Chandler would already be signed if he'd played with the Rams. :D

They were 14 million under the cap before today - still not a lot of room to manuever. Now with sheard, they have even less money to work with.

Where do you get that 14M isn't a lot of room??
I'll go with what Miguel mentioned over anyone else..

What was he making? He is no world beater, but he damn sure would seem an upgrade to hoomafail.

It's not just 14 million. They have to spend a ton of cash (front-load) and have few obligations going forward. The Pats have room for a lot of moves between now and September.

I'd make chandler replace Hooman. Wright is our 2nd best receiving TE behind Gronk
Yep. Chandler would be the clear #2TE (receiving and blocking) and push Wright down to a TE3/WR5 or Hooman down to an awkward TE3/FB2 position. We just resigned Develin, so Hooman is gone.

He'll be 30 by the time the season starts, but I'm all for it. Although, I have always been satisfied with the talent level of the TEs Belichick has drafted.

between him, housler and some other names, we should improve the TE position on the free agency, this draft class is weak and that would save us a pick to use in lineman or rb.

Chandler is not a blocking tight end. Don't know where that is coming from. He's a bigger, older Tim Wright. Split out wide a lot.

Cutting him saves the Bills $2.25 in cap space, which apparently they need for going after Charles Clay.

Despite the fact he doesn't really replace/upgrade Hooman I think the Pats try to sign him, as he will probably be cheap, is a Pats kiler, and won't effect compensatory picks as he was a cut.

Bill has always shown an affinity for players who do well against the Pats. At under $2MM, I think he'd be an excellent pick up

He made almost 5 million last season - that's why I'm a bit cautious about bringing him on board. People on this board want us to sign knighton, culliver, etc. and now chandler? There simply doesn't seem to be enough cap space.

They could sign all of those if they wanted.

AAV =! Cap hit.

Could easily sign Knighton @ 8/yr (which is more than he'll receive), Culliver @ 6/yr, Chandler @ 3/yr and have it only count for a few mil against the cap.

Someone get me his address cos ima gonna help him pack and drive him to foxboro.

I'm all for this even if its just to lock him in the same room as Bernard Pollard, Chandler is up on the list of "guys im REALLLLLLY tired of".

He just caught another first down on 3rd and long...

Sign this dude already FFS!

I always said that it'd just be worth it to sign Pollard, bench him, and play with a 52 man roster, but apparently Belichick just didn't agree with me.

Actually, they don't have to spend a ton of cash to meet the 89%. This is an example of the media misconstruing reality to hype a story to make it seem like the Patriots aren't handling the cap money properly..

Does anyone know what happened to Tim Wright? He looked good early in the season then seemed to get no playing time.

Maybe he breaks out next season as our #2 TE.

He could break out with a full season + offseason in the system, or he could just be a 5th receiving option, which is most likely what he is.

What happened to him is that he wasn't Gronk, Edelman, LaFell, Vereen, or Amendola. Brady had 5 guys that he trusted to be where they were supposed to be, and all 5 were more talented than Wright. It's not a knock on Wright, just that he was probably #6.

Vereen is gone and Amendola's current contract is a lot to imagine carrying as-is.

Tyms' got some play time over Wright simply because filled a much different role, a deep threat, where Wright is more of a short to intermediate guy, which is what Vereen, Edelman and Amendola primarily are and something LaFell and Gronk can also do very well when needed.

Wright lost the numbers game, being new, and not quite as good.

the pats no only have enough cap space to get knighton, culliver, chandler, and sign rookies, they have the ability to make more space through extending solder and turning some roster bonuses into signing bonuses....I also see the mayo number as a temporary placeholder. based on the rest of the offseason, he will not be kept for that number once he is healthy

I like this. No idea why Rex would get rid of a Patriot killer TE, though.

I'm not convinced that Rex is even aware that he has an offense.
