Opens the door to a great nickname for the defense: Jabaal's cabal.

This should cheer me up a little! I'm sick of my parades getting rained on!

Patriots sign DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard (2 years, $11M; $5.5M guaranteed): A Grade
The Patriots lost Darrelle Revis because the Jets overpaid for him. No worries. New England just signed a talented edge player at a very cheap price to help compensate for the Revis departure.

Sheard was ranked in the top 40 of my Top NFL Free Agent Rankings list, so getting him for just $11 million over two years and $5.5 million guaranteed is such incredible value. Sheard didn't have his best year in 2014, but that's because his skills aren't particularly suited to playing the 3-4. Not that he struggled in that scheme, but he would've been so much more effective had he remained in the 4-3. Sheard will be much better in New England, serving as both a decent pass-rusher and a stout run-defender.

Linebackers are beasts on our team, let's get some D line now.
We can address secondary in the draft I don't want any defensivebacks in fee agency all jags let's draft the Jones kid.
The concern on CB is that what the team has currently does not have a lot of seasoning or a track record of consistent success defending outside the numbers. Butler, Ryan and Arrington specifically. It doesn't mean that they can't (well...Arrington is known and Ryan doesn't have the speed). It just means there is a question mark there.

Bringing in a vet CB is something BB has done multiple times in the past and based on the Browner & Revis departures, it would not surprise me to see him do a 1- or 2yr deal with a vet AND draft a CB.

Unless Mayo is going to be cut, there really isnt a spot for Ayers that I think he would be willing to accept.
He would be 4th in the DE rotation and 4th in the LB rotation that only has 3 playing 25% of the snaps.
He wouldn't get 10 snaps a game.

You're right absolutely but was hoping Sheard would be used as (finally) a back up/half-starter to spell Ninko and Jones so they aren't so damned gassed in the 4th. Maybe try to use Ninko as the 2 down DE and have Sheard as 3rd and 4th. But his versatility is what his true value is.

Then Ayers could rotate in the now core of Hightower/Collins/Mayo.....I count on injuries and Ayers paid BIG TIME when we needed it. The guy was just disruptive and athletic on the level Collins is....IDK the days of Monty Beisel scare me into thinking you can never have too many quality LBs on your team.

We just need the depth there now that we are so thin on the back-end.....irony and our roster go hand in hand don't they

Love the signing. Another good piece to an already strong front seven (minus Wilfork...for now).

Another Mike Lombardi connection!!!!!

Thx for vid.

Impressed by how often he had his hands on / knocking away the ball in his sacks ~50%. That said, he had about 0% awareness after knocking the ball loose (too busy strutting to even notice his teammates fighting for ball 1yard away).

That one arm takedown of rape-less-bitte was pretty awesome show of strength too.

Hopefully bb will fix some of those issues and the hand technique stuff the other posters mentioned (and cut his hair, .... just kidding -sort of).

Good signing. (Guess I don't have to ask if he can rush the qb)

Makes sense. BB has been on a bit of a FA tear recently.
I think Tyms and THE Malcolm Butler were Lombardi guys last year. Not sure who else.

I like the Sheard signing. He was a player who intrigued me when he first came out in the draft. It will be good to have a situational pass-rusher who could give some rest to Chandler Jones/Ninkovich who were kind of overused last year at around 95% of the DE snaps.
