Pats re-sign WR Brian Tyms

I like Tyms, I remember his great catch against Buffalo last year. Maybe another year in our system and he'll have more consistency, but he has good size and speed.

Based on who they signed at WR, Brendan Gibson, Z, and Ken Whatshisname? Z and slot, and Tyms, X, it seems that BB and Company, are very satisfied and expecting a lot from X receiver Aaron Dobson this upcoming season.

THe entire receiving corps is young, still developing, and entering their primes.

Well super bowl L is all wrapped up now

Maybe some of the moves were made because they are apprehensive of Dobson and whether or not he'll ever fulfill his potential here? After all, the team added more competition by bringing in outsiders.

Either way, we're talking about the bottom of the depth chart as we still have Edelman, LaFell, Amendola all in front of any of these other players. The others can fight it out for the WR4 and WR5 spots.

Apparently im one of the few who doesn't think that Tyms alone is enough WR depth

I think many would agree on that point. I don't think Tyms is the answer either. I think of Tyms as more of a mere practice squad player.

So while I don't think Tyms is the answer, I don't think making a big splash in free agency is the answer either.

After all, we are looking for a guy to compete with Aaron Dobson to be our 8th receiving option (I hope Dobson can move himself up the ladder but I think you get my point).........

Gronk
Edelman
LaFell
Amendola
(insert pass catching RB here)
Chandler
Wright
(insert 4th receiver)

....and perhaps more to the point of what you were probably getting at, in looking at the top four receiving targets in the list, three of those guys are injury prone (Gronk, Edelman, Amendola) so yes, the more help the better

When you think about it, we were extremely fortunate to have all three on the field for all three playoff games.

Ideally the team is looking for someone to compete with Amendola for the #4th option that would give them more playmaking capability on the outside. With Gronk, Jules and Chandler they have the short, middle and intermediate routes covered.

He's got size and speed, has made a couple of amazing catches (Buffalo was good, but the one they ruled a non-catch in preseason was the best) and he was good enough to play in a few games last year. Worth keeping around - go read the Justin Forsett article in the other threads. You just never know, and if there's anything there to give a hint, why not keep around a guy like Tyms? You bring 90 to camp and keep 63(? 53+10 camp?).

JE is #1, LaFell #2, Amendola and likely Dobson will fight for #3. Gibson looks like #4.

Tyms, Boyce and Dorsey are right behind that and have a pre-season to prove they belong, along with others brought in.

I just don't get why they didn't just ERFA tag him.

And you can tell I'm anxious for some FA news since I typed this much on Brian (it is Brian, right?) Tyms.

Edelman
LaFell
Amendola
Gibson
Dobson
Tyms
Boyce
Dorsey
Wright [given the Chandler signing]
Every possible NFL FA, draft pic, undrafted pic

Looks like a pretty competitive camp to me.

Why would he be alone? Assuming he makes the team.
I meant as he would be 4th on the WR depth chart, I'd like them to bring in a veteran mid range free agent

Agreed. I kinda think that they are set at WR.

Time to focus on Guard, DT, CB and maybe ILB if Mayo is a gonner.

I confess, part of the reason why I like Tyms is his background and his inspiring story. But I feel Tyms definitely has the drive, energy, and potential to succeed... not to mention the guy has a neat set of intangibles that really makes him a good teammate. Even when the guy was inactive during the SB, if you watch NFL films, you'll see him again and again, and he's basically going crazy on the sidelines, rooting and cheering his pals on. I don't doubt his potential for a second. Tyms has a future, with or without the Pats (and hopefully with)

...while the rest of the league is playing checkers.

KA-BOOM!!!
