Vereen Pats/Giants comment

he sounds a little bitter to me. i dont think hes happy the pats didnt show a lot of interest in bringing him back. hes a bit insulted. tough titties.

Vereens a good dude, anyone who followed the team closely during his time here should be able to see that. Im pretty sure he had just finished complementing BB and the pats before he said this to appease his new fan base. Its easy to sit here and think he should have said this or that. I'm sure he didn't want to discuss his feelings about this at all but a microphone is put in his face and he's expected to talk about his past and current team without offending anyone. Who knows what the hell would come out of our mouths in this situation.

biting the hand that feeds you, or in this case the hand that fed you, is never a good thing.

It's fine. I'll say lots of things I don't mean if someone gives me $12M.

It was meant to be complimentary to his new team, and I have no issue with it.

@art_stapleton: Shane Vereen on leaving Patriots for Giants: "This is not a step down; if anything, it is a step up.''

Thoughts?
Vereen is a classy kid! I wouldn't get hung up on a player talking like that about their new team. Happens all the time.

Come on. !! The guy is finally becoming a "in demand" player. And finally getting paid like one. He's happy for his family. Absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. Just stop.

I think folks might be a bit sensitive around here.

Vereen is getting a step up in pay, playing time, quality of lifestyle and stature on a team. Nothing more.

This happens ALL the time. How many times have you seen a Super Bowl Champion cash in on being a champion by getting a big contract, and then say, "I wanted to go somewhere that gives me a chance to win" ? I've seen it a dozen times at least. Doesn't mean it isn't disrepectful, and doesn't mean it isn't a stupid thing to say, but quite common.

What should he have said to his new fanbase? "It's a good thing they gave me a **** ton of money because this city and franchise are pure garbage."

I don't take strong exception to what he said, after all, he's a football player not a politician but..............if he had to do over again perhaps he would have left it as a general comment of "I'm going from one great franchise to another."

lol some of you guys. I highly highly highly doubt he meant this as a slight to the Patriots. Probably meant step up as in a bigger role for him. Swear when the cashier at the grocery store says have a nice day you probably think he's bitter and thinks that you think you're better than him.

Before anyone jumps off on the tone or implication of the excerpt of a statement, watch and hear his actual statement in the video here.

He would be a lousy player if he joins a team and pines away for the organization that didn't think he was worth the money. He calls the Pats a "great organization," so yes he must be saying "Suck it, Pats. I'm out!"

Doubt he's talking about the actual teams... nobody is THAT delusional lol

It's definitely a great signing/opportunity for Shane and he earned it.

He probably will get more playing time...that and living in New York City is a lot more cool for a 25 year old guy than living in Walpole. Just saying.

IIRC, David Givens made one wince-worthy comment after switching teams. I never saw him quoted in a second one. I still think he is and was a class act.

Same thing with Vereen. One comment meant to praise the new situation and its differences from the old one should be forgiven. But if it becomes a theme or pattern, I'll be annoyed.

You know what? I really don't care if he talks up his new team. What he is supposed to say? "I just left the Super Bowl champs, but even though it is a step down I am happy to be here"?

I agree, he praised us and is excited for his new opportunity. He was also a class act here, no disrespect in what he said

Sounds like Vereen was trying to make an innocuous comment but instead said something kind of silly. So what? It's not worth freaking out about. The guy just helped us win a 4th title, he could go play for ISIS right now and I'm not going to sweat it.

All I got out of that is he's looking forward to his new opportunity. Good for him. He helped get us a ring and I appreciate that.
