Interesting LB who made the transition from college DE to pro LB. Same height and weight as Ninkovich. Early 2nd rounder to Cleveland. Looks like a pass rushing OLB. I hope Sheard can drop into coverage and cover somebody.

Tough to judge anybody that played in Cleveland the last few years with the chaos there. Interesting pickup.

Linebackers are beasts on our team, let's get some D line now.
We can address secondary in the draft I don't want any defensivebacks in fee agency all jags let's draft the Jones kid.

So gets paid 4M & 7M for 2015 and 2016 if i read this right.

1 year deal with a chance to extend if it works out looks like.

Hope we do something for DT, CB, OG, WR

So the projection of the board is that this guy is going to play DE, or linebacker?

Looks like 6/5 to me.

$4mm up front, $1mm salary in year one with a $1mm roster bonus. $4mm salary with a $1mm roster bonus in year two.

nice signing hope he can bring what he did his first two seasons

I actually hope they still bring Ayers back too but I am really happy about this signing....Sheard was underutilized in Cleveland and I think will flourish into a 10+ sack backer/tweener and plays well against the run

This is your 2015 version of La Fell right here folks......low key and BIG dividends
Unless Mayo is going to be cut, there really isnt a spot for Ayers that I think he would be willing to accept.
He would be 4th in the DE rotation and 4th in the LB rotation that only has 3 playing 25% of the snaps.
He wouldn't get 10 snaps a game.

The 4 mill upfront is split between the 2 years.

Well, I do think he's better than Ayers.

Yes!!!! We signed a player whose stats have declined each year since his rookie year

I watched two games on him this morning to see get some kind of sense of him as I haven't watched a lot of Browns games. What I saw was a DE that is very strong against the run. He did a great job of keeping his shoulders squared with the line of scrimmage. Didn't get pushed back.

He did get some pressure on pass rushes, especially when he looped to the inside. His loop is really quick. But he struggled some in regular pass rushes. Mostly because he don't use his hands that much. He lets OTs get their hands on his chest, and that can be the death penalty for DL, you can't let them get a good grip. But he did get some good pressure from time to time.

But he is a very strong and pretty athletic DE that's right in BBs mold because he can actually play the run with great discipline, move around to different positions, and get good pass rush. I think he can be really good if he improves his hand technique.

This guy is a 3 down player with some versatility I hear but I can't say I saw him play much other then LDE for the Browns.
Could be inside on 3rd downs with Easley.

Any projections from you guys on who the front 7 (or 6 in nickel) is against a 2 TE or 3 WR package?

This is a really strong signing that's going to make us stronger at a position that's been a bit thin. Will allow Ninko to play less reps which will keep him fresh.

I see. I thought the first 4 was spread over 2 years.

I love this. With the return of Mayo and assuming we get Vince back and/or Pot Roast or Fairley this gives us an improved front 7 which should help mask the secondary.

Cap wise that's 4/7. Signing bonus gets divided by the number of seasons equally on every year on the cap.

Wasn't talking cap, but worth noting.
