Sign the Beast XXXIV: Pats one of three teams interested in Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton

How many Patriot off seasons have you been a part of?

Surely too many to think there's a snowballs chance in hell of Belichick paying Pot Roast.

Who knows what could happen?

...and don't call me Shirley. :D

Ellis is a backup with 1 career sack, Knighton is a run stuffer who can also push the pocket far better than Ellis.

And Ellis will most probably be 70% cheaper than Knighton. It is all about projecting players, Ellis was stuck in a backup role on a loaded DL but has flashed imho. Now can he do it consistently ? I don't know. But what I do know is that the Patriots very, very rarely buy high and despite how much I'd like Pot Roast to be here I doubt that we will spend most of our budget on a single player.

Not to mention the opportunity to win a ring

Could have stayed in Denver if this was very important for him.

Given how he's apparently rejected every offer he's received as some variation of "insultingly low, GTFO", it's looking like he has his self-perceived value pegged a lot higher than eveyone else. If that's the case, I think I would rather someone else overpaid for him.

I can't believe you guys still do this to yourselves.

Not. Gonna. Happen

They will not pay Pot Roast....and stop calling me Surely:p

I think he definitely would be a good fit, but obviously the money issue is a huge factor. I'm hoping we start hearing about signings soon.

I might be crazy, but I think Siliga might be as good of an option to replace Wilfork's run-stopping presence as a high draft pick or expensive FA, all things considered. Some veteran depth signings like Branch would be nice, but this is a guy who was insulted by a $6M/year offer. I think for the DT position, the real need is a lighter, penetrating type. It should come down to Easley's progression. The real investments should be at OG, CB, and SS (Chung could very easily get exposed without Revis).
I agree here. Re-sign Branch to pair up with Siliga and hope like heck that Easley can play to his physical skill level and provide what will likely be much needed pass rush. Maybe draft someone like Marcus Hardison/Deon Simon/Derrick Lott/Leterius Walton and include either in the DT mix?

Not sure who of Jones or Nink sits if a prominent DE is brought in via free agency?

Like you I am very worried that Chung will now be exposed in this suspect secondary. BB seems to love to draft safeties so why not yet again .......

Is there not some incentive for the Patriots to hold off on signing too many FA's, or at least expensive FA's, in the hopes of getting more compensatory picks? (Or am I blowing up the significance of that).

And one thing I've learned from reading this board is, you have to save some money to sign the draft picks too!

Knighton + Wilfork returning on a reduced deal. Who would be foolhardy enough to run into the teeth of that defense?? And then with DL needs addressed, we can go hard after a couple of CBs in the draft. I expect BB to double-dip.

Hopefully the Potroast would take less to win although it doesn't sound like it. It'd be amazing if we could bring back Vince get Potroast and get one quality corner (Keenan Lewis?).

Temper enthusiasm for best case acquisitions. The Patriots are smart enough to make things work and while it's nice to see a Wilfork - Knighton tandem, one makes the other a redundant signing. Opportunity cost and all that jazz.

They'd never sign him giving the stigma that is with him now plus not sure Hardy is the kind of guy that is looking to have to win a starting job.

Our run defense would improve dramatically with knighton.

Any rumors/reports on what kind of money he's asking for?

I'd love to have Pork Chop on the roster, but his demands need to come down.

Not gonna lie, I want Knighton on the team real bad. Envisioning Knighton and a resigned Wilfork, Jones and Sheard, Mayo Collins and Hightower up front. That group would be hard as hell to run on, could cover decently AND could smack your QB in the mouth.
