Vereen Pats/Giants comment

We all know he doesn't actually believe that.

“(I made this) decision with my family,” Vereen said. “At the end of the day, I wanted to make a decision that was right for us, right for them, and this is a great organization. I was fortunate enough to play in New England with another great organization. This is not a step down; if anything, it is a step up. I am looking forward to the opportunity, and I am enjoying being in New York.”
In full context I don't see the outrage. He might well be indicating that it is a step up in his career now that he has a solid contract and will have a good role with the Giants.

You and your longtime girlfriend agree to break up. You loved each other, but you wanted different things and were headed in different directions. You mutually agree to part ways.

You then start seeing a new girl, who is constantly complimenting you and telling you how awesome and amazing you are in ways your old girlfriend never did. You're immediately having a great time. Wouldn't you think at this time that you had had a "step up"?

I don't read too much into this, financially it was a huge step up.

the giants are a joke these days. no more dominant line = mediocre team

Yeah, I don't care, but I also don't understand it.

He knows absolutely nothing about the organization as he's been there for barely a day, they're currently a losing organization for 2 straight seasons, and outside of WR and certain DL positions they are a step down at basically every position on the roster.

Makes you wonder if he never considered returning to NE and had some internal disputes we never heard of.
I think he wanted to return, BB didn't even answer the phone when he called...like a boss. Vereen is probably pissed.

I agree with Kdo5. I don't see it as a shot at us.

@art_stapleton: Shane Vereen on leaving Patriots for Giants: "This is not a step down; if anything, it is a step up.''

Thoughts?
I think he means more playing time. Like a step up in more snaps. We are a RB by committee.

Hey, Vereen...

Come on, what is he suppose to say? "Yup, sucks being here"? He is making nice for the new team. Winning hearts and minds!

I miss you binky

There's nothing wrong with what he said.

It really is this simple: "there is nothing wrong with what he said".
He paid respects to the NEP organization: "lucky to play with a great organization".
He also spoke of his new opportunity and the new, seemingly better, situation for his family -- remarking this for him and for them is, if anything, a step up.

A complete and utter non story.

Sometimes one should know when to stop talking. As long he said it wasnt a step down it was fine. Saying its a step up is stupid of him really. Probably got caught up in the moment. Without him we dont win the SB so i will let that pass.

It's a big step up in money, and probably a step up in role too. And he's also expressing optimism and appreciation for the people that just paid him a bunch of money. I think people reading this as a slight at the Pats are taking it a bit too personally. Really not a big deal IMO.

Love everyone commenting on this, when if you just take 30 seconds to look at the whole transcript it's a completely innocuous comment. This was a total half-assed twitter-frenzy by the media, which unfortunately people here are lazily following.

No offense to Vereen but I'm hoping for a step up from him. He had a MONSTER Super Bowl but was a so-so player overall. Good pick as he gave us some solid years and had a great game when needed. But he was no more than a good, solid player.
My thoughts exactly.

Vereen has never been anything but a cool dude from what I've seen, read and heard.

No question that what he meant was that overall, this is a step up for him in terms of playing time, money and living situation.

Nothing wrong with any of that.

And even if he meant it in the worst way possible, which I'm sure he didn't, it doesn't ****ing matter.

I think that there's a lot of us on here that were offered a better gig than the one we had out of college. If the first employer didn't pipeline us for vertical growth nor try to match the offer, we moved on. We probably viewed the new job as an opportunity to contribute more, mean something more to the new organization, and to a certain extent felt liberated. He's a guy in his mid twenties who just increased his earning potential and feels he can be more contributive in his new role. I think it'd be pretty hard to find a guy with that story, regardless of vocation, who feels and expresses themselves differently. Remember that the golden rule is to treat others but the platinum rule is to realize that everyone else is just you living a different life. He's a very talented dude who earned his contract and I wish the guy all the best.
