasn't exactly shipped off from Minnesota, Seattle paid a kings ransom, and it only seems like he had major issues with a small number of players in the locker room which may have been issues too big to contain, if I remember correctly, he had quite a bit of support after being shipped away from players who were surprised and upset.

The Jets tried to make him their #1 in a system he didn't know with one of the leagues worst QB situations while making top tier WR money.

He was only really shipped off from one team for not meshing with a few players, not everyone is made to get along.

All of that said, Harvin is not an RB, I'd love Bush AND Harvin, or Spiller AND Harvin, but Harvin does not fill the 3rd down RB role exclusively.

Ya our 3rd down offense would be unstoppable. Imagine Edelman/Lafell out wide with Harvin in the slot and Gronk at TE. That's hard enough but now ass in a receiver in the back field with Bush's capabilities. And if it's 3rd and anything under 5 you still have to account for Bush's running game.

I like Bush but I don't know if I want the pats to give Reggie the money that he will probably want. I'd rather get someone cheaper

I have no interest in Reggie Bush, dude is made of glass. He's played a full 16 games twice in nine seasons.

Vereen only had 1 fully healthy season in 4 years--not much better a rate. Although I didn't compare games played by year on average.

I'm not the one who disagreed with that post, but...

Bush, last year: 3.9 ypa 6.3 ypc
Vereen, last year: 4.1 ypa, 8.6 ypc

I think we should put these numbers into context regarding the situations in which they ran; I don't know how many attempts & yards came from a 2nd&long or 3rd down run play (in our case mostly draws) in Vereen's and Bush's case; I think they should favor Vereen and make him look better in comparison to Bush.

Would be interesting to know the attempts & yards divided by situations and the yards after contact for both; should permit a more realistic evaluation.

What would this team do with another "slot receiver", Percy Harvin???... A locker room cancer guy.

Wake me up when Reggie makes his decision, yawn!!!!!

Despite his size though doesnt harvin offer our best deep threat?

Lafell/edelman/harvin would be legit especially with reggie bush out the backfield. If we managed ro keep amendola for cheaper as well even better

He's average 13 games a season over 9 years. Vereen has averaged 10.5. Granted Bush is younger and a better route runner but I feel like Bush is better at making yards from a dump off - swing pass or screen.

Bush is an upgrade over Vereen, I'd absolutely do it at the right price. Shane was very solid in his role but never broke out the way he kinda teased at moments in 2012. Bush has shown he can be a legit playmaker and a better runner in limited work, just won't last as a primary.

If he's looking for Vereen money I'd be intersted in Pierre Thomas. Not the playmaker but he'd get the job done as 3rd down back and as a reserve runner.

I think if we signed Harvin, he would take Vereens place. He would play fewer snaps and probably run the ball only 30-40 times all year, but he seems to me to be a receiving RB in our system.

Vereen was excellent and dynamic in the passing game, but mediocre as a runner.
In that role, most of the runs come against nickel and dime on shotgun draws. A good RB will easily average 5 ypc+ if only taking those runs. 4.2 in that role is more like 3.2 compared to a traditional RB.

The teenage boy inside me want us to get Reggie Bush the sensible adult say only if the price very good.

I would prefer forsett......

Bush is a better runner than Vereen but not a better receiver. Pass protector is unknown.

Something Julian Edelman has done ONCE in SIX seasons.

.

I think a great 3rd down receiving back is crucial to any good offense. Wanted Helu, but Bush would also be a great fit. Not so sure about Spiller. Hard to believe Vereen got 4.1m and Murray night just get 5m

As long as Bush is healthy, he is an upgrade over Vereen. I am a big Vereen fan, but Bush showed that he excelled when he finally went into that change of pace/3rd down back.

In fairness to Bush, early in his career he was miscast as a lead RB and couldn't handle the abuse. Since he became a change of pace back, he has missed far fewer games.

Drafted running backs are so cheap you can literally replace them as their contracts expire and pick up the production with the new breed coming through. It's a 4-5 cycle before moving on.

I'm not concerned if the Patriots don't add a FA RB. There are plenty of good ones available in the draft.
